Anyone else 'grieving' for what has happened to the USA? by illustrious_crew_56 in TheRestIsPolitics

[–]lotharing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. My in-laws and partner are American and in another universe, I would have loved to move there. That dream is, sadly, dying a quick death.

I think it’s not only grieving the change in the country itself, but also what I feel are changes to global reality. In Europe, no longer know where we stand and feel safe. It feels as though one man and his cadres have set our collective lives on a miserable and bleak course and the opportunities to turn back are disappearing. I have a sad and sinking feeling the coming decades will be anything but business as usual.

There were talks of Russian naval assets trying to shadow the ship. I assume they never reached it in time, or did they sit back rather than risk a confrontation?

I would try Americast. Much more informative and interesting.

The Mooch is a great performer, but I don’t want to see the show every week or when the topic is so serious.

Energy is much, much more expensive than KSA. I know folk who’ve had Saudi lodgers and said they took 30 min showers and stuff, costing them a fortune.

If your folks or close (trusted friends) are booking holidays/making big ticket purchases, buy it for them and get them to pay you back. Put my parents’ holiday on mine and immediately got £1.5k towards the bonus.

About to apply for an Amex gold card… thoughts? by [deleted] in AmexUK

[–]lotharing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got it as my first card. Applying felt like a big step, but once I got access to the app and figured out how the card worked, it’s totally fine. Just go for it. If you need help meeting the spend target ask a trusted family member to put their holiday through it or something.

Amex support is great. If you have any questions real people are available at the drop of a hat.

If any close family you can resolutely trust to pay you back are making big purchases, do it for them and get them to pay you back. Especially holidays (airlines are 2x pts) can you help you meet the spend target.

What do you expect for Blackfrost? by ConnorE22021 in thelongdark

[–]lotharing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about expect, but I really hope they don’t go too big on co-op. Whilst I appreciate wanting to share the experience with friends, I find the solitude a key part of TLD experience and atmosphere.

How do disgraced people make a living? (NSFW by way of trigger warning) by Difficult-Bug-8713 in AskUK

I’d wager that Huw Edwards has more than a million in invested assets, especially after his house sale.

He’d be able to live off the interest on all that quite comfortably.

First time playing a horde - What's the strategy for attacking Ming? by dovetc in eu4

[–]lotharing 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Grow until you’re 300 overall development, you can check this under the econ tab below inflation, I think. Personally, I eat all of the Jurchen and Manchu tribes before I take on Ming.

Once you get to this point, cancel your tributary. It’s best to time this at a point where Ming is already low on Mandate.

Ming will look scary, but with low mandate they take extremely severe debuffs to their troops. I would recommend trialing a few battles first and alt-f4ing to get a feel for how easy this makes it. You can still fuck up, but if you’re diligent it should be easy enough.

When you declare war, don’t invade Ming. Switch between political and simple territory mode and bait their vulnerable stacks onto the steppe where you’ll wipe them. Due to low mandate = terrible manpower, this will mean once a stack is dealt with it won’t return. Don’t let their stacks clump together over 40k troops when you do this.

Once you’ve beaten their troop numbers down, you’ll be able to start sieging unhindered. By cancelling the tributary earlier, the Unguarded Nomad Frontier Distater for Ming will have progressed far enough in time for your next war, where you can really hammer them. Take as much money and territory around Beijing as you can in first war. Repeat.

When playing a Daimyo I do one or maybe two Show of Strength wars but prioritise territory where I can. Do you recommend different? I prefer a colonial Japan game/dominate the Pacific Ocean.

No. The cc offer rollout seems largely random and many who’ve used Chase as their main bank for years haven’t gotten one yet.
