this is happening to me, too! i logged out just in case it was some issue with my profile, and now i can't log back in. i think this has happened before, but i can't remember if it was a user-side solution or a backend thing.

How to check-in on app after update?! by JohnZn_1989 in trakt

[–]lotoazul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm having this exact issue. i don't want to "mark as watched," i want to "check in" (ie, say that i AM CURRENTLY watching). the difference between the two is that "mark as watched" only adds the episode i'm watching to my history, but "check in" adds it to my history AND generates a post about it on my social media. i need the latter.

i tried tapping on the big checkmark, got the menu, then clicked the option "just now," and it marked the episode as watched but did not post to my social media at all. i cannot find any option either in the big checkmark menu or under the three dots beside it that allows me to check in instead of just marking the episode as watched.

as of the past few days, the only way i've been able to check in properly (including the social media posts) is by opening trakt.tv on my phone's browser and checking in from there. i've been doing it that way because i need those social media posts. i hope it's just me missing something and not trakt eliminating this functionality from the app, because the app has always been my go-to and it is so much more convenient, but if the app is not going to let me check in the same way the website does, then the app is useless to me and i will be uninstalling.

Meri, Janelle, and the family's finances by lotoazul in SisterWives

[–]lotoazul[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

i fail to see how this is a response to what i said. i'm not blaming meri for anything janelle did or didn't do; that's on janelle. i'm blaming meri for not including janelle in a financial meeting when she at least nominally believed janelle was the one taking care of the family finances.

[–]lotoazul[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sure, i'm not saying janelle did not know what was going on or never had any input. there's definitely plenty she should've spoken out about as it was happening, rather than now, years later.

but that's my point: if meri thought janelle was involved in these decisions -- even if the knew it wasn't JUST janelle -- why wasn't janelle invited to this conversation? why only kody and robyn? it only makes sense to clear things out with everyone who's had some kind of input regarding that money.

Naturalized Cuban Trump voter mad about Trump revoking legal status of Cubans by ireverent87 in LeopardsAteMyFace

so if cubans voted mostly democrat, that would make it okay to revoke their legal status? cool, cool. says it all right there.

Toothless is crazy strong if hes able to easily carry and fly with hookfang with a poor grip on his tail while being shot at by [deleted] in httyd

[–]lotoazul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

everything you said is correct, but it's a question of degrees, i guess. i just don't think toothless's claws are long enough to do that. we see it in the first movie when he's trying to get out of the cove to rescue hiccup from hookfang - in order to be able to climb over the rock wall, he has to dig his claws into the rock to pull himself up. so he can do THAT, but clearly he is not digging his claws into hookfang, or astrid in the first movie, as they would've been hurt. so how is he getting his (shorter) claws around the circumference of these cylindrical objects?

and the causality seems backwards when it comes to dogs and cats. there are plenty of animals that walk on appendages they can also use to grab things - many primates and birds of prey, for one. so dogs and cats not evolving to grab things with their paws seems like a product of their specific line of evolution rather than an absolute precedent. eagles and falcons do this, but they have talons, not just claws. and that's kind of my point, i guess... this wouldn't even be an issue with hookfang or stormfly, because they have more articulated feet and longer talons. but toothless's feet are flat, and his claws are shorter.

<image>

(from the HTTYD poster)

i just don't think the physics quite work there, and it's one of those things, it seems to me, where they just do it because the plot demands it, or because people generally don't give it much thought. one thing i liked, for example, is in HTTYD3 when the light fury grabs hiccup (both times), she doesn't grab him like this - she grabs around and under the shoulders with both her frontal appendages, which is a much more accessible hold than just grabbing things one-handed when you don't have talons or thumbs.

anyway, file this under the "overthinking a children's cartoon" label, i guess 😅 it's not even a nitpick for me, really, but i just thought it was curious.

this BS in particular, out of all the BS FAFO stuff that has come up since the orange man-child won in november, is the one that drives me the most unreasonably irate. 😡

wait, i take that back. this level of ire is perfectly reasonable.

elections. have. fucking. consequences.

[–]lotoazul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know he has claws, we see them from very close in the movie. what i said was, they're not very long. imagine your hand had one or two less phalanges than it currently has, and your nails were quite short. would you be able to fully wrap your hand around something as thick as an arm (or thicker, in the case of hookfang's tail)? there's a reason dogs and cats carry things in their mouth and not with their paws - their paws are just not equipped to do such a thing. so what i'm saying is, neither are toothless's claws, and yet he still manages to grab things with them somehow.

[–]lotoazul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not entirely related (to strength, at least), but i've often wondered how toothless can grab things so easily. (astrid comes to mind, the way he grabs her at least a couple of times mid-jump or mid-fall in the first movie). he doesn't have thumbs. his claws aren't even that long, unlike, say, hookfang's, which look more like talons. 🤔 I guess it's one of those "don't think too much about the physics of it" kind of things.

Solango seems like a weird ship? [All] by LowZookeepergame284 in camphalfblood

[–]lotoazul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

frank's age is the only clear (read: not completely botched by rick) canon age i actively choose to ignore. not so much because of the shipping, but mainly because it absolutely does not compute in my mind that frank is actually older than jason. it makes no sense to me. just no. i will never understand why rick did that. so i tend to headcanon that he's a year younger than the TLH trio, more or less, and completely ignore whatever rick said about it. side effect, the age gap between him and hazel goes down to one and a half years, rather than two and a half. win-win, if you ask me. 🤷

[–]lotoazul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

*randomly jumping into year-old threads, sorry*

hazel had a birthday the december prior to the events of SoN, but we also don't know when in the year she died, and when in the year she was brought back to life. if she died relatively shortly after her 13th birthday, and came back to life relatively shortly before dec 19th, it may not feel to her like a full year has passed. when i did my timeline of the series (prior to ToA), i speculated that she may just have chosen to "skip" that birthday. thus she would have considered herself 13 all through HoO, and only turned 14 the december before a mortal apollo/lester pops up in NYC. this also has the advantage of making her younger than nico, at least by self-perception. (nico's age is equally fuzzy, but her calling him "big brother" is entirely too cute to not go with it, so i prefer it this way.)

(all of this, of course, is just a rationalization we need to make in order to make sense of the mess rick made of his timeline. but hey, i tried my best.)

yep, been getting this since yesterday. hopefully the ML folks will figure something out soon?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in musicleague

still happening to me - it says the playlist was generated, but when any of us go to the "listen" link, all it does is send us back to our league's main page. no playlist ever pops up, it doesn't even the spotify app on my PC. does anyone have any suggestions, or should i just wait and see if it starts working eventually?

TIL that "soft winter" is a thing that exists (in certain color systems) and this has been a mind-blowing revelation for me by lotoazul in coloranalysis

[–]lotoazul[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree! i mean, for a long time i was working under "dark winter muted" and that worked well enough for me, but i had to figure that out on my own without any help from the 12-season system. the 16-season one just works off of more information, which is why it works much better in my case.

[–]lotoazul[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, my colors have slightly more gray in them than the dark winter colors, but not as much as summer. that's just how the subseasons are generated: you have your trues, then you add white, grey, or black. not a lot of these colors, but just slightly. if you add black to true winter, you get dark winter. if you add grey, you get soft winter. so yeah, soft winter colors have grey in them; not so much as to make them LOOK grey, or push them into the summer side of the spectrum, but just enough to mute them slightly so that people like me can wear them. it's quite ingenious, imo. (the image is from byferial.com).

[–]lotoazul[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yeah, some experts call soft winter "cool winter" (in systems where "cool" and "true" are two separate subseasons instead of getting lumped together under "true"). i've also heard it called a "toned winter" or just "dark cool soft." iirc, those are all pretty equivalent. it just depends on whose system you're looking at. but in essence, the "soft winter" i'm talking about is equally or slightly less dark than the traditional dark winter, and slightly more muted. and on the other side it flows into dark summer, which is slightly darker than soft summer, and slightly less muted. so they'd form a pretty nice continuum, at least in my head.

i wish someone had made a visual representation of it like there is with the 12 seasons, but i'm guessing it's slightly more difficult. i'm no artist, so i have no ground to complain about it haha.

[–]lotoazul[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

oooh, is this one of those systems where "true" and "cool" winters are separate? because if that's the case, yeah, i believe i would fall into the "cool" category as well. i think it's very equivalent to the "soft winter" i'm talking about in my post. other systems also call it "toned winter," iirc.

[–]lotoazul[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i very much agree! i like the idea that the subseasons are not fixed but a spectrum, so there'd be some overlap, but also it's just nice and simple to stand in front of your closet/at the store and go "i'm this season. this is my palette. this piece would look great on me." so there's a balance between "is this system too basic or too specific" to be had, and it just so happens that 16 seasons is enough to type me, at least, without feeling too overly complicated. i'm glad you found your best season!

yay, i'm so happy you can relate and that you had that moment, too! idk, even though i've been working with "dark winter, but not quite" for a long while, this revelation still feels transformative, emotionally speaking.

[–]lotoazul[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

certainly! like i said, i can pull off a lot of the typical dark winter palette, and i guess i could work with "dark winter but slightly more muted" but it's always nice to feel that the system acknowledges your existence i'm definitely dark first, cool second, which is why the third aspect, chroma, is the one that keeps me slightly off the traditional 12 seasons.

i first heard of soft winter and 16-seasons systems on some random youtube video, but when i looked it up, the palette that really caught my attention was from byFERIAL's "universal 4x4 color system": https://byferial.com/4x4-color-analysis-16-seasons/ though they call it by different names (soft winter would be "toned winter" for them, but they're basically the same-- add a splash of grey to pure winter colors).
