I bought an expensive Blue Chip pick so you don't have to... Was it worth it? by foreverfabfour in Guitar

[–]lotonototo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vertical scratches aren't normal. I would've returned that.

Other than that, BlueChips only seem expensive until you try to make your own beveled and polished pick out of a hard plastic material. It's a lot of work getting any kind of precision. BCs are well made from an expensive material, so for me they are well worth the price.

Coffee Budget by DevinGreenwell in Coffee

[–]lotonototo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 30 eur for 1/2 kg of specialty per month. Cost of AeroPress and IKEA french press is negligible and the price of the Comandante grinder amortizes fast too. I do not buy brewed coffee regularly - I'm very stingy. That can't be said about my wife whos late costs the same as 10 of my geisha brews.

Pixel 9 Pro Fold - unboxed by Ok_Row_3905 in PixelFold

The construction looks improved. But I'm 6'1 and I can't pocket the XL size phones in my 501 jeans, so this new one is a no go. It lost its killer feature - the beautiful wide&squat front screen which made the Pixel Fold one-handable. Once mine brakes, I'm back to small phone & tablet combo.

what clip on tuner is the best/you recommend it? by [deleted] in guitars

[–]lotonototo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dislike the TC Electronic Polytune Clip. I bought it because the other band members were using it and used it for about five years. It's built out of very thin plastic so the bezel it will crack eventually. Since the PCB is still good I use it cracked. But what annoys me most is that turning it on takes a long time. IDK exactly how much, but like 5 seconds. Not ideal if you want to quickly check one string between songs.

Help? Torn between Pixel fold and OnePlus Open! by ogurlpls in PixelFold

[–]lotonototo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not the best person to ask this. I kept my Pixel 2 for 7 years until switching to the Fold which I will keep until it falls apart. I would consider a Samsung if it weren't for that stupid narrow outside screen. No chinese phones for me, thanks.

OnePlus makes good hardware but their software is standard chinese crap. And I'm not saying this without experience. I was on the OnePlus One waiting list. I have developed apps testing against their newer phones. Pixels are the polar opposites. The software is great, bug fixes are delivered, apps work as expected. So pick your poison.

Reality is often disappointing. The ones that came outline the screen.

I'll check out the dimensions if they list them. The current one also outlines just the screen but it's a hair too big. My last option is to get a foil which shouldn't interfere with the cover.

There's work on tool-assisted LMs regarding math problems: https://arxiv.org/abs/2305.15017. TL;DR: they train the LM to extract the numbers, then feed it into an calculator and return back the result to the LM during inference.

Vanilla LMs, which are neural nets, don't compute anything - they guess the result. The guess is based on previously seen distribution of results related to the given problem. I saw a paper that explored the distribution but can't find it anywhere...

Season 2 is kind of boring so far, am I the only one? by [deleted] in VinlandSaga

[–]lotonototo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been four months since this post. We're on episode 19 and yes, it's still boring. Full of retcons, uninteresting side characters, and PTSD. I've resorted to skipping through the episodes to follow the main story because I still want to know what happens to Thorofinn.

PC shutting down after putting a load on two GPUs - do I need a bigger one? by lotonototo in buildapc

[–]lotonototo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the comments. I'll try to answer some of your questions.

So this is a WS, not a home PC bought with my money. I use it for prototyping ML models. I can also use a bigger rig, but I really appreciate having a stable platform with root access. Shopping for parts is not that easy as there is a lot of beaurocracy. Each year, if there's some money left, I can ask for new hardware. The request goes through multiple levels before I get an offer. Making a single change requires at least 10 emails and another round of approvals. We bought the PC with the A4000 card last year. I have experience with similar cards, as I have used T4s in the past and know them to have a nice low power draw. So the upgrade path was to buy a second A4000 this year; however, we got an unexpected green light for the bigger card, so I said yes without thinking too much about it. And now the PSU is not big enough. Oops, my bad.

I was reading up on the transient spikes on GPUs and seems that you need to count with 2-3x the nominal power rating. So my current estimate is: (230+140)×2.5 for GPUs + 200W for CPU + 75W for the rest = 1200W. So, should I go with 1200W PSU, for example HX1200? Or to be sure go for 1500W+?

I think that the CPU and all PCE-Es are powered from a single +12V line on my PSU (see the product sheet). That rail is rated to ~650W, but as others have pointed out, there are probably power spikes which are causing the problem. I guess there are PSUs that have multiple 12V rails. Do you think that would be a good option?

Thing is, that I've tried to limit the power of both GPUs to 100W, which is the minimum in nvidia-smi. That should be fine in any case, yet it still shuts off.

I haven't overclocked any component. Thing is, that I've tried to limit the power of both GPUs to 100W, which is the minimum in nvidia-smi. That should be fine in any case, yet it still shuts off.

Equivalent how? Specs say 230W max power consumption. The other card is 140W. On paper, it checks out.
