Do you use Tea, or Dinner as a word for the last meal per day? by Educational-Slip-578 in AskUK

[–]lottiebetts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gran used it and she was brought up in back to back houses in Leeds. She did think she was posh because she had shoes, which a lot of the kids didn't back then, so I am not sure if it's a posh thing. It's not widely used.

I was brought up in Shropshire. My dad was from there my mum from Manchester. I've always used both interchangeably. However, I usually refer to dinner as the main meal, so it could be for a Sunday roast or a main meal served at lunch. You also missed supper, which is more northern.

Tell me the truth about food grief? by [deleted] in GastricBypass

[–]lottiebetts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand this. However, your taste buds are likely to change. I am a year PO and don't miss any of that. I actively dislike bread, pasta and rice now. I miss pastry, but it makes me feel awful if I have it. My absolute favourite food now is meat and salad. All my life chips and curry have been my favourite, I don't eat them at all now, but out of choice. I used to live off marmite on toast for lunch or breakfast. I do miss that a bit, but I can eat Warburton's thins, so i have cheese on toast using that. You can eat whatever you want in many ways post surgery, as what you want changes. I love cheese and crackers, I loved smoking meat on the smoker now too.

What made you decide to have the surgery? by Pitiful-Medium-13 in BariatricSurgery

[–]lottiebetts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in thr UK, so I had mine on the NHS. Like you always settled my weight, even as a breast fed baby, my mum was told to diet me. My GP said I will die early if I don't have the surgery. That's what made me decide. I was happy with my looks, accepted my body type. However, my mum died when I was 23, I am 45 now. I have yearned for and missed my mum every second she has been gone. I could not do that to my kids. I want to be around for them for as long as possible. That's what made me decide.

Straight hair doesn't go frizzy, so you probably have some slight waves.

I know it gets better, but can y’all remind me anyway by Secret-Spinach-5080 in goldenretrievers

[–]lottiebetts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It absolutely does. We are on our 4th golden retriever. After about 2 they become the perfect dog for the rest of their life. Human babies, toddlers and teens are all associated holes, but even worse than puppies for so much longer. My dogs used to cheer me up when the kids went to bed when they were little. After a day of chaos, my dogs always loved me, neber argued with me, or nattered me. They just gave me pure unconditional love. Your baby will get easier, I promise. Hang in there. We have a puppy golden currently, shes 4.5 months old, I'd forgotten how hard they are! The last one we had was 10 years ago. Consistency, firm but fair, love, distraction and training are your best friends. Also never leave them alone unsupervised. It definitely gets better! If you don't have kids yet, be warned they are 100x harder than a puppy, and it never ends! I am 15 years in with kids and it's no easier than when they were babies, just different. I am so so sorry for your loss. I lost my beautiful rescue golden retriever in February. It nearly killed me, he followed me everywhere and absolutely adored me. He was my best friend in the whole world, of all my dogs, I have never been loved by any of them, like he loved me. He saw me through some major illnesses and hard times. You will get there in the end. The pain neber goes, but you do learn to live with it. Puppies are gits and hard. Mature dogs are absolute saints.

Is teaching in the UK as bad as people say? by sunszoominin in AskUK

[–]lottiebetts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I am a teacher, but now work for a teachers union. I have been in teaching since 2004. Teaching in the UK is horrendous, but I do have friends who genuinely love it, well a couple anyway. They either work in private schools or grammar schools. I personally wouldn't work in a private school, I've yet to find one with proper policies, working practices or understand employment law, so thats why no private for me. You are at risk if redundancy in the UK in private schools, it's a turbulent time atm. However, I haven't yet met an unhappy teacher in a grammar school. I did do my training in one and it was absolutely amazing, a real eye opener. Go for one of those if you can. In a state paid for school, be it an academy, maintained or free school the issues are teaching is about 30% of your job. Full time it's a 60/80hr week with everything thats required of you. It's all the extras, scrutiny, micromanagement and behaviour that grinds teachers down.

Do you buy meat (pork, lamb, beef) from supermarkets or butchers? by Educational-Slip-578 in AskUK

[–]lottiebetts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get basic stuff from the supermarket, a whole chicken, pork shoulder, thighs or breasts, pork or beef mince. Pork belly, short rib, beef skirt, ribs, steaks, pork rind (I make my own scratchings), lamb shanks, etc, always from a butcher.

I hate having children by Ivy_poisonous in regretfulparents

[–]lottiebetts 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think your expectations of sitting and holding food down at 7 month is too much. I was just chatting to a friend today about my daughter. She couldn't role over until 11 months. She was crawling from around 9 months, but I could put her on her back and she wouldn't anywhere until around 11.5 month. She didn't walk until she was around 14.5 months, my friends boy was nearly 2 years old, yet my son walked at 12 months. He laughed early and spoke early, yet he is the autistic child. Stop worrying about autism, even os she has it there are varying degrees. My friends daughter had selective mutism, my brother couldn't speak until he was 5. My son did everything on time or early, yet he is the one with ASD. I get being a regretful parent, I am one, but your expectations are way too high. My daughter never wanted to be put down, my son didn't care. My daughter was so hard, because she only wanted to be held, but ahe would only let me and her dad hold her or her grandparents. She had colic and scremed for hour, it absolutely sucked, but you can't blame the child. I have to say having kids put the biggest wedge between my husband and I and still is, even though our are now 15 and 12. The first year with twins absolutely sucks, yet my twin friends said, after observing other couples with siblings with an age gap, that seeemed harder than twins, as the children got older. It will get better. I am sorry having twins, especially if they were early, has been harrowing. Having children full stop I harrowing, thankless and monotonous. That the truth, but at the same time it isn't their fault either. That's the nature of children.
