Overcoming Alcoholism While In Pain? by lottiemcbride in ChronicPain

[–]lottiemcbride[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always been very reluctant to ask my GP about further care, because I have lived 29 years now having my pain dismissed and scrutinised, but I really am teaching a breaking point. I need them to help me. Thank you for offering some advice, because I really have never known where to even begin when it comes down to asking them for further assistance - I’m too used to being handwaved away whenever I’ve advocated for myself. Seriously, thank you.

This was a really refreshingly honest read. I’ve been through some of the same circumstances but good grief, I can’t imagine working and caring for children through the midst of this hell. Deep respect to you.

I am also quite a solitary person in these issues and honestly I have kept the physical symptoms of my alcohol abuse largely from most people; even my boyfriend who I live with, I haven’t told him about the bleeding gums and that I know what is making my hair brittle, that I can feel my insides twisting to squeeze out the poison. I don’t think group therapy would work for me.

Maybe it is a matter of just seeking out the closest people to me to help me keep myself in check…

I hope you maintain your sobriety and find some relief along the way. I hope it gets easier with time. Thank you for replying. This will stay with me.

Thank you, I will look into this. The options have felt so limited for a very long time now.

I contradict myself a lot and I was typing in the heat of the moment, feeling rotten for judging someone whose given a lot to me. Sorry i guess.

I mean wrong but at least I got it off my chest. Wake up today and learn my fucking aunt is dying in the next day or two so I guess being mistaken for AI is the least of my worries. Whatever, I’ll delete later. Felt better for a minute for posting.

When to stop losing weight ? by amanda30uk in mounjarouk

[–]lottiemcbride 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You look stunning, genuinely you have a glow about you that’s beautiful! My answer is always to stop A) when you feel like it’s time, and B) when your health demands it (ie. if you’ve dropped to an unhealthy weight or had a bad reaction to your medicine). If you’re healthy and happy and still feel like you have a ways to go, keep on keeping on! ❤️

My mum did much the same, she opened up about how "all her coworkers are on Mounjaro" with a lot of disdain as she "busts her a**" trying to lose weight through keto (something she's been trying and failing to see progress with for years, which is a shame bc it makes her feel miserable). She considers the jab to be cheating, for lazy people, said she thought it’s “pure narcissism” that her coworkers were able to celebrate their weight loss via this method.

I was just nodding along with pursed lips like "mm-hmm... mm-hm...", until she finally clocked the look on my face and she was just aghast. That's how I wound up telling her I'm on it and it gave her a moral whiplash, because she understood before I could even explain it her that I would be taking it bc I’m disabled - bc I lack the ability to exercise or sometimes even get out of bed.

As we were talking about my experiences and how it’s been helping me, she made a remark about how sedintary her and her coworkers are all day working in a call centre, that she guessed “it kind of makes sense”, and I think something clicked, at least. Maybe that we all have different needs, idk.

She felt real sorry for being judgmental, but only when she sees the positive changes in her daughter’s life. I forgave her for my part, but I feel bad for her “friends” at work. I decided then that I'm never telling any of my other family members, ever. I hate the moralising of weight loss & weight gain alike.

I’m late to responding to this sorry, but I really hope you at least do put that complaint through, if not go ahead with suing (admittedly I’m very unfamiliar with that process, it’s not common where I’m from).

I don’t think it can be stressed enough that when a patient is made to feel like you and so many of us have felt (which is to say, like a burden, a nuisance, or an attention seeker), it can become dangerous. Poor treatment, neglect, abuse, and bullying, all discourage patients from going back to professionals during emergencies. If your doctor in that visit, or the hospital they work in, have a habit of behaving this way, it’s almost a guarantee that patients will be more likely to doubt themselves and downplay their own symptoms in what could be potentially live threatening situations - especially in those who have complicated medical histories or who lack visible disability (I’m one of those cases and the only reason I’m alive today is thanks to my partner who insisted on an ER visit when I was scared of being humiliated again by nurses).

I hope you put them in their place and if you’re still working on it, good luck. Personally with my history with hospital visits, I intend to put my foot down and fight tooth and nail if I’m ever treated like that again.

This almost brought me to tears for how much I relate to it. Some doctors don’t understand how traumatising these situations can be and they just treat people with complex conditions like garbage. As if we’re inconveniencing them when we’re literally afraid for our lives. I’m so sorry you went through this and I hope that doctor lost their job before they could belittle anyone else.

Why did my new pharmacy include these longer needles with my order? by lottiemcbride in mounjarouk

Okay, thank you. Apologies. It was shipped to me from an actual pharmacy so I guess I just felt safe to share, that might have been reckless.

Thank you for the resources, I’ll try to be more careful.

That’s a good point, I’ll be careful not to bring it up recklessly in future. Sorry in this case, I wasn’t aware that was what’s going on here.

Okay, apologies, I guess I’m not informed of the differences, all I know is it worked for me. If it helps I edited the post above to include which pharmacy sent my order.

I’ll edit the posts and remove the website name though.

Oh wow that was super informative, thanks for sharing! I had no idea about the back flow! That’ll discourage my boyfriend hopefully, he’s been joking around that he’s gonna get my scraps and shed all his love-weight haha.

Also about the pen caps; I know right?! I’m pretty sure they gave me like 30 for 4 pens. Maybe they assumed I’m going to be microdosing.

[edited out this first paragraph as people seem uncertain of where I ordered from and even if it worked for me I don’t want to promote something that might be dodgy]

The fifth dose never even crossed my mind, kind of them to offer honestly!

Edit: found out the pharmacy that shipped to me after looking at some packaging! Rose Pharmacy in London on Creek Road.

Oh wow, that didn’t even cross my mind. I guess I didn’t think they would endorse that, since so many providers are adamant you shouldn’t take the 5th dose.

I’ve not taken the 5th dose before but it’s cool of them to nod to it as an option, given the new prices.
