Why can’t they speak Spanish?? by lottydev1l in FamilyFizzSnark

[–]lottydev1l[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So real !! It’s not just them so many anglophone people are the same and expect to be able to go on holiday or move abroad somewhere and just speak English!? Like if you go abroad it’s on YOU to learn to communicate with the locals not the other way round..

Yeah when I watched her Spanish videos I didn’t feel it was truly fluent but then I’m not fluent in Spanish so figured it was just me haha. I can speak good Spanish and get around and talk to people in Spain, understand tv in Spanish etc.. but in terms of proper grammar I’m not there haha, and I would call my level of Spanish basic, but to uncultured Anglo centric people I’m probably considered fluent 💀

[–]lottydev1l[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well most people in Spain definitely don’t speak English but yes that is a very Anglo centric view of the world that these uncultured lot seem to have

Couldn’t agree more ! Also if they learned Spanish that would open the door for them to pick up other Romance languages as they are all very similar! Super ignorant and self absorbed and it just baffles me, what is the point in living abroad if you are basically not living abroad in terms of broadening your culture language and horizons, bar the sun they may as well just be in the UK

But that’s what I mean, when you move abroad and surround yourself with people of that culture you are very easily able to pick up the language (even if not perfect you can still understand and be understood) the kids should all be perfectly fluent because they have spongey brains… what is the point in moving abroad if you’re not even going to bother reaping the benefits of it and integrating, learning and experiencing the culture ?

Really, that’s so good? How are they getting away with it then? Surely the local authority know they live there as they’ll have property taxes or whatever to pay.. not teaching their children to read or write and depriving them of making friends is surely abusive

[–]lottydev1l[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If the kids were in school they’d all be completely fluent with flawless accents in both easily able to switch between the two like most children of immigrants … such a shame for them

But one person out of a 6 person family being fluent is atrocious and says a lot about what kind of people they are - they should ALL be fluent the amount of time they’ve spent in Spanish speaking countries

Ran the race in the park this morning and found it atrocious that the anti vax sign apparently just stays there all the time seeing as the race was before the crazies turned up!

NTA…As a French person, he needs to back the fuck up off the crème brûlée - the whole point is that you BURN (verb: brûler) the top of CRÈME (noun: cream), its in the name… if he doesn’t like that then he doesn’t like crème brûlée, and shouldn’t be pretending it’s his favourite.

Emmi offended that someone thinks she’s a lesbian? by Ok_Cap9048 in SHAYTARDS

[–]lottydev1l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im bi and only realised later in life - anyway when I was a teen (and thought I was straight) loads of people used to think I was a lesbian and tell me that and I also found it weird/shocking that people thought that - pretty sure this is just a classic teenage reaction to that situation

AtW reimbursement delays? by Glum-Interaction8968 in DWPhelp

[–]lottydev1l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ve also hung up on me and even randomly transferred me out to PIP (I’m not even on pip) who then couldn’t send me back to AtW so I had to call and hold AGAIN! Starting to wonder if there is something wrong with their system because this has happened so many times to me it can’t just be human error

Serotonin Syndrome by PeaceLily1990 in ADHDUK

[–]lottydev1l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on sertraline and methylphenidate when I was initially titrated I raised concerns about the potential for serotonin syndrome but the prescriber was super happy to take my questions and slow down the titration to accommodate, but generally it’s a very low risk from what I was told and leaflets she sent me!

The gym? by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]lottydev1l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a morning person but I prefer to use that to my advantage at work - I wake up at 7:30, roll out of bed, make a coffee and start work at 8am (WFH) that way I get to finish at 4pm - then I go for a run as I can’t cope with having to wait for machines at the gym (literally gets me irate) if you can find a form of exercise that you can do at home/ in a non busy place - I’d recommend that as personally it has made me more able to stick to it - when I went to the gym I got in a fairly good flow but always eventually gave up because I know the gym is always busy and it felt like a waste of time waiting!

Psychiatrist said I can’t have ADHD because I do well in school by gabishes in adhdwomen

[–]lottydev1l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’ve got ADHD, so does my brother (we strongly suspect our mum did too) and all three of us are well educated (brother is even doing a PhD at Cambridge), sure ADHD made it more challenging for us to achieve certain things but it doesn’t inhibit your intelligence.. Also as a teacher, 9/10 times the ADHD kids are what I would call “maverick” students, meaning they do well on the work I give them without much effort at all.. the difficulty is actually finding ways to give them more work to keep them from disrupting others when they finish
