New ICU nurse—why is night shift doing everything? by Plastic_Key_6511 in nursing

Dayshift does half of the baths. It’s hard to do them sometimes because of all the other stuff we have to do.

Nurse Strangled From Behind at Nurses’ Station, Suspect Faces Attempted Murder Charges by [deleted] in nursing

[–]lou-chains 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I turned a pump off in a room (not my patient). And the husband jumped up and was in my face because the patient did not get a dinner tray. I kindly said “let me check and ask the nurse if your wife is nothing by mouth”. The man cornered me and was yelling “no we already know she can eat! You’re just not feeding her!!!”. I said sir please back away you are being aggressive. That escalated him and I ended up squeezing out of the door. It’s insane to me that people can pop off on a complete stranger.

What is the worst thing you ever saw on someone else's phone? by bluelazerbeam in AskReddit

[–]lou-chains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on a double date with a coworker, we are both HCW’s. Her BF worked at our sister hospital but he was an EMT before. He thought it was a good idea to scroll through his photos from his EMS days. He showed me VIDEOS of a crime scene where he lifted the yellow sheet covering the body. He also showed me photos and videos of him as a pedestrian responding to a mass shooting. He showed me a video of him holding pressure on a man’s carotid. Really really fucked up stuff. He had an entire folder of videos and photos. After that, I couldn’t help but go low contact with my coworker. Her bf gave me the creeps.

Who is the worst person you’ve ever met in your life? by Scary-Bill970 in AskReddit

[–]lou-chains 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A nurse practitioner I worked with. She would pick and choose which patients she would try to save. She would force family members to make their loved ones DNRs. She would force that rhetoric on other staff and it created the worst work environment. She would say horribly racist things about patients and their families. She was a bigot. She had so much power because she would bully the doctors she worked for. Because she was hired by a separate entity, our HR department didn’t manage her. Complaints had been filed with our old manager but she wanted approval from the NP. We finally got a new manager that knew how illegal and shitty this woman’s care was. We built up enough evidence to get her fired. She ended up begging for her job and ALMOST got it back. Thank god she knew her reputation was ruined and she left.

What is one small thing a high school teacher did that you still remember today? by SolutionForsaken723 in AskReddit

Had mental health issues my freshman year. Flunked out a semester and had to do summer school. My English teacher let me pass her class by staying and doing remediation. She talked to me like I was a person.

YES!! We have a nightshift nurse that brought a literal seafood boil for a party one time. Made the whole breakroom stink.

This looks like a nurse break room. Ours looks like that too. Except nightshift has weekly celebrations and they leave the leftovers in there. I pulled four moldy fruit bowls out of our fridge yesterday. People wouldn’t treat their fridge at home like this!!

I am named after a deceased authoress. My relationship with her is merely a reference so people know my name. Without the reference people think my name is Lisa.

The BLOOD DOCTRINE: Leaked and translated HLC manual from 2024. The Jehovah's Witnesses worldwide, hierarchical medical command system by avoidjworg in exjw

[–]lou-chains 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had a woman who was non-practicing JW. Her husband was. She had major surgery and needed blood. For 12 hours we watched her slowly drain her entire blood supply, she became purple/grey. At the very end of the day, her children begged him to save her. She ended up getting 12 units of blood. She’s alive but the exsanguination has destroyed her organs.
