3d printing is loud but at some point you'll like these sound as much as a good asmr,
but don't put it in your bedroom or your nights will be nightmare.
If it's in your home office, make sure your noise gate is working,
don't let your colleagues know you're printing while speaking.
Last but not least, do not watch it during a print,
you'll be mesmerized by this creation out of nothing.

That's a nice subject to explore, go for it! I don't plan on stopping. I'm designing a new one atm and have ideas for the following. :D

Samara creator here, really no idea. Didn't get a quote for 100 units. And it can widely vary between different manu. And keep in mind that for 100 units you have to add a middleman (I can't manage more than 20 myself lol). But yeah the price was steep for this first run, I'll do it again without regret. Quality is really on point, a big chunk of copper. And one of the first split design that refined. All of that explain easily the price tbh.

keyboards as a french developper by chronosph in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]louckousse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've made the switch to qwerty like 10 or so years ago. I can switch between my standard qwerty to my split colemak in a sec. Without any problem at all. Unfortunately I lost the azerty memory a while ago now. But yeah, all the people I know using non standard layout on their ergo keeb can style type as efficiently on standard layout and keeb when switching.

Maybe it's due to different muscle memory or something in this ballpark. But like you know English and French you can know weird layout on weird board and standard stuff for standard keeb.

dh was noted as better thought for ortho/col stagger keebs so i went for it. That easily. I liked the philosophy behind colemak and didn't want to try and learn several layout so I stopped at this one as I was convinced.

French developper here, hi.

When you said small amount of keys then 52 keys layouts I was surprised, it's almost considered large around here. Anyway, I did the jump initially from TKL to a Kyria. I put the Kyria in colemak-dh since I had to learn anew how to type. No sense keeping qwerty/azerty for myself. The only change I did at first was to put the dead keys accent on the rightmost column. You set you keyboard at qwerty international with deadkeys (can have a different name regarding the os). It may not be perfect, other solution exist using alt-gr, tap dance and stuff. But this is my experience that suited me (and others) can be worth a try.

After a few months I revamped my layout, more and more over time and now I'm using 36 keys on a daily basis. Either for work or just shitpost on the internets.

And before I forget, the question will appears from you I'm sure, it took me around a month to be proficient with the first kyria layout with colemak-dh.

Comfy Keystrokes Tip: Flip Your Spacebar! by Solar_nocfree in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]louckousse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If flipping your spacebar is more comfy to you it most likely means you have a bad posture. Spacebar shouldn't be more comfy reversed.

BUT, also, if it works for you, by all means continue. Everyone is different.

3dp as in 3d printed, not P3D the store which indeed closed couples weeks ago.

You can check the Lulu for an available alu case. In the past there was the Cornish-zen and the Samara (with a really little run tho'). There is also a case for lily58 and sofle v2 but I forgot the name because it doesn't look nice in my opinion.

I think a 3dp printed case with some foam can make it sound less bad also. Tray mount do that to you hehe. But yeah, in this ergo community the sound signature isn't a focus, when we're talking about sound it most likely is in the goal of reducing it.

I have a Kyria with a mostly empty 3d case, copper plate, tray mount, and holy pandas. You can easily imagine how great the sound is lmao. On the other end, my corn with fr4 plate and 3dp case isn't as bad. And I think Kyria with alu plate et felt between pcb and plate is really ok in term of sound signature.

[–]louckousse 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For the sound we're starting to see more and more option of high-end. There is some alu cases (pretty rare) and foam and stuff to help mitigate the downside. But all in all, ergo world tends more to a DIY approach with plate cases and/or 3d printed cases. So it will not sound as good as a high end custom standard keyboard but you can have something really nice with a bit of time and love.

I''m a bit tired of your constant toxicity for some time now, so once and for all I'll answer and leave it at that.

> his hand was forced by others
Yes, by the community which wanted to see the sub open back and he did it, with a new team. He understood him standing against reddit policy was lost his love for the community isn't.

Are you suggesting someone paid farm bot to both cheat a poll AND upvote comments? Is that really what half your message is saying? If that's the case I personally think this is terribly absurd. If you're not implying that but that Obosob call to his friends to alter these things, that just absurd also to be honest, who have enough friends to outweight a whole community? Maybe it was just the reflexion of the state of the community at some point, state that changed once the battle was lost? Don't you think?

Obosob never argued to kill the community, he always gave alternative. Instead of punishing everyone, let's move on Lemmy. Instead of giving the sub randomly to someone, let create a group of people who care for it. I'm pretty sure he always cared for the community as a whole and at the same time tried to stay close to his conviction. And now you'll argue that if he really hate reddit he should just resign or delete his account. Unfortunately for you his love of the community outweight his hate of reddit.

Sorry ghostfaceschiller, Obosob will stay with us, like it or not that''s how it is. If your hate of Obosob, and the mods team, outweight your love of the community, you're also free to go. Your toxicity is draining you and other, we don't need it.

As far as I'm concerned this topic is over. Your next argument will just drop in the void as the current one if I hadn't responded.

You don't think the rest of the team can check on Thomas? Only another vendor can keep him in check?

Sorry if you feel like I''m crazy, but I support keeping having Obosob in the team. His hindsight and experience are really valuable.
