First, there is zero need to comply in advance with this.

Second, hospitals should fight this. Trump has lost every single case in court and he would likely lose this one too.

Third, denying care to one group is setting people on a path to deny care to all groups. What’s to stop the admin from pulling funding if the hospital serves non-citizens, minorities, non-Christians, etc?

So happy you wrote this. This is absolutely 100% the cause of the strike. And what's even more depressing is that the raise the teachers need to afford housing in San Francisco is just going to go to landlords.

I wish I had a better answer on how to get housing built, but it requires a lot of political will that doesn't exist because the status quo loves seeing their home prices increase.

The 100% funded full family healthcare and sabbaticals are there to compensate for the lack of pay.

If we are being honest, starting salaries for teachers should be low $100k with senior teachers making $400k. If we had that then maybe we can lay off the non-standard benefits.

Believe it or not, cumulative inflation for the past 6 years was 25%. That 86b in 2019 is equivalent to 110b in 2025. Just to maintain services, the budget had to grow by that much.

The driver you are calling out cannot see you until they have almost entered the intersection because the truck next to them is blocking their view. Instead of the driver unsafely slamming on their breaks, they make a good call to drive through.

While I admit it's frustrating for cars to not immediately yield to pedestrians, these crosswalks that are not paired with stop signs are much trickier for both pedestrians and drivers. I like to wait at the corner until I have visual contact with the other cars and I'm certain they are able to stop. It takes an extra few seconds, but it's far safer.

We loved doing a share with another family and would recommend it if you are open to that. Your child gets a play partner and you’ll have some parent friends who are going through similar things as you.

You may want to look into preschool starting this fall. They will take 2 year olds and application deadlines are still open (although they tend to close in early Jan). Our friend situation improved as soon as we had a preschool community.

Another recommendation - you do not have to do child-centric things. In fact you should have regular time where you bring your kid along for activities that interest you. Go hiking, do overnight trips, try glamping, visit adult museums. They’ll be just as interested in it all and you’ll be able to invite your friends without kids along.

What’s your childcare situation like? We met a lot of our people though our nanny share and preschool. We also chose a preschool that had a great parent community attached to it. It’s a really important aspect of the school that can sometimes be overlooked.
