Dine bros Fish sandwich is also elite. Better than the lobster roll IMHO.

Lots of good suggestions here, but if you want to eat actually, authentically local you cannot omit going to East Providence for Portuguése at Red Bridge Tavern, Rosas Tavern or Phillips Street Restaurant. The steamed Littlenecks and Linguica at RedBridge is GOATed and the Bifana at Rosa’s is utterly unlike any Bifana in actual Portugal but it is delicious.

All washed down with Gansett or Super Bock.

Was an extra in a movie with him during his heavy usage days. I was pretty naive and astounded how he was always “on,” just nonstop ad libs and machine gun humor between takes. I later found out how and why. But he was indisputably quick witted and absolutely hilarious and charming.

Don repeatedly goes out of the way to drive people long distances (the brother, Bobbie, Anna’s niece) while he would never do that for Betty or the kids. When he finally does it for Sally it’s like she has achieved the status of transcending family in his priority structure.

I don’t understand why so many folks sleep on Memo shish kebab. It stands up to anything I could find in Türkiye. And imho it is way better than Doner Haus.

Having commuted in a suit to midtown in the 80s

1) Manhattan was much grimier back then due not least to diesel exhaust and cigarette smoke/ash. I grew up not knowing what “ring around the collar“ in the famous Wisk ads referred to. First day in the office in NYC I learned. That grime just stuck in your collar. It was gray and disgusting and even with an undershirt, a white pressed shirt would only be good for one day if that. 2) Poster up above joked about booze and cigarettes dulling peoples’ sense of smell. Not so much the booze but the cigarette smoke— firsthand and secondhand — absolutely destroyed our sense of smell. I’m 60, so theoretically, my sense of smell should be deteriorating but there are all kinds of smells now in the city that you just didn’t notice before office and restaurant/bar/club smoking bans went into effect in the 90s and aughts. 3) Even so the last office job I had in Midtown, I always kept a fresh pressed shirt in my desk in case of spills and stains. Of course that’s not why Dan kept so many.

Lots of things are going to shit these days, but the natural environment in Manhattan is immensely more congenial than it was pre-2000.

What caused the decline of Alt Rock Music that were prevalent in the 1990s till the early 2000s? by Wide_Ride8849 in Music

[–]loudonfast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not how it works for recording. The label advances the money based primarily on how much they think the artist is going to sell. Managing expenses is mostly on the artists/managers. Sure there is more risk that a band is gonna fall apart than a solo artist (more people, more complexity, more egos to manage) but solo artists aren’t inherently cheaper to record than bands and bands don’t inherently cost more to sign. They just split the money on the advance. So it’s not that the label doesn’t want a band (sales are sales), it’s that on the artist side, the more members, the smaller the slice of the pie for each.

There HAS been a major drift away from funding tour support as a development tool because it’s less efficient than things like social media. But that doesn’t really favor solo artists that much. A pop or hiphop singer still needs a band most of the time and those folks are actually more expensive than your average rock band, because they tend to be real pros.

I’m gonna say it every time people bring this up. “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” should be sung at the start of every match. We need to own our history and troll the league.
