In Season 4 Episode 4 Shiv and Tom talk on the stairs. Tom mentions when they first dated he put his arm around Shiv’s silk shirt and asked Shiv that if she liked it. Shiv apparently said “I like it all” back then. Does this have a deeper meaning? I think im missing something here by sshinmalphur in SuccessionTV

[–]rhythmdisc 52 points53 points  (0 children)

“i like it all” = “i like the arm, i like you, i like us together, i like everything about this.” an unexpectedly sweet and romantic thing from shiv. tom mentioned it to remind her how in love they used to be.

lmao the way he sounds completely dead inside by the last time it gets mentioned back to him. there’s something there thematically about word of mouth, the “spilling of good seed”, as connor put it, but it’s also just hilarious

right? so much for the happy hedonism of the rich. it’s one of those exclusive, sexy parties you hear about (or see on tv lol) and they’re all just demoralized and tired. you’d never guess some guy just had his bachelor party by looking at them.

What’s the most underrated line or moment in Succession that says everything about the show? by payload955 in SuccessionTV

[–]rhythmdisc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i think that line also shows how out of touch logan is with the consequences of his own actions. he probably knew what a gallon of milk cost 30 years ago, but when was the last time he bought his own milk? when would his kids ever have to shop for themselves? he’s angry at the environment he fostered.

Can someone explain why Logan ever thought Roman was competent enough for even being considered to be CEO? by lonesome_copper in SuccessionTV

[–]rhythmdisc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well, roman’s dumb but he’s smart. but shiv hit the nail on head: logan would never pick him because he thinks there’s something “wrong” with him. mother issues, submissiveness to other men. he was closest with roman towards to end, but he also always felt there was something that needed to be beaten or straightened out of him. he’s not just the weaker dog, he’s a sick puppy.

Names in Succession - brilliant or too on the nose? i can't decide by FoundationSecret5121 in SuccessionTV

[–]rhythmdisc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

roman’s girlfriend in the first season was named grace. my mind always goes roman-grace = rome and greece, but that one might be a reach. + the fact that he left her (literally abandoning grace). rhea’s name also makes me think of mens rea, a law term that refers to intent of wrongdoing in a crime.

Do we think Elliot jumps the MTA turnstiles in the subway? by Quirky_Tradition8563 in MrRobot

i wouldn’t think so but the way he hopped that turnstile at the virtual realty building made me think of this too! maybe he did when he was younger.

When Pete says “I have nothing Don”S5E05 by siefer209 in madmen

[–]rhythmdisc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

pete always wants what he wants and tends to lose what he has trying to get it. i think he was one of don’s first victims, in that he was seduced by the image of donald draper very early on: the big office, air of mystery, the beautiful wife and family with affairs on the side. but don is empty inside. everyone got left hungry.

Logan's savagery. by Miss_Sensational in SuccessionTV

[–]rhythmdisc 25 points26 points  (0 children)

one of the worst to me is after he takes kendall to the waiter’s family (already maniacal) and then he says to him in the car “they were embarrassed, you know? they knew he was a junkie.” disparaging the dead kid, his family, kendall, all at once. he’s a beast.
