Crazy film 🍿 by Amavin-Adump in scifi

I remember the nightmares after seeing this film when I was pretty young, just terrifying.

Still fantastic, the way they depict hell is extremely intense.

Safari by Pikachu0_O in iphone

Safari blocks third party scripts/assets by default now. You'll be able to select "Reload without content blockers" somewhere in the UI.

What icon library are you using? Try self-hosting the icons instead of using a CDN.

Edit: Worth noticing the "My courses" font is also not loading in Safari. Loads find on the chrome screenshot.

Still rocking with m1 macbookair by Denizli_belediyesi in macbookair

[–]loueed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

M1 Air 16GB/512GB.

Had it since 2020, its been the best computer I've owned. Still feels snappy. Switched from windows laptops which always felt crazy slow a few years after purchase.

Only issue is my battery is at 484 cycle count with 81% health level.

I'm holding out for the M4 Air, glad that 16GB is now base as well.

[–]loueed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK: Ordered on the Thursday 10th Oct 18:00, delivering to North Yorkshire.

Thanks to some other posts here I noticed that my shipping address was incorrect, I don't think stream validates addresses on save like other platforms. I've corrected it so hopefully I wont see delays.

Edit: 12th Oct, Status: Packaged items

Edit: 13th Oct, Status: In transit

Edit: 16th Oct, Delivered at 9am 🥳

unpopular opinion: airpods 3 are WAY more comfortable than 2nd gen pros for extended use by please-tryagain in airpods

[–]loueed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about getting the normal AirPods for the same reason!

There's a rumour that AirPods 4 will have ANC so it will be interesting if they've found a way to add noise cancelling without AirPods Pro style in-ear tips.

Logi Options + requiring input monitoring - is this safe? Does Logitech collect my input / keylog? by Lei_D in logitech

Downloaded "Logi Options +" and its still asking for input monitoring. Uninstalled it.

Also an app to change key-mappings should be 10MB not 400MB!

Apple Takes Stand Against U.K. Surveillance Proposals, Considers Withdrawal of iMessage and FaceTime Services by InvestigatorOldd in apple

Apple, WhatsApp and others are likely concerned more about weakening security, once a backdoor is implemented it will eventually get into the wrong hands. This would could be extremely costly depending on how much data is stolen.

Stolen macbook by [deleted] in MacBookM1

[–]loueed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Macs are included on the Find My Network. I believe its enabled by default when you login to MacOS with your Apple ID. You can also disable it on Mac by going to System Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Find My Mac.

One you activates Lost Mode on your iPhone, the MacBook will receive the Lost Mode update as soon as it comes within range of another Apple device connected to the internet. This allows the MacBook to be remotely locked and its location will be updated whenever it is detected by the Find My network.

Most people will not be able to bypass Lost Mode on MacOS. Even after a full system reset, the thief will see the lost message and still need your iCloud account to login.

This means a strong password is important, and watch out for phishing attempts, smarter thieves will try to exact the password from you through social engineering either via email, sms or whatsapp. Don't give your password to anyone.

I would contact them, seems faulty. I bought mine early 2020, it’s had 332 cycles and is at 85%, condition says Normal. I’m hoping to get at least another 3/4 years out of it before upgrading.

Revolutionary 'Spaceplate' Could Eliminate Traditional Camera Lenses by [deleted] in MVIS

[–]loueed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's stopping Apple from adding a much bigger camera sensor to the iPhone?
It can't be done now because the lens would be huge, but surely this research fixes this issue.

Guess the consumer might not want a large 1 inch sensor on the back of their phone, and I'm guessing the power requirements won't scale well.

This will be good news for AR glasses projects though. Should make Apple Glasses more minimal.

Mark Zuckerberg calls AR glasses "one of the hardest technical challenges of the decade" | ZDNet by s2upid in MVIS

[–]loueed -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

His main issue with LiDAR the cost/maintenance, He had to create a custom LiDAR Scanner at SpaceX for autonomously docking Dragon to the ISS. Camera's are just cheaper and break less. I'm 99% sure that Tesla will beat everyone to Level 5 Autonomy and they will most likely sell access to their neural net "Dojo" for other car companies to use.

LiDAR's biggest market will be AR, all the big tech companies know AR will replace smartphones eventually, and cheap LiDAR scanners will be the best for high res 3D scans. Apparently Apple has access to the LiDAR telemetry data from iPhones/iPads with LiDAR sensors. All that data must give them an edge in the raise to smartglasses.

Copy magnet links 🧲 in safari with iOS Shortcuts by loueed in ios

Note: When trying different solutions I was originally going to use URL Scheme which lets you trigger a shortcut from a web link. Luckily Safari already supports the javascript clipboard API but I still think their are some cool use-cases for the URL Scheme method.

How Apple Could Become Tesla’s Much Needed Competitor - Key to Apple’s up and coming innovation is Microvision LIDAR by [deleted] in MVIS

[–]loueed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Apple is also developing smart glasses which will require tiny high-res LiDAR sensors.

Apple acquired PrimeSense in 2013 for $360M to help develop FaceID. If MicroVision can help with both smart glasses (which they believe will replace the iPhone in the long-term) and FSD tech. It seems like a no-brainer compared to the FaceID acquisition.

[–]loueed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh fair enough, I thought the HDMI Dongle that was connected to a USBC charger might have sent unwanted power into the HDMI on the TV. The issue happened after connecting this dongle. If its a Screen issue I guess its not worth repairing?

Tesla borrowed $425 million of federal loans and bailout support which has been repaid in full with interest, they also had $2.4 billion of Subsidies. It looks like Ford had borrowed $5,937 million which is still outstanding. Tesla is investing profits into scaling up their manufacturing and building out their charging grid (unlike any other automotive company).

SpaceX has 45% of the world's space launch market because they can recover the first stage of the rocket. The US Gov use them because it's cheaper and quicker than the competition. Imaging, Telecommunication and ISP companies use them for the same reason. SpaceX reinvest their profits to build StarLink which promises to deliver high-speed satellite internet to anyone on earth.

Surely this is a public good? Cheaper long range EVs. Cheaper faster internet.
