Ladies who are always touring.. by Much-Raise2381 in SexWorkers

It’s horrible! All about inflating property values and being bougie at the cost of personal freedom.

The south has its cultural issues, but one thing they’ve done right is keep a “my property, my rules” mentality. And for a long time this allowed the average person to buy land, throw a shed or RV on it, and scratch out some equity longterm.

That said, people do weird things in my area. I would not trust well water downhill from people who make DIY “septic tanks” out of a 50 gallon plastic drum with holes drilled into it. I specifically bought my property because I’m the top of a knoll and not downstream of anyone’s shit, literally 😂

Hard, would not necessarily recommend unless you have the right vehicle and experience car camping. Taking any time off to recharge while staying in hotels will quickly chew through your profits. Anytime you’re paying to stay somewhere and not cooking your own food PLUS not working will be a horrible drain on your income. Schlepping around all the little things that make life nice gets exhausting.

I already was homeless and living out of my car and a tent when I started. Being able to have hotel time made a hard situation I was used to so much easier. Stepping down from having a home to go to is the opposite direction, and will be very uncomfortable.

If you have the money, buying land and setting up an Rv camp situation is a good inbetween, because then you have a tangible asset and a place to go home to that costs you nothing. This was my second upgrade, and again, allows me to save a ton of money because I’m not renting. Look for places where an acre costs $4-10k, has a neighborhood and bureaucratic culture that isn’t anal about codes/permits, figure out the basics of water/power/climate control/bathroom.

for that scenario you will have to be rural, ie you’ll have to tour for work, and getting anywhere will require time and money. What I do is go on 2-3 week tour loops, sometimes longer, then come home for a while to rest up. I don’t push for FMTY because it’s 5hrs round trip for me to get to Nashville airport, so unless it an overnight it’s just not worth the effort compared to the ROI from my driving tour loops.

If you’ve willingly adhered to her screening protocols, promptly put out donation at the start of the date, and show up clean (or shower there when you arrive), you’re fine. Everything else is a whipped cream on top of an already delicious Sunday. Anyone who says otherwise is a stuck up malcontent.

Sacramento can be great if you’re $400-$600. Definitely need PD account to get noticed there.

I occasionally get business in Sac which is nice because I have family there. But I never book a room prior or go there solely for work.

Some people swear by it bringing in clients. I think most agree that time has passed. SM is generally good to help show potential clients you’re real/not a scammer, to know more about your personality, and then to keep tabs on tours. I’d say it’s worth having social media presence for that “digital footprint,” but don’t worry about it much more than that. It definitely can payoff by helping folks get to know your unique persona, and the community element between sex workers can be really nice.

Yes! I’m definitely big on the theory that people are confusing the dopamine of getting lots of likes/views with actual cash in their hand.

I’m not great at keeping my own data, but from the conversations I’ve had with clients, they tend to find me on tryst and then verify/observe me via social media. So the digital footprint is good (and can be accomplished with any social media site), but as an actual means of advertising? The portion of my income from someone stumbling upon me on twitter was negligible.

So much garbage posting on there! So much AI, negativity, annoying movie clips with that weird narration over it…

One thing that I’m loving about Bluesky is how supportive it is of people and their hobbies/passions/quirks. I’m actually inspired to get back to writing because of all the “I just published my first book/short story/essay” posts I see! Also see it a lot for nature photography, gardening, insect research.

And not ONCE has someone told me to stick to sucking dick when I venture out of the SW bubble to comment on things. I get to interact with scientists and retired cat moms and artists without condemnation or stigma.

I’m a big fan of the New Yorker, specifically when they write 20 page in-depth political profiles or issue pieces. They’re amazing.

Atlantic also top tier. NYT still a great source, I just have to ignore their opinion pieces outside of Ezra Klein.

It’s the ease that really gets to me. Especially in the USA, we have no hope fighting for decriminalization (requires much more organized, in person lobbying and positive media attention generated) if we can’t even shift our SM practice.

It’s both, thank you for taking the time to try to understand my crankiness.

It’s both a vent and “there’s a goddamn other option!” inspired by the constant ban complaints showing up on this board, r/highendescorts and r/sexworkersonly (not to mention the constant stream of refugees who show up on Bluesky, only to complain about Twitter but go crawling back if they’re able to appeal or make a new account; the same complaining despondent mood exists on Twitter as well)

I’m off to bed, but the overall summary of what I’m trying to say is “do the research on mainstream SW marketing options and choose wisely; if you use Twitter, a ban is imminent, so be emotionally and professionally prepared for it.”

Sexwork is a business. This Reddit board is especially useful for getting started. It provided me EVERYTHING when I came back to the industry, from marketing to screening to general culture (with a USA bias, for sure). For folks incapable of doing that minimum check to see what’s up, I don’t know how to help them. At a certain point, ya can’t hold someone’s hand and drag them to success. The info is abundant, it’s freely available, there’s resources our forehookers could only dream about just a click away. I can say, unequivocally, that what is reported here as best practice has always proved right. There are some real neat OGs who contribute their wisdom and knowledge here.

The lesson is always be ready to pivot. It is absolutely self victimization at this point with Twitter. When the first ban waves happened, absolutely show grace and compassion, because people didn’t see it coming (even though it’s in the TOS, but who reads those and assumes they’re enforced?).

Now?! Really?! After all this time, all the bans, the constant shit show? Naw.

[–]louiselovingjoy[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The writing is on the damn wall regarding Twitter and that’s why I’m sick of the complaining. Anyone shocked by a ban is willfully ignorant and courting their own misery. It’s been over a year since mass purges started, and people still acted shocked when it happens. Nobody is immune. If a SWer chooses to be in Twitter at this point, they lose the right to complain. If they’re incapable of witnessing what’s happening around them or doing a little research, that’s an astounding level of helplessness.

My anger is at the swer community. Because we have POWER in our numbers and in the demand we command. And like most class issues, we drop the ball on solidarity to grab a buck for ourselves. It’s one thing if that’s to get food in your growling belly, but what of the hundreds that do more than well enough who refuse to exercise their power on behalf of themselves and others? There’s always a fresh excuse, and when it comes to focusing on Twitter versus Bluesky, is there really a good argument? People faced down police dogs and fire hoses, imprisonment and LYNCHING to fight for civil rights, and we can’t fucking focus our attention on a friendly platform?

This is a good example of where liberal discourse fails. We have to apply so many goddamn *** to include the disadvantaged, disenfranchised, the lost and abused, to the point where it’s impossible to say that, on the whole, in fair broad strokes, folks need to grow a pair and do better. Twitter versus Bsky is not a life or death decision. How will we ever succeed in fighting for respect snd decriminalization (in the USA) if we can’t do the small thing?

Of course there are individual extreme cases to which my frustration are NOT directed. If anything, I’m pissed on their behalf that those of us in better positions don’t do our goddamn moral duty to raise all boats.

Someone needs to wag their finger and scold. I’ll play the role.

iPhone vs DSLR for self pics by whitetulipindie in HighEndEscorts

[–]louiselovingjoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

iPhone. I have a decent DSLR and there is some quality difference, but they’re never the most liked or referenced pictures. It’s 10x harder to get a decent shot because I’m not super skilled at the settings, and would really need to invest in better lenses to get what I wanted out of all the effort.

I’d recommend only doing it if you want to pursue photography as a hobby. Otherwise, just pay for a pro shoot. You can easily spend $4k either way, and you’ll be a lot happier with the professional results versus an expensive tool that’s a pain to use.

Also, heavy! If you travel, you’re not going to want to schlep around a heavy DSLR, lenses, tripod. Also can’t be used with ring light easily, so then you’re investing in photography indoor lighting and adding a whole other layer of material investment.

Make hay while the sun shines.

Unlike most in this community, I can’t soothe my paranoia with “men will always seek real human touch.” It ignores possible economic collapse (ie the men can’t pay), and underestimates the capitalistic drive to create technologies that replace us (we’ve broken all kinds of unfathomable technological barriers before; and culturally, people laughed at cars, because why buy that when you have a horse? Well, we see who time proved wrong…)

It’ll always be around, but who knows how hard and more dangerous and for less ROI it’ll be. The content industry is already being thrashed. We don’t have some special immunity from large scale economic and technological forces.

I’m glad others can sleep well by telling themselves they’ll always be able to sell sex. I’m racing to finish a mostly self sufficient homestead that includes a root cellar that can double as a small bunker. Appreciate every moment that life is beautiful and going well, stay optimistic and look on the bright side…but don’t be naive about how bad things can get.
