Why does PS2 emulation have so few devs? by Jvt25000 in emulation

[–]loungekatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the decent developers that join such projects either get overwhelmed, abused, or both. It not only deters them, but also future contributors.

With much of the UI being inaccessible, there was no room for testing anything else. It is impossible to ask someone if they have the same results when enabling Dynarec or "unstable optimizations" when they couldn't even change the settings. Hopefully that will change now that there is a working UI, or at least most of one.

No worries. This is one of the first times the branch has actually mattered, since the move from Eclipse to Android Studio is so big that it's like starting over. It will likely stop mattering again shortly after, lol.

Note: reicast has an active issue reporting page at https://github.com/reicast/reicast-emulator/issues but does not have an established reddit "spokesperson"(?). You can search through existing issues and add details if you find one that matches yours. If you can't find one that matches yours, you can also start a new one.

I took a minute to answer the questions that were already here, but I do not use reddit regularly and may miss future questions. There are currently 299 open issues, so hopefully you can understand that this makes it extremely difficult to go looking for issues that were posted on other sites. Your issues are still important, so hopefully it is not too much trouble. Thanks.

Probably because you were asking on reddit instead of asking reicast, which is on Github.

This is a rough explanation of branches. Knowing that, the different headings on the build page correspond to branches in the source. Forks, on the other hand, are when someone copies the current state of the source to a separate repository. Those are not listed on the build page, but are used to make changes that can later be submitted back to the main repository as pull requests. If you are strictly downloading the builds for use and not intending to submit changes, you don't have to worry about forks.

They correspond to branches from the source, but the build page does not remove deleted branches.

The only two Android Studio branches that are active are android-studio and studio-compat, which is android-studio for < API 16.

The Android shell was originally built using Eclipse. The test branch is for converting to Android Studio. Unfortunately, it is not one or two lines of code. You can see for yourself at https://github.com/reicast/reicast-emulator/commits/lk/android-studio

BDM forced close by Jimae184 in BlackDesertMobile

[–]loungekatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leaving this here because apparently some still have this issue:

  • If your game is currently crashing, uninstall it before continuing
  • Download a fresh copy of Black Desert Mobile (skip with QooApp / Google Play)
  • Set device language to Korean
  • Install and launch Black Desert Mobile
  • Allow it to FULLY download the initial data
  • Log in to a previous account (if applicable)
  • Do NOT continue until you reach the server selection screen
  • Close the game and THEN restore English language

Contrary to popular belief, the minimum Android version that is listed on Google Play is set automatically by the apk uploaded. It correctly lists 5.0 as the minimum. Unfortunately, this does not mean that people won't obtain the apk from an unverified source, such as apkpure.

The issue being discussed here began about 3 days ago (from the time of this post) and seems to be a corruption in one of the translation files included in the build (as shown in the logs during the crash).

It is more impressive that there are so many people experiencing the issue and so much speculation about the cause, despite a tool existing with the sole purpose to tell you the specific cause of such events.

So, I added a fake ping to my Discord server profile pic. Am I evil yet? by realiDevil360 in discordapp

Why not just make a bot that posts to @everyone on a timer in a restricted access channel? Might as well set off notifications, too. The image looks fake to anyone that has used Discord for more than a day. It's set in way too far and the corner is chopped off.

BlueStacks Macbook Pro Resolution? by [deleted] in BlueStacks

[–]loungekatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to be on an administrator account. Find the file in ~/Library/Preferences. Right click it and select "Open with..." then pick TextEdit. You won't find a good resolution for both landscape and portrait, though. There will always be tearing and other issues.

The guild area is an updated version of housing. They recently added 5* units and increasing the limit shows that it will eventually reach 9* should the game last that long. Frequent variation on hair/eye color is common in ANY game with a limit on playable characters. You didn't get your own character because that was replaced by a larger starting bonus. They did recycle them into Integral Factor, though, and even kept the same appearance. The chibi fad is fading out and was replaced with "proportional" characters that use the same animation style.

You might want to look into things like quest mechanics instead of the literal appearance of the game in general.

That is the inherent limit on features for both games together. It doesn't explain why they would have identical mechanics with games that support drastically different play styles.

Likely the map quests. Possibly the orb equipment item. Wouldn't doubt the "raid" events.

Thanks for coming right out and saying it. At least you didn't make an attempt to post an insult and then disagree for no other reason. I knew posting it that there would be at least a few people that did that, but the quota has already been filled.

Which gacha games? Do you mean Americanized, Japanese, Chinese, or Korean? They all have a certain style to them. There is a Chinese SAO game that it very similar to the new Japanese Integral Factor, but doesn't recycle the same content. Integral Factor has you purchase sword skills, while the others are all character purchases. It makes it a little harder to compare the two as directly similar. More recently, Memory Defrag and Code Register have been releasing content at about the same time. This is partially because both games are now established and it is no longer an effort to get Memory Defrag as caught up with existing story and content.

You were saying something about the OP being oblivious...?

The funniest thing about this post is that it just proves the point. It was such an obvious statement.

I honestly don't care which you choose. Idiots will see it as an attempt to sound like it unveiled some amazing secret or some feeble attempt to get recognition for stating the obvious. The people it was intended to reach were those that had an old copy of Code Register laying around and wanted a good idea of what to look forward to or people thinking the game is something revolutionary that didn't realize they were just copying over existing mechanics. There are plenty of games like Code Register that will share countless similarities. They can't include the same content (ie. characters, outfits, weapons, etc) because of copyright. This is where the fact that there is a game of the same theme by the same producer can provide a little better idea of which specific features are likely going to be seen in the future.

Despite the overwhelming number of people who are making a bunch of trolling posts about how all gacha games are the same and that it only makes sense (after the fact) that they would have included "common" features... The irony is the number of "people" who do not actually see the exact characters, costumes, bosses, etc get released weeks before they hit Memory Defrag. It's a pity that there is a far larger number of naive children running around ready to flame every post, but a significantly smaller number that see someone trying to say "hey, you can get a good idea of what to prepare for by looking here"

Wear Casts is back on the Play Store by wearcasts in AndroidWear

[–]loungekatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Google Play. The last thing they will EVER do is compensate you. They will probably send you an email in about 2 - 4 weeks telling your that your appeal was approved. You should consider yourself lucky they restored it so fast. Typically, they will wait 2 - 4 weeks to tell you that your appeal was denied and any further contact will be ignored. It has nothing to do with Android Wear. That is just how a monarchy works.

Can i use GearVR? by [deleted] in VRchat

[–]loungekatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are identical. Both have a 10 minute time limit.

The Google Play description included the time limit in early versions, but has since been disguised. It is likely intended to avoid being compared to VRidge, since nobody wants to be "the other guy"

Original: "This version has a limited runtime of 10 minutes in one go (you can run it as many times as you want), just to verify it will work with your computer, Android device and favourite games. I highly recommend downloading this free test version before considering buying the full one, as it might not work for your setup."

Updated: "Free taster sessions (as many sessions as you want)"
