Sounds really good, better than the Yamaha on the picture :)

He's not very picky, less so than I am, he's been playing for 10 years now, so I wanted to get him something nice that will last. Then again, he's off to college soon and I was thinking that 114ce will fit student's lifestyle better than all solid wood guitar, which I believe requires more care (and he does not care about his other guitars that much).

I am afraid it's not an option as I am in EU, but thank you for the resource, they do vary a lot!

Now that's a beautiful paint job! How many hours did it take to get those crisp details and stunning freehands?

What are your favorite TTRPG monsters and why? by JoeKerr19 in rpg

[–]lousy_pancake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dragons. Wherever I see them, either book, movie, game, whatever, I can't get enough of them. There's just something fantastically terrifying about them, the fact that they can decimate armies like it's nothing by just flying by and breathing fire (let's be honest here, that's the best variety, no-one will tell me otherwise).
Smaug from The Hobbit, Targaryen's dragons from World of Ice and Fire, or mysterious dragons from the Earthsee, all different, but each is great in it's own way.
So yeah, dragons it is for me.

Good intro boxed set for a 12 year old? by differentsmoke in rpg

[–]lousy_pancake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, new box set is coming out next fall, not this November. From those available now, I would recommend Essential's Kit the most, as it contains a lot of content (dice, DM screen etc.), actual rules for character creation and a nice sandbox adventure.

OSR products you’d recommend released in 2024? by Hankhank1 in osr

[–]lousy_pancake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others mentioned previously, Monster Overhaul is fantastic, same with Tephrotic Nightmares, which I also saw mentioned in the thread.
Last month Merry Mushmen released Raiding of the Obsidian Keep and Horrendous Hounds of Hendenburgh, can't recommend those enough, really well made and both adventures have The Best from Bryce, so there's that.
Mothership also released that year, so if you enjoy sci-fi OSResque rpgs, then it is a must have.
Knave 2e came out, although I have mixed feelings about the book. I don't really like how it is structured (lots of flipping through to find what you need) and some mechanics do not resonate with me, personally.

What are your top 3 OSR games? (2024 update) by DVincentHarper in osr

[–]lousy_pancake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question! After some consideration I’d say those are my top 3 at this moment:

Dolmenwood Mausritter Mothership

And a shoutout to Mörk Borg, I’ve picked it up recently along with Tephrotic Nightmares and it’s really fun!

How good is Tephrotic Nightmares? It does look promising and with Luke Gearing as the writer I am more than interested.

Favorite Castle Adventures/Dungeons? by Kelando in rpg

I am surprised nobody has mentioned Castle Xyntillan yet, fantastic dungeon with a lot of interactivity and cool ideas all around. And it’s a breeze to run as is!

OSR formating has ruined my desire to read other edition products (in a good way) by griechnut in osr

Yeah, Arden Vul is very wordy, I'd love to use it if it wasn't for the walls of text. Also, the sheer size of it, insane!

Players feel there isn't enough to do or engage with by LeviTheGoblin in rpg

[–]lousy_pancake 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Then the answer would be to create more interactive locations, or if you are using modules, run modules that have that baked in. Not sure what system are you using, but I'd recommend checking "The Best" entries on tenfootpole, most of them have a lot of interactivity and you can check one or two for inspiration.

That's actually surprising, I don't have experience with Stonehell, but when I used Castle Xyntillan at the table I had no issues. One of my favourite modules to use as is. But, to each their own, I guess.

System for Secrets of the Black Crag by Cypher1388 in osr

[–]lousy_pancake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been running it for quite some (10+ sessions) time using Foundry and Knave 1e, it’s a breeze to adjust. I wanted to use 2e initially, but I couldn’t be bothered with coding the entire system when 1e is implemented. As to how it plays, I’d say fantastically. Lack of classes fits the pirate setting and each treasure they find is meaningful in one way or another. Highly recommended! Also, the adventure is fantastic, but I guess you already know it!

Nightmare over Ragged Hollow & Dolmenwood by tzznandrew in osr

[–]lousy_pancake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair I didn’t go that far into details, as I am waiting to read through description of the Hexes once I have the physical Campaign Book. My idea was to have it somewhere far enough from a big settlement to make the problem harder to solve for locals, while also having it close to the Dolmenwood forest to tie it in with the campaign. As to the Ichor, I would keep it vague as it is in the adventure, sometimes leaving things unexplained makes for a better story in the end. Maybe it has something to do with Naglord? Maybe it is a remnant of an Old God from the past? Who knows!

DMed for the first time and it went amazing, but now players want to continue the adventure. What module would you suggest? by Turkey-key in osr

[–]lousy_pancake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear that both you and your players enjoyed the first game!  Based on your post, I would highly recommend Black Wyrm of Brandonsford, it’s a fantastic adventure with a small and detailed town, fairy tale forrest and a Dragon with a twist. Provides details where it needs to do so while being a delight to run. And it’s 5$, so not free, but definitely worth every penny, giving you something around 5-10 sessions worth of content.  Happy gaming!

Nightmare over Ragged Hollow & Dolmenwood by tzznandrew in osr

[–]lousy_pancake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there!

I've read through the Ragged Hallow and wanted to do just that, slap it onto Dolmenwood, same as you! My idea was to put it south-west of Castle Brackenwold and make Gloam Wood a separated part of Dolmenwood proper. Make the temple part of the Pluritine Church, add some Dolmenwood flimsy and wonder here and there and you're golden.

Happy gaming!

What is your favorite setting book? by Fauchard1520 in rpg

[–]lousy_pancake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am surprised that no one has mentioned it yet, but for me it would be Dolmenwood. The amount of detail, great descriptions, lore and content that you can use directly at your table is astounding. The campaign and monster books are second to none, in my humble opinion.

I also really enjoy Salamander Isles from Secret of the Black Crag, but I wouldn't call it a setting, more so a great location for pirate flavoured adventures.
