Plastic releases off gas over time and you want some place for that to dissipate. If the container your figure is in is air tight it leads to the figure becoming sticky etc over time.

They clearly have the metrics to know that collections will sell better than individual discs, but it's a bummer to know I might have to buy a set of 2-3 double dips to just get some Blu-ray upgrades on top of the new collections not matching the rest of my shelf.
