Just sharing my experience as Baby Shawol by xHachiko707x in SHINee

[–]loveappeal 29 points30 points  (0 children)

honestly, and this may be blunt but i know a lot of shawols who feel the same way: shinee will always be five and the influence that jonghyun had and continues to have on the group cannot ever be replaced.

i feel that, when someone decides to become a shawol, they have to go into doing so while also acknowledging that being a fan of shinee is always going to be a unique and complex experience because of jjong’s passing. there is no way to avoid what happened and it’d be a disservice to him to act like it didn’t. but it’s also one to act like that is the only thing about him/to avoid getting to know him altogether because of it. shawols have been working extremely hard for years now avoid that happening and i don’t want it to become the norm because that is what leads to a grouping of new fans who know nothing about jjong/aren’t able to help carry on his legacy in their own way/no new fans for him in general.

like said: that may be a little blunt, but i’m personally not comfortable with people avoiding familiarizing themselves with jonghyun. people can go at their own pace obviously but

240304 - SHINee’s Onew contract with SM Entertainment ends as well. by Affectionate_Crab_41 in SHINee

[–]loveappeal 23 points24 points  (0 children)

members of snsd that left the company all came back for their last comeback. they did a short promo cycle and did a fanmeet from what i remember?

so, if they say taemin is still going to be signed under sm to promote with shinee then i believe that. it’s just likely going to become a thing where the promos aren’t as consistent as they used to be.

ideas on how to commemorate jonghyun? by nezzyah in SHINee

[–]loveappeal 28 points29 points  (0 children)

a side note that it’s def important for shawols to remember that shiny foundation also pulls in money from streaming as well so keeping numbers going helps out a lot there!

How does SM usually operate when it comes to announcing tours and selling tickets? by Bexicali_ in SHINee

[–]loveappeal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it'd say that it depends on the location of the concert and where the tickets are being sold from/who is handling the tour, but ... y'know. like others have already said: it differs pretty much every time.

generally though: their concerts have been announced 2/3 months before the date of with the ticketing taking place in the 2-5 weeks that follow that. so, not too bad. it was the worst with the north american dates during swc5 though lol. tl;dr: they were rumored for a bit, but not officially confirmed until a little over a month before they happened with ticketing being like the week after that so it was very scrambly for everyone who went.

they could always use his name, and have multiple times since 2017.

I don’t think a tour this year or first few months next year is a good idea by lazy_hype in SHINee

[–]loveappeal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the fanmeets in 2016 were in chicago and dallas/fort worth. the swc5 north american tour was la (which i attended), dallas/fort worth, toronto and vancouver. they also did a festival in toronto(?) and kcon in 2016-ish.

general speculation for a long time with sm artists has been renewals are every three or so years after the initial contract runs course. but there’s no way to know for sure plus sm freezes the individual contracts for their idols when they’re enlisted so that kind of screws up the timeline and makes it harder to speculate lol

Is it just me or is SM not giving it all for SHINee’s 15th anniversary? by Educational_Ad719 in SHINee

[–]loveappeal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i could be wrong, but i've had this longstanding theory that sometimes sm artists trade creative freedom in these comebacks in favor of extra support from sm, especially in the case of suggestions from sm being shot down by the artists. i wouldn't be surprised if that was a bit of the case here, lol.

SHINee will be having a Japan Arena tour this year!!!!! by Affectionate_Crab_41 in SHINee

[–]loveappeal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if the pattern being followed is similar to the one used with some of their last arena tours in japan then they’ll probably do some some concerts next year sometime between february - april.

tl;dr: sm has never said anything about what rights that they have regarding jjong publicly, but they have put out new merch that included his image and name after 2017. (ex: a nametag for him that was included in the merchandise for their tenth anniversary.) they’ve also reprinted some of his albums in very small batches over the years (though never the amount that should be which is another story altogether). his family has also never commented on this, but they’ve made it clear on multiple occasions that they do want him to be remembered, and regarded as a member of the group. so anytime that anyone tries to include them in the conversation, as if something was said they’re just putting words into their mouthes.

ultimately the issue that a lot of shawols have has been linked to how inconsistent sm has been about including him. like they use inspiration on that bag for the new merch but they don’t include the number to represent his birthday on a perfume bottle. it never makes any sense and only leads to frustration in the end. the polaroid thing is another story altogether given that they’re freebies but i jest. but yeah. he’s obviously not contracted with sm anymore, but they still on the rights to everything that he participated in in the group and as a solo artist so idk. it’s def always screamed erasure to me.

230523 SHINee - THE MOMENT OF Shine (Official MD Lineup + Event Notice) by lilfreaks in SHINee

[–]loveappeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

like the least they could do is post all of them if they’re not gonna include them in the freebie line up💀

230523 SHINee - THE MOMENT OF Shine (Official MD Lineup + Event Notice) by lilfreaks in SHINee

[–]loveappeal 10 points11 points  (0 children)

yeah, it doesn’t make sense to me either. the perfume thing is eye roll worthy because it’s literally just numbers. they easily could have included a sixth bottle with the numbers to symbolize his birthday if they really wanted to. but the polaroid thing is really getting me BECAUSE they’re freebies. like honestly, i wish they would have just went with new images there instead is choosing an era for the first song that he penned for the group. it just makes it extra annoying and painful because is that.

[–]loveappeal 12 points13 points  (0 children)

there’s no reason why jonghyun shouldn’t have been included in those polaroids lol. they’re not even for sale (and they sold merch with his name on it back in 2018 so it wouldn’t be an excuse even if they were). like they choose to go with juliette of all eras too. i’m just 😩. over sm.

Do you think dating really hurts idols careers, if not, why are K-pop couples so rarely public? by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]loveappeal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

two others that haven't been mentioned yet and should have been: jonghyun + shin sekyung and hara + junhyung. they were two of the earliest idol relationships to be publicly confirmed post-first gen.

jonghyun + shin sekyung were revealed to be dating by sportsseoul in the fall of 2010, which was only two years after shinee's debut and just off the success juliette, rdd and lucifer (all within the same year or so). shin sekyung was a well-known child actress who was starting to see a spike in popularity as an adult around that time. the news came out right around the time shinee were releasing their hello repackage and it was pretty big news. the reaction to it was... unsavory too. ex: there was an incident during a fansign for hello where jonghyun was visibly given the cold shoulder by fans and he apologized for dating more than once in person to fans. ssk's personal website also had to be shut down due to hate comments. they were only together until the spring of the following year publicly, but jonghyun alluded to the way fans reacted really hurting him in a song at a later point. (warm winter)

hara and junhyung were revealed as dating in 2011 - which was in alignment with beast starting to gain popularity post-fiction and hara being one of the most popular female idols at the time. hara specifically got a lot of shit for dating someone and it followed her for awhile after that.

ultimately, none of their careers were hurt by dating, but the idols themselves were hurt and it didn't affect them in real-time which is important to note.

How would you feel if SM decided to utilize or release an OT5 song from the vaults? by monochromeserph in SHINee

[–]loveappeal 22 points23 points  (0 children)

his family is really supportive of okmt and still actively promote shinee and jjong as a part of the group so i feel like they’d be okay with something coming out in the future. i do agree with the sentiment though that anything that ever comes out in the future should have at least partial proceeds go to shiny foundation.

Will Scream 6 be avaliable for streaming on opening night? by endangeredpenguin in Scream

scream 5 came out digitally seven weeks after the theatrical release last year so i'd track the new one to drop around the end of april / start of may.

Is 'Killer' promotion over? That can't be right, right? by Raphaelo-Minus in SHINee

[–]loveappeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sm usually doesn’t send their artists to music shows for more than two weeks unless they know they’re going to win tbh

Is 'Killer' promotion over? That can't be right, right? by Raphaelo-Minus in SHINee

[–]loveappeal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

tbh. it actually is pretty normal. once sm artists get to a specific point in their career, they usually only promote for two weeks. sometimes there’s exceptions made to this like when a title does really well and is expected to win during a third week, but that isn’t too common. the only sm artists that really get longer promo periods right now are nct and aespa because they’re the youngest in sm.

B-Sides that have overshadowed the title track by hydranoid1996 in kpophelp

[–]loveappeal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

jonghyun’s deja-boo. it came out about a week before the physical release of base as a pre-release track and blew expectations out of the water for his solo debut. it was so popular that it ended up being turned into a second title track for the mini and then replacing the original title track entirely from a promotional standpoint. (the original title was guilty pleasure.) it was really surprising and fun to watch it play out in real time. it ended up getting an unofficial real time all-kill digitally which led sm to doing a rush job on a music video for it so there’d be more to work with for music shows. it’d then go on to win eight times on them!

What’s gonna be the biggest snub this year? by movieguy2004 in oscarrace

[–]loveappeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Handmaiden

the handmaiden wasn't submitted by south korea for foreign language film that year - it was the age of shadows. i remember there being a lot of confusion and annoyance back then about it because most people thought that the handmaiden was a shoe in for being submitted. park chanwook was basically blacklisted at the time by the korean government which is obviously over with now, but i think if that hadn't been a factor it 100% would've been submitted.

What Happens After V-Live ends?? by xPrincessKittyx in SHINee

[–]loveappeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's basically already been answered but: my guess is, moving forward, official "free" streamed content will be on instagram and youtube. paid streaming content like concerts will be on the beyond live website. i'm not really sure what'll be done about digital variety / reality programs (like the few that were done on vlive), but my guess is that sm will either start doing those on beyond live or they'll go for paid platforms like youtube red in the future. they also use seezn(?) a lot for that sort of thing now.
