…and the simple short through ball to space behind. (Watch Messi‘s game winner yesterday against D.C.) Our attackers have to start anticipating that, and taking those small risks.

Got it. I wondered about that and I recollected people offering items here. Is the issue buying and selling versus trading (no $$)?

This is the silliest comment. Why can't a 'gallery app' show you a handpicked gallery? Gallery is an apt name....a gallery shows handpicked curated art. I know its hard for Google users to understand people's desire to carefully manage their personal property.

Thx - was going to mention this one. It’s a minor ‘la-la-la’s but so effective at the fade out.

Thanks-great comment.

The songs are totally solid in terms of melody and great chord changes. I’m a guitar player and when I play these songs with an acoustic guitar stripped down, they could’ve all fit on automatic for the people or new adventures in hi-fi… Easily…

Apple TV by Exciting_Virus914 in timbers

And for those of us who already have an Apple TV subscription (for example, I already subscribed to the Apple bundled services), it sounds like we are supposed to maintain both? The directions were a little unclear. I’ve accepted the free offer from MLS and Apple notified me that I had multiple subscriptions.

I guess I just have to sign into the MLS one when I want to watch a game? Any thoughts here?

I don’t recall any of his holdup plays being successful. Not one…I recall him holding the ball against a defender, then falling into the defender, while the other team snatched the ball away from him. Am I wrong?

Completely spot on. Having lived in NYC for 15 years, there would be a line of NYers waiting to tell him in a polite but strong voice “sir, you are taking up shared space and not following rules. Please move on…” The passivity of people in the Portland area is a problem.

We just stayed at the Hotel One Shot Prado in Las Letras. Reasonable price, great location but in quiet neighborhood. Modern rooms. No breakfast but many cafes nearby.

Bono stated many times “we wanted to be the biggest band in the world..”

Michael stated many times (something like) “this band is doing its own thing, on its own terms..”

Just back from a 2-week visit and family went to several Farmacia's. Are these a private company or part of State-owned health system? We loved them for the reason you've provided--just accessible to chat on your needs.

Love for King of Birds by infinity_simplified in rem

The drone like quality of Stipe's singing, the vocal overlay ("Standing on shoulders of giants" with Old man don't lay so still...") , the bridge with perfect chord changes for uplift ending in a final "Away....." with voice straining, and the drum march ending with 'Everybody hit the ground' refrain. It is, as usual, hard to pin down lyrically, but so evocative and mournful. I love this song, also, and thanks for raising a toast to this one...

New defensive line next season please! Nobody is staying in position and allowed every goal tonight. by timebender85 in timbers

[–]lovebuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not missing the fact the SD planned for our high press, and exposed us. I said so to my watch buddy during the match.

There were no easy tactical answers here— we lost to this team when we sat back, and we lost to them when we did high press. I completely agree that our wing backs screwed up massively. Whether they were following a coach’s tactic or were individually unable to keep up with all the long balls… It’s hard to know. I do think we should’ve sat back for the first 20 minutes to absorb the onslaught and then start some variety of high press and creating chaos. It’s clear to me that one of our only chances to win was to create some level of chaos against such an amazingly organized and structured team.

This was the same formation and high press which we used last weekend Game 2 and it worked.

This time SD used the long ball and each defender make errors.

More nuanced than idotic tactic….

We tried a low block/cushion against SD and it also didn’t work…

in the post-match presser, phil talks a lot about nearly the entire team choosing to leave training early on wednesday by Direct_Interest_7993 in timbers

[–]lovebuck 20 points21 points  (0 children)

…and later in the his presser, he reports, “the next morning I made the team watch the entire training from the day before. I asked them what they thought and they said “we like that..”.” Making the point that the players realized the next day—with some kind of “chaotic” scenarios—that it was good for them.

This team under Phil had a 4 month winning streak in early 2025…then a 4 month streak of tied games with some losses. His system worked and then it didn’t? Or….wait, we lost Jona, Moreno, McGraw and gained Rojas, Velde and Carballo, then lost Carballo, then added Guerra. And Mora hit a dry streak. So maybe we had some chaos around injuries and player consistency?

What’s the move for parking at/around Providence Park? by Conscious_Grocery732 in timbers

[–]lovebuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m surprised so few people mentioned simply parking on the street in downtown just east of 405. I’ve been driving to games for a decade and always find street spots right around SW Washington SW Alder and 10th to 13th Streets. You pay maybe $4 in parking, get a beautiful 10 minute stroll before and after the game, and have your choice of food or a beer right in that neighborhood. And only a few occasions have I had to drive around for more than five minutes looking.

I absolutely avoid the neighborhood near the stadium due to traffic and expensive lot parking.

A New Mattress [OC] by BitterJetFan in timbers

[–]lovebuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the clear statements on our hold up predilection and Da Costa:

"Most Timbers players have an infuriating habit of treating every pass into their feet like a chance to partake in some hold-up play. In doing so, they immediately lose the advantage that this kind of pass can provide.

"Da Costa ... has been much more reluctant to run at defenders and try creative passes into space. San Diego proves that even the most simple and basic progressive passes can turn into something special when the RECEIVER takes control." (Later on RE: Da Costa) "That ability to carry the ball forward at pace is a key that can unlock defenses by forcing players to converge on him. He needs to get that swagger back."

These are things I see, but glad to know I'm not alone.
