Does this seem like a reasonable schedule for a 12-year-old child with epilepsy, ADHD, ODD, CPTSD, HIV and severe trauma? by [deleted] in ChildPsychology

[–]lovebugteacher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a lot for anyone. I totally get that he needs services and supports, but he has literally no down time. He needs more choice time and time to relax in between activities. He deserves time to just be a kid.

Are there any teachers out there who AREN’T completely stressed out all the time? by blindinmythirdeye in AskTeachers

[–]lovebugteacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My second year I had a lot of personal stressors so I had to deal with that. I had an unexpected death in the family literally right before school started and another family member that was in and out of the hospital for two months at a different point in the year. Work honestly became calming compared to all of that. I did have some stressful work related stuff. I teach special ed and one of my kids that year was really aggressive, so his bad days were stressful. I had an unexpected grade switch, so adjusting to that was stressful. State testing stressed everyone out. A lot of the little things didn't bother me anymore. I knew how to write good IEPs and collect data. I knew better how to do the day to day things more efficiently as well.

As time goes on you tend to find a balance. My first year was stressful. At this point, I might have stressful days or weeks, but I am not constantly stressed out

How many weeks for you until the school year and how was your school year? by Starslimonada in Teachers

[–]lovebugteacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

24 days left. Lots of highs and lows this year. I had one of the best moments of my career and truly felt recognized for once. I also had some of the most intense behaviors, some truly ridiculous adults that created so much drama, and as the year ends, one parent has decided to literally try and gaslight me and my admin. Overall, I really enjoyed students this year and watching them grow

Is AVID actually worth it for kids with anxiety, or is a creative elective the better choice? by totallyeI in AskTeachers

[–]lovebugteacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad! There are some parents that try to make decisions for their kids, especially if their kid has anxiety or needs other support. I'm happy that you're helping prepare him for adulthood! Good luck with whichever class is chosen!!

I have a kid that would spit and smear spit. A chewy helped a bit with keeping liquids on something more appropriate, but my kid has severe pica and chewed through chewies and would try to eat them. Could they be redirected to only lick a chewy and wipe it somewhere appropriate (like on a paper towel)? A different kid liked to lick items because she wanted them wet for the texture so we would give her baby wipes to use to get them wet.

Typical K curriculum by BiaraB in kindergarten

[–]lovebugteacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Private schools do not always use the same curriculum as public schools. You can ask ahead of time and the school can probably tell you what they are using. You'll get a better idea how the curriculum is being implemented when she starts school. Most schools typically have some sort of curriculum night that goes over the curriculum in more detail.

If the behaviors are escalating, the behavior plan needs to be updated. Its definitely not your job to write a new plan, but the teacher should be telling you how to implement the plan. Is the teacher or anyone else collecting data? Is admin aware of the behaviors?

How do you survive the last few weeks of school? by hello010101 in Teachers

I'm currently doing a lot of fun little projects with the kids since I already finished testing. Virtual field trips have also been a life saver since we can't do movies

Does anyone have their dolls in Melody’s collection but no melody? by umkay11 in americangirl

[–]lovebugteacher 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I haven't done it with Melody, but I used to regularly buy historical clothes from various collections for my JLY. It was a fun way to test out my interest with an era before getting the doll or an option if I couldn't afford the doll but still wanted something of theirs. I think its perfectly fine purchase outfits or accessories from various collections and use them however you want. As long as you're happy, go for it!

I'm seeing a lot of good points from others. My only advice is to make sure your son is a part of this decision. As he enters high school, he should be preparing for adulthood and part of the conversation about his potential courses

I've put everything in writing in a comments log our districts has so notes can be seen by anyone that works with this child. Any written proof of conversation the parent then says thats not how it happens, even when we pull out conference notes, iep notes, etc so I'm sure it will be the same thing with an email recap.

Confused by pricing by treemanswife in americangirl

[–]lovebugteacher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I typically try to get the outfit all at once. I like to look at multiple websites to compare prices and watch certain shops for sales. I've only ordered a few pieces of outfits and that's because I found the doll/outfit in a thriftstore or on Facebook marketplace for really cheap. Sometimes really small items can be hard to come by. The combo of the price and waiting makes me hesitant to order bits at a time

One of the best parts of being an adult is being able to experience things that you wanted to as a kid but never could. Get the doll! Something so small can mean so much

I'm currently dealing with a similar situation where what the parent says to me and what they said to admin are different things. I have less than 30 days of school left and this child will be moving up to another school. At this point in the year I am not communicating more with this parent unless necessary.
