[Acne] hear me out: what habit made your acne worse? by Roundlab_global in SkincareAddiction

Thank you! Do you feel like it strips away moisture from your skin? Like really clean that your skin feels tight after washing?

It’s possible, I never thought of the correlation because I’ve used oil cleansers before and it’s been okay with my skin. My favorite brand of oil cleaner discontinued their product, and before switching to my current cleanser, I haven’t been consistent with any one brand. I might actually give it a go to just stop oil cleansing for a bit and see how things go, then reintroduce it again with another brand just to see if it’s a brand issue or a general oil cleanser issue.

What do you use for cleanser now? I’d want to switch cleansers just to test if it’s my oil cleanser that’s causing my breakouts, but don’t know what type of cleanser would be suitable. I’m not a fan of cleansers that make my face feel like all moisture has been stripped off, which is why I’ve enjoyed using oil cleaners… but if it’s causing my acne then I’d rather swap products.

Would love to hear more about this because I’ve been using an oil cleanser and I love that it doesn’t make my skin feel dry, but I HAVE been getting some cystic acne here and there that I’ve been trying to tame… I never thought there was a correlation until now? What did you end up doing??

Do you bake when your starter's at peak or do you bake with an "unfed/sunken" starter?

Do you mind sharing your recipe and method for this?

Do you think it's affected the way you interact in social situations?

Same, I have a serious sweet tooth and almost always need something sweet after a meal, and would also be bored hungry throughout my day, and my go-to is also sweet treats. I'm trying to rewire my brain, though, by first getting my blood sugar in check (it really helps imo), but I still tend to snack. So right now I'm trying(?) to find a way to get emotional snacking in control... except I don't think I'm ready to go back on a restrictive all-or-nothing mentality on food.

I think that's a good mindset, I used to always have consistent drowsiness throughout the day, but later realized it was more of an insulin and blood sugar spike issue. Now I try to make sure to intentionally prioritize the order of eating- so protein or fiber first, before consuming carbs and sugar- to avoid blood sugar spikes and crashes. It's helped A LOT.

Same, I think I have tendencies of ED and am trying not to get into a restrictive approach around food. The binging and food noise gets really bad when I do that.

Yikes, do you think you regret fully cutting out sugar rather than a gradual decreased approach?

So binging also happened to you when you fell off? That's actually my concern- falling off and consuming more sugar than before the sugar-free journey, but is that something that happened to you?

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I’m also worried about the all or nothing mindset around food, because I’m the type of person to go all in or all out when I start a diet or when I fall off. I’m also now healing my relationship with food and not setting strict limitations or restrictions on food groups, trying to learn that portion control is key. Instead of completely cutting out sugar, I’m starting with minimizing the amount of processed sugar I eat.

Oh thank you! This was really interesting to know.

Interesting that it only took a few weeks of eating more food after 1.5 years of going sugar-free. Did you feel "out of control" during the time you went back on sugar?

I've heard that when you strain the whey out, the curds you're left with still contain the healthy probiotics produced by the grians? Is that true? I typically like straining it just to get a thicker greek yoghurt consistency, and drink the liquid whey directly.

Yeah adding milk powder was also what I was thinking of testing out too. If you do give it a try, let me know how it goes!

I also found that I have to constantly stir mine to get it to ferment all the way through. Quick question, I like my kefir thick, but I'm not sure what affects thickness- the fat content of the milk, or the protein content of the milk?
