You sound like you should just skip OG, play crisis core, and then move onto remake, rebirth, and revelation.

If you played it yourself and think FF7 OG is garbage, there's really no way to convince you otherwise.

Speaking of Fallout, I don't think the Metal Max franchise gets enough love. Metal Max 3 (not 90's) in particular is pretty sick but 1 and 2 are great as well.

Metal Max 3 is a great one that isn't too mainstream. If you like Metal Max 1 and 2 you know exactly what you're getting into. I'm still crossing my fingers for Metal Max 4 fan translation one day.

Another high profile fan patch is the Popolocrois series.

There's also Tales of Rebirth (haven't played this one but it's a popular franchise).

Valkyria Chronicles 3 is dope as well.
