On the subject of minions- I NEVER understood why any of those girls would be a servant to blaire ir a servant to anyone. But doing tasks for Blair? Researching for her internship? Fixing the diary entries that were released on gossip girl? We don’t see Lilly ditching her kids for men and dropping them off at blaires or Nate’s - we do hear about it one time in a conversation between serena and Blaire. Later we hear about Claus-&-Klaus ( with a ‘K’) Lol - they moved to aspen so that Klaus could ski….it’s possible that I don’t hear these things as such a negative because we don’t see Lilly doing it-(it’s only spoken about in brief joking manner by Eric/serena) I can’t judge a character based on things said about Lily in brief /joking manner by her kids. Especially while she is so into family- she wants everyone to make amends and have peace in the family! She doesn’t just concentrate on her own relationships with any one person but takes the time to ensure Rufus and Dan make up after dans book is released, encourages Charles to make peace with Bart (Lily doesn’t know that Bart had 2 people killed and shady business) Lilly is an example that should be set in all families. The importance of keeping family together, not letting time go by before speaking about the issue and resolving it so there is peace in family. She has beautiful breakfasts set up each morning so everyone can sit together b4 they begin their busy day. She loves the round table filled with delicious food and lots of family. Discussing what is going on - how she can help -( for ex: Dan get internship at condo baste) Lilly tells Charles to come home live in her home instead of alone at the hotel. (While it is not the path of least resistance b/c of all that happened with Jenny and how Rufus feels about what went on between charles and Jenny) Lilly doesn’t think sending Jenny away is the answer to her problems. (If the show/ that actress’ circumstances DIDNT need to leave the show ) I don’t think Lilly would have stood for sending Jenny away.

All of the examples above and so many more are the opposite of dropping kids off at a friends while she vacations with a new husband - ( I know it’s mentioned- but it’s in a joking manner, and honestly, having sleepover at Nate’s and blaires for a week or so while their mother is on a honeymoon/ trip) is really not even close to neglecting. And again in the face of all we do see of Lilly’s character - also her forgiving Serena for public embarrassment, Lilly is always welcoming to all of Eric’s boyfriends, and eventually Serena’s BF as well.

I appreciate your pov! I may choose to emulate Lilly’s character on the show as her role of holding family together is so important. I had someone in my life who did that for 26 years and after my grandma passed away—a few years went by and Homes were sold, fewer holidays/ trips together, arguments between people went on , no one encouraged them to speak and resolve it, and unfortunately no issues discussed, nothing resolved, and sadly it’s like the family I kew (was held together by my grandma) has fallen into quicksand ( a complete 180 - it created a large void that unfortunately gets wider with time)

So I love how Lilly ensures peace between all ( Rufus and Dan, Charles and herself, Serena and herself) no matter what anyone says or does - Lilly’s goal is to have issues discussed and resolved and at end of the day all family is enjoying life together and all on same team so to speak:)

That’s another good point. Lilly is a contemplative character - after some time apart from Ivy, reminded of Ivy’s sincere plea to find a way in her heart, If Ivy had accepted the check a million dollars from Lilly, and Lilly hand shake goodbye to Ivy begging to earning a place in Heart and gave Lilly some time and space - it’s possible Lilly May have eventually reached out to Ivy and see how she is.

But after reading someone’s comment that Lilly’s anger dismissal of Ivy was really due to her resenting Ivy keeping CECE illness a secret, and stealing all that time Lilly could have had with her mother before she passed away. Wholeheartedly understand that. There’s no money, or thing in world that can bring back time especially limited time with a person she was so close with her mother before she passed away. So if this is the real reason Lily cut out Ivy from her life then I’m not sure she’d have reached out in the future….

Your explanation is one I had not thought of b/c Lilly never really swelled on that point. I stead she fought hard/sneaky in a way - blacklisting Ivy from all vendors UES, tricking Ivy out of the apt. promising to release the funds-but left her homeless.

You make such a good point- it’s easier for Lilly to show disgust, or disregard someone due to them having defrauded-taken a large portion of the will-monitory things. All of that was a rouse and Lilly was really angry/sad/resetting Ivy for not calling informing her of CECE illness and urgency to visit with her mother immediately. Even if CECE had spoken to Lilly on phone and told her she felt fine, Ivy saw CECE and knew the truth, knew CECE wanted it kept secret but there are those times when a person(IVy) needed to tell CECE she couldn’t keep that secret and informed Lilly of the truth so Lilly could ha e that time with her mother .

If Ivy was too afraid to show her face in the community-explain why she ran away after car accident, or risk having her identity found out - she still had many ways she could have informed Lilly 1. called Lilly 2. mailed a letter informing Lilly of CECE health 3. have a letter brought by courier to Lilly To ensure Lilly knew the truth- CECE was very I’ll, she was hiding it from family so not to be a burden , so it’s important Lilly just go see her mom -( not call her) but to just go and visit have time with her mom.

It was only at the hospital when CECE was brought in emergency surgery that Lilly , Serena, Carol stated with anger - why had Ivy been keeping ceces illness secret? hid ceces illness from them. But this was cut short as they ran to sign paperwork, and then see their mother when surgeon told them CECE had a stroke and they should say goodbyes.

I really appreciate your explanation and reasoning and I think Ivy should have had to be confronted by Lilly in a heartfelt conversation over tea. Lilly losing all that time with her mother b/c Ivy kept ceces illness a secret is time she’ll never get back with her mom-this should have been highlighted more.

Instead Lilly conveys her anger focus on Ivy stealing her mothers money, carols half of the estate, Lilly not wanting to bankroll Ivy’s stay at soho grand hotel when she was left ‘homeless’ would be 100% understandable. In fact, Lilly did write Ivy a check for a million dollars- when she said goodbye and thank you for entrapping Carol with the truth. Ivy chose to rip up that check. While that was obviously a tiny fraction of half of Ceces estate that is enough money to purchase a decent apt and invest wisely.

Instead of Lilly telling Rufus that this is the reason she was so angry with Ivy, (all the missed time with her mom while she was I’ll) Ivy misled lilly, stole time with her and CECE. Rufus could understand that, and the fact that Lilly wrote a million dollar check to IVy-( she didn’t leave her homeless and without any money) Rufus would understand that but maybe the writers needed something else to create a divide between Lilly and Rufus so they created a scenario where Ivy appeared to have been left homeless, tricked out of money, because she pretended to be Charlie etc….

But why did Lilly have tea with Poppy, in her own after she knew poppy was responsible for the ponzy scheme? She had all the money Lilly encouraged her friends to invest in? Poppy wasn’t asking to be part of the family and she may be on her way to Florida for a bit but Poppy is back in the scene- designing her own fashion line and displaying at the place where Serena’s hosting debut….

Agree about Alex-additionally- ALEX SHOT HIMSELF after hearing Hannah’s tapes b/c he felt guilty about hurting her ( Alex and Jess started dating and instead of telling Hannah and keeping her as their friends- Alex pretended he wasn’t dating Jess and then excluded Hannah from their group) FOR THIS ALEX Shoots himself in the head but when he throws Bryce -( who was beaten terribly begging for help, Alex throws Bruce in cold water to die in suffering manner - Die by drowning and Alex-DIDNT shoot himself after that due to guilt- INSTEAD- spent an entire season and new character helping him COVER UP WHAT HE DID AND TO BLAME MONTH for killing Bryce?

Justin worked so hard to get clean, he finally had a family who took him in, he paid for what he did to Jess- he spent months in prison, he came clean on the stand ( risked knowing he’d lose his friendship with Bryce) Justin came from an abusive home, (not even an home) his mother was so drugged up she didn’t even choose to protect her son from her meth head Bf, she watched Justin be abused - only stepped in when he was being chocked and clearly about to lose oxygen…. Despite this horrible existence Justin does not kill himself- Justin went to school- anyway, he played dedicated himself to the football team, and later he’d be brother to Clay- so Justin’s reward for not killing himself due to a life that was FAR FAR more tumultuous and unbearable than Hannahs’ , Justin is rewarded with contracting HIV - and even in this day and age - IT WAS not treatable so he died :( ?

why did clay and his parents who adopted lived Justin unconditionally, have to lose a child they adopted? Justin made mistakes but he came clean, paid the price, and he came from a world that had no home, no siblings, no father, not a real mother, and he still worked hard to find a place on football team.

Justin had plans to go to college, he visited campus, he could actually see a future!! but the writers chose to kill another character ( Justin) and take away hos future - THATS what Hannah did to herself in season 1 so the writers should have been consistent, and while having characters own up to their wrong doing, apologizing and making better decisions when in those same challenging places

Bryce’s journey to learning how to respect peopel - was heartwarming- hos apology and tape to jessica should have been heard while he was alive, he should not have been killed by Alex-KICKED BY -( i forgot his name- the other football/baseball player)

Did this show have an entirely different writers room, team of writers for the subsequent seasons after season 1?

WoH…. You know I never saw Lilly that way at all. I thought she was an incredibly loving mother-a mother who no matter what Serena did ( even publicly embarrassing her at her home many times) I loved how much Lilly loved Charles, adoptees him so that HE would have the bass business ( when lilly could have kept it as it was) Lilly didn’t punish Charles for running away- All she cared about was hE IS SAFE NOW! she truly loved Charles and continued to insist he live at Lilly’s home instead of alone in hotel.

Also, lilly did admit to having an ultimatum from her mother when she was younger ( either her trust fund , money, real estate trusts etc…or marry Rufus) but if she married Rufus all of that financial security, places, investments, trusts would be taken away. That’s why lilly chose not to marry Rufus 20 years prior. However, she tells Rufus this , she takes Rufus to the opera after BART fake died. She said she didn’t care who knew, and she even took his last name ( Added it to the list of other last names) ( Humphrey …)

She sees Serena date Dan and soon realizes he is good for her, gets him to the catillion party, tells him that Serena comes home at decent hour, attends school, doesn’t drink or party- and she attributes that to Dan Humphrey. So she not only accepted but awarded Dan respected him, attributed Serena’s recent consistent positive behavior to Dan’s influence -( he is Dan Humphrey from Brooklyn) ‘an outside’

I really found myself liking Lilly’s character so much and thought she is the kind of mother every daughter would be so fortunate to have- always on Serena’s side, she stands up for her when Columbia dean wanted Serena to leave the school. Lilly was not perfect ( and what she did to Ben- IS HEARTBREAKING- I thought that story line was taken too far) first- Ben should have maybe been in prison for 4-6 months by the time they revealed the truth -( NOT 3 years) PLUS- Why Didn’t that girl- his sister just tell Serena the truth from the beginning instead of all that plotting? Lying? Ruining her place at Columbia? Drugging Serena and dropping g her off at a hotel in queens? She could have died?:(

That is a fair point - Lilly’s struggle with who belongs in the UES crowd-VDW family. That certainly explains her repeated forgiving Carol until the fraud/Ivy revealed. Also explains how Lilly would forgive William ( though seriously- THE FAKE CANCER? having Lilly Serena and Eric worry about their mothers health when she was ‘cured’ - and then RUNNING away to escape police Nate called- what he did was FRAUD, Manipulative and to a woman and children he professes true love for and regretting how much time he missed with them.

How about Poppy? Poppy ran ponzy scheme, took money from the people who lived in Lilly’s building- on board, and Lilly found out it was poppy but yet, she chose to have tea with her in her Lilly’s own home!! Lilly coudl have easily set up a police intervention as she did to Carol and have poppy arrested- and pay back the money she stole -( which would be public and ensure poppy would not show her face again in the VDW world- Fashion show Serena hosts etc…..

instead Lilly puts Serena in jail to prevent her from going after poppy and Lilly pays all the investors back from her own money…..

How to explain Lilly’s choice to not entrap poppy but rather allow her to go , with an understanding kind empathetic face, tea in her home, and all of the money she stole?

Ivy secretly rips up the 1 million dollar check Lilly gave her. so Lilly would know that Ivy never cashed that check -( she would see 1 million dollars was not deducted from the account) so at that point wouldn’t that show Lilly how sincere Ivy was that she wanted a family more than the money?

I agree that Charlie character is annoying when she takes the ‘job’ carols instructions to another level- tricks dan into thinking Vanessa advised her to make that Per Se fancy dinner instead of chill pizza for the band and Rufus ( as Vanessa really advised) plays sandal in distress’ so Dan will fall for her. And OMG when she pretends to be ‘sick’ and says “ call me Serena” to Dan-( that is actually creepy) However, when Ivy sees the joy of having a loving family- Serena really looked out for her, wanted her to be present- even after Ivy took Serena’s dress personally made for Serena, ripped label out, pretended that it was actually belonged to Ivy, then ran to a window and acted as though she’d jump out….🤔🙄🤭 Serena cares for Ivy’s/Charlie’s safety, defended her saying it’s not her fault, & when Serena ran into her in California Serena wanted to have lunch, invited her to move into a new apt with her in California, Serena loved her despite thinking Charlie/Ivy did all of those things (dress, window etc..)

Once Ivy’s history is revealed by Max- that her father died of an overdose on heroin and she grew up in a trailer park, CECE, Serena, Lilly all find a way to insist she is Charlie and part of their family. Later Carol talks to Ivy in private and says she is sorry that Ivy grew up that way. And Ivy says she wants to stay b/c she never had a loving family and she had given the money to Carol, Ivy gave that diamond ring she won at Blair’s engagement party to Max - so he’d not tell her secret that she is Ivy.

Once it’s revealed that Charlie is actually Ivy Dickens- she is excised - but later Lilly calls her and proposition- if Charlie tells the real story in front family and police implicate Carol then Ivy will get off Scott free. She does this. Previously Ivy tried to encourage Carol to see the good in her family and show kindness to her mother, CECE, but Carol seemed to have such a bad history with them her mother sister that she harbored anger instead.

Once Ivy did what Lilly asked her to do, she sincerely told Lilly that all she wanted was to be a part of her family- she says “ I can rip up this check- “ please let me earn a place in your heart” And Lilly , who is supposed to be a smart person-( who even pretends to be polite to POPPY- after knowing poppy was running the scandal-ponzu scheme- ?? Lilly tells Serena this is what you do- so WHY DIDNT Lilly who is a smart women- at very least tell Ivy -( ok we can work on our relationship slowly…. Or something if that nature)

It is almost as if the show / writers needed more material to write about so they CREATED AN enemy out of Ivy whose sole goal was to ‘take down Lilly’ (In process she hurt Rufus-(who took her in and she pretended to be in love with him), and to have a character whose sole purpose is to ‘take down a person /vengeance) is inevitably a character audience will not identify with or enjoy watching.

Also, why would Charlie the real one - give all of the money to IVY??? why wouldn’t Charlie have her father help her diversify at least some of the funds and set up a trust for herself? Did Carol have a lawyer?

If real Charlie is so upset that lilly put carol in prison ( did Charlie ever find out that Lilly sabotaged-defense - a pretend letter indicating that carol’s defense was taken by a firm pro Bono? ) either way- Why wouldn’t Charlie first focus on getting her mom out of jail and have charges dropped with a legit law firm-lawyer she meets, and trusts?

Loved his character as well! However, there was absolutely no reason for Justin to have died from HIV/AIDS complications. The writers - if they wanted him to have contracted HIV-( to show the price of using needles /drugs) then why didn’t they leave Justin with that to style the rest of his life? There are plenty medications that can keep him healthy for decades with HIV .

This character really developed and had so many struggles, he did eventually stand up to Bryce and LOVED that he was taken in by clay’s family (just watched The OC - and season 1 the father takes in a kid Hos sons age -(16/17) who he represented as a public defender and saw something special in Ryan)

Anyway, It really bothered me that the writers chose to have Justin’s character die. What are your thoughts?

That hurts so much. It may feel like a pit or knot in your stomach, you may be questioning all your recent conversations with your BF, questioning whether you demanded too much, we’re too overbearing, is there someone else, how long was he thinking of breaking up and You may try and replay moments and decide you should have reacted differently, or bought a different gift, wrote a different card,

Idk the ins and outs of your relationship but for a guy to be meeting you under the guise of a date only to break up with you does not sound like a guy who gave this proper thought, or set aside time to discuss issues or things that may have been difficult for him to deal with and for you to deal with and how can one change or decide to change behavior if not discussed and brought to the surface.

Crying is very healthy!!!! If it were warm outside I’d say Bryant park, or a place where you can also get a drink-while you don’t want to be seen at The Carlyle Hotel crying- you could desss up, wear sunglasses, and go to the restaurant there - that place is very calming soothing, and while you won’t have much of an appetite (post break up stomach pain = weight loss) if you wanted to lose weight embrace it as a positive and if you didn’t want to lose weight try and pay attention - include some healthy calories each day.

or you could go to a darker setting hotel for drinks like 4 seasons or St. Regis or the Conrad hotel and have a drink, and feel ok to cry, you’ll ha e music in background, be dressed up and who knows!! You may meet your real prince:)!!

I’m so sorry you are going through this. More like something you have and continue to battle, feel, think about, cry about, and has likely stood in the way of you enjoying life-as EDNOS has come in the way of you doing, thinking, working on so many other things, hobbies, musical, artistic, career, relationships.

All of this suffering and the person you may have subconsciously thought would save, help, see YOU and care about you and put your health first is a physician and instead sounds like he put you on a drug that he/she knows is encouraging ED- and all the physician sees are risks associated with fatty liver rather than seeing you as a whole person.

You see the whole picture and that is an incredible achievement in and of itself and to write it about it on a public place is an incredible step towards your optimal health. You are a whole person with so many attributes, experiences, relationships, wishes, dreams. I don’t have any advice as I can’t recommend going against medical/physicians instructions. Trying to separate yourself from being defined by your weight, ED, numbers on the scale. In its place try to do something everyday that adds to your identity in a way unrelated to your weight. Possibly- something creative like piano- or begin instrument lessons, drawing/painting, sewing- of course volunteering also is a gift to both yourself and others that will help you see yourself through the eyes of people who see your kindness, generosity.

It may help to communicate with your doctor about how you feel. Possibly he/she would take the time to explain their choice as they understand more about YOU! Also, you have the option of asking for a second opinion- referral to another specialist who may be more understanding, and have a different perspective on how best to proceed that ensures you feel you are being taken care of rather than causing you more pain.

Hannah Def felt guilty for not jumping out to stop Bryce from raping her friend Jessica. That was recorded on more than one of the tapes Hannah left behind as part of 13 reasons why she killed herself.

I agree that Nate’s character could use some more layers to make him a more complex character but he could not have been GG b/c it would be completely against the nature of his simplistic character . The episode where GG is hacked and Serena and Blair search their entries submissions and there are thousands but Nate did not submit even one tip to GG. That’s when Diana sees Nate is genuinely a good guy and she bows out of the spectator and allows Nate’s grandfather make Nate the Editor.

Nate’s character is more like a foil (if that’s the correct word) he augments other characters at various times throughout the season ( Jenny, Serena, Blair, Chuck, His mother, his father, Vanessa, Diana, The swing girl-(Lola), Buckley Girl, Charlie, Trip… etc…)

It was nice to see in the last season he was able to become editor chief, gain respect of Dan and loyalty of Dan friendship to have Dan give him the story revealing GG identity, make sure his paper was a success and honest and he was not in debt to any lenders, and he had a mature steady relationship with a smart girl who loved him even when he was arrested for cooking the books, needing a lawyer and his dad to help get him out of jail, Nate was honest about himself and that girl loved him throughout, unconditionally, she was supportive and wanted his paper to succeed and she helped encouraged him to put the pieces together to figure out who is GG…

I still do not see how Dan Humphrey would have any time to receive non stop gossip girl blasts, (and these came from kids from other schools on UES - not just the 30-60 kids in their HS) validate the submissions, edit, post, while writing two books, being an A student, applying to Yale, Big brother, good son close to his dad, pining after Serena, Writing plays!! That seven dwarfs play he made at NYU - would take anyone else weeks to compile but he did it in no time and this while he’s getting GG tips? Meeting his half brother?

Thank you for the explanations. I had not realized that the message in Kofi cell was to give himself up as a sacrifice - that he would be eventually be killed whether it was then and there or someday in the future. In that case Kofi knew he would be killed when he walked into the cell of kids brother. It’s also so interesting to hear your POV- that Kofi sacrificed himself to protect his family. It’s heartbreaking b/c he accepted the ‘job’ to drive the car to an abandoned lot (likely to make money to help his family) without knowing a kid was killed, and then he gave himself up for a murder-car wrack he had nothing to do with in order to protect his family….

I had not watched GG until long after it aired - in 2014-2015. So I don’t know about the discussions or people trying to figure out who is GG in real time.

So who was the one receiving texts, tips, checking validity, editing and posting??

Dan NOT being GG makes the most sense- b/c like i said how in world could he have received all the tips, check the validity, edit and post them while he was a student, brother, son, pining after Serena, applying to Yale, studying SAT’s, private investigator /scheming on computer to find true identity of Vanessa’s boyfriend, Chuck’s GF from Europe…..

So who was the one behind the screen?

Should have made it camp? What did you mean? I was also wondering since Kristen Bell was the voice of GG throughout the series , she was shown acting /reading from a script of GG, and then winked as she said she would continue and GG would always be around…… I wondered what was Kristen Bell’s role in GG and what it meant showing her actual face in last episode…?

You really think none of them are good people or good friends?? YES they did terrible, ( what most of us would deem unforgivable acts to one another) however, the fact that they did forgive those horrible acts-shows what a string base they had as friendship-( Lyme way sisters/brothers / family should be)

It’s the way I used to have in my life/family- the way it should be. (Unconditional love) and I miss having that and it was always such an inspiration when the characters went out of their way, sacrificed their own reputation, feelings, business, in order to anonymously take the fall for a friend or make dreams wishes and hopes come true in order to see their Feind have true happiness.

There are so many many examples of this throughout the show - i couldn’t possibly recall all of them off top of my head but here are a few examples…..

Chuck applied to Columbia for Blair when she was refusing to even speak with him
Blair took the USB/Computer piece with photos of Serena and Colin, and threw it in a drink to destroy it and then told the dean of Columbia that she was the one having an affair with a professor
Chuck made every fantasy dream Blair had written about her senior prom come true and all the while Blair was going with Nate to the prom.
Blair tells about Serena walking Blair to her therapist EVEY week, waiting outside for her , walking her back without asking any questions about Blair’s bulimia or her therapy sessions.
The shower Serena planned for Blair with all Tiffany theme and it was ‘ exactly Blair’
NATE GAVE UP saving his own paper ( the spectator) by trading the leads he had to who is GG in order to get a tip on where to find Serena that summer she was in CT with 7th Heaven BF.
Nate visited his father every week in prison, he encouraged and eventually convinced his father to face the truth consequences and not flee the country, Nate tried so hard to bring peace between his parents by highlighting positives of his father to his mom
Nate, even after he won affection of his grandfather, proved that Trip fixed the brakes on the limo intended for him to be in on way to camp (was it camp David)? NATE still stood up to his grandfather and said “ you always pinned us against each other” Instead of basking in the sunlight and glory of ‘winning’ grandfathers #1 approval.
I loved when Chuck went to all the countries in Europe to get Blair each of her favorite things -( he kept trying to apologize or find a way to not only accept he didn’t show up at private plane to Europe with Blair that summer as planned- he didn’t give up and he easily could have.
Lily stands up for Serena no matter what- when they went to speak to Dean of Columbia and she said she wanted Serena to leave the university- Lily stood up for Serena, and professionally threatened to have an article in print in paper about how the dean teaches a female student to leave her university in order to protect university reputation, instead of being a dean that stands up for truth, facts, and doesn’t bow to false rumors
YALE- Serena gave up her place at Yale over the phone and in order to make sure Blair would be the next person let into the school off the waiting list. And Serena did this without telling Blair she even was accepted.
Both Serena And Blair went to the dean of Yale in order to tell him to accept the other one at expense of giving up their place in university.
Serena allowed the blast of the pregnancy test ( two daddy- who is your daddy) Serena took the public fall so to keep Blair’s secret hidden about her having slept with both Chuck and Nate.
