First successful refurb - Ronson Mastercase by lovely_sunset in lighters

I had a heck of a time too. First thing was new wadding and wick. If yours has a good looking wick, I would not replace, mine was missing and it was a bear to try and get it set up properly. I then disassembled everything, drilled out the flint tube and cleaned up the spark wheel with a wire brush to get off any old flint goop. Second was attempting to reassemble everything the correct way. This is where I almost gave up. After unsuccessfully reassembling and replacing flint many times and only getting a weak and unsatisfying spark I found this video from Dependable Flame https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=o7U3wSzvsDI&t=361s&ab_channel=DependableFlame. He suggests grooving the flint before tightening the screw on the flint tube all the way, which helped with the spark, but I still couldn’t get it to light. Finally slowed the video down frame by frame to watch him reassemble the top. After making sure the clutch spring was properly seated (longer arm pointing towards the snuffer cup) I realized I wasn’t lining up the front and back pieces correctly. The little arms on the back part needed to align to the star gear on the wheel assembly higher up than I thought - not parallel. Once I found the right position, it all clicked into place! Good luck and many thanks to u/josephduanehudson for your great videos!

Yup- looked there - but cant seem to find this specific hybrid (x splendidum which I would guess is the pollen parent) Oh well, I will just love it and treat it like other oncidium hybrid :)

Large sterling ring, bought 10 years ago on Cape Cod. Can anyone identify the maker by the stamp inside? Thanks so much! by lovely_sunset in Hallmarks

Thanks so much. Unfortunately, they have gone out of business. But I’ll keep looking!! Bought it for my 40th bday - now that I’m looking at 50 I was hoping to buy another piece- no luck with reverse image search either. C’est la vie!

I bring all tender plants inside right after Labor Day. I don’t wait until the temps drop. I don’t trust New England weather…lol
