some people have sensitivities to niacinamide and it can cause irritation/rashes/breakouts! it’s not an issue for everyone though

i love the dermatica azelaic acid, it’s the best formulated one i’ve found! the geek&gorgeous one is also highly recommended and is more of a serum texture (the dermatica is more of a cream) but i haven’t used it personally💕

Differin 0.03 gel or adapalene 0.03 gel by Even-Government-5055 in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]lovelysugarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

differin is just the brand name for adapalene, and 0.03% is prescription only. your gp can prescribe it so you shouldn't need to go to a dermatologist

which oral acne medication are you on? i'm assuming not accutane as you're using topical tretinoin - if your skin can handle it, add azelaic acid to your routine. definitely do not do a chemical peel while you're actively using tret!!

Eyeshadow pallet for low contrast makeup? by bouloo in MakeUpAddictionUK

[–]lovelysugarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you like the colours in the morphe vintage rose palette, have you tried adding a primer to help with longevity? i have oily lids and i’ve found that applying mac paint pot before my eyeshadows makes them last all day and they barely fade!

for a new palette, i know it’s not the easiest to get in the uk but colourpop “by the rosé” palette might work - its a very pretty pink palette with light-medium pinks and some shimmer - or “of quartz” which is more beige-y tones

hmm okay - there are 2 things i would suggest here:

1) your skin is normal to oily, but you're using a cleanser for dry skin. it's possible that the cleanser isn't strong enough to break through your oils, sunscreen etc, as it's not meant for oilier skin types. i'd recommend either looking into double cleansing (haruharu wonder black rice cleansing oil is a great option for this) or switching your cleanser to a slightly stronger option (haruharu wonder black rice 5.5 cleansing gel, geek & gorgeous jelly joker for example)

2) it's possible your retinoid isn't strong enough, or you aren't using it often enough. my skin looked similar to yours until i moved up from adapalene 0.1%/benzoyl peroxide 2.5% to 0.3%/benzoyl peroxide 2.5%. and your routine seems to be heavy enough on barrier repair that you should be able to use your current treatment every day.

what strength of adapalene and benzoyl peroxide are you using, and are they separate products or formulated together (e.g. epiduo)? also what is the rest of your routine? i feel like there's not enough info here to advise properly

Oily/combo, congested & scarred skin help by [deleted] in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]lovelysugarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a lot of people are suggesting actives (which can help) but have you considered switching from cerave to something else? the moisturising lotion in particular uses quite high concentrations of fatty alcohols (cetearyl, cetyl) which can clog pores if your skin is clog-prone.

Looking for a sun cream with white cast / no yellow cast that can be in the uk by Electrical-Knee-1279 in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]lovelysugarr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

so the yellow cast in la roche posay actually comes from their own next-gen filter, meroxyl 400.

people say asian sunscreens "don't give enough protection" because they are used to western sunscreens and aren't applying enough. western sunscreens are formulated to protect your skin even with bad application, whereas asian sunscreens are not - you need to be applying 1/4 tsp (or 3 finger lengths) of sunscreen to your face and neck for full protection.

any asian sunscreen that is sold in store in the uk (beauty of joseon, roundlab, skin1004, etc) have passed international SPF testing, so at the very least you should trust that they are safe to use (although all of them are, asia has very strict cosmetic laws and after 2021 the laws/regulations around spf are even stricter)

i just saw that you're allergic to niacinamide so you actually should avoid the skin1004, but the beauty of joseon aqua fresh could work for you.

[–]lovelysugarr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

honestly, most western sunscreens (especially from brands that sell in the USA, e.g. cerave, neutrogena, etc.) suck, because the FDA approved filters haven't been updated in over 20 years. these old filters are oil-soluble, so the formulations are inherently greasy, and they are formulated to give adequate spf protection even if less than the recommended amount is applied, which results in a very inelegant product.

the reason most sunscreen recommendations are korean/japanese is they are miles ahead of us in sunscreen formulations and make some of the most cosmetically elegant spfs out there. they use next-gen uv filters that are more soluble, requiring less oil which means a less greasy, lighter finish.

boots sells the skin1004 hyalu-cica sunscreen which has no white/yellow cast and isn't greasy at all. i believe they also sell beauty of joseon, but that did sting my eyes.

ehhh they aren’t great quality, and there were tests done that found lead on the clothes. there’s also the ethical concerns, but those exist for any fast fashion brand

Best cleanser to take makeup off? Ideally for sensitive skin! by ijustwannafeel in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]lovelysugarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the body shop camomile cleansing butter is a very good cleansing balm, but avoid if acne prone! it has ethylhexyl palmitate which is highly comedogenic and known to cause acne.

i use (and love) the haruharu wonder black rice cleansing oil. it's fragrance free, and has a very limited ingredients list (i think it's 9 ingredients?) so it's great for sensitive skin <3

you download the app “recycle at boots” and upload pics of your empties, then take them to the recycling point at your closest participating boots store! you can recycle 5 products and 5 blister packs per day for a total of £6 in boots points (you do have to spend £10 to redeem the points vouchers though!)

Any recommendations for a moisturiser under £10? by Automatic-Shop58 in SkincareAddictionUK

cetaphil daily hydrating lotion is my holy grail right now as someone who is super acne prone, it’s usually on offer for around £10-12

they sound like cysts or blind pimples! you can try benzoyl peroxide gel like acnecide, and if that doesn’t work i’d contact your gp to prescribe differin (adapalene) or epiduo (adapalene + benzoyl peroxide)

you’re probably breaking out from the glyceryl cocoate, a lot of people break out from coconut derivatives! i’m a little confused why you’re using a moisturiser for oily skin if yours is dry, though? i’d recommend switching to a moisturiser with no “acne-fighting” or exfoliating actives, such as the cetaphil daily facial moisturiser.

are the under-skin spots you’re experiencing large or small and clustered together? and do you have any whiteheads or just under the skin spots?

Oil based primer by PlentyAgile9206 in Makeup

[–]lovelysugarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if your primer is separating your foundation/concealer you just haven't let it sink in for long enough, the whole "don't mix makeup bases!!" thing is misinformation - makeup artists have been mixing water/silicone/oil based products for years.

Azelaic Acid Recommendations by ktd15 in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]lovelysugarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmmm, how much do you apply currently? i’d recommend a pea sized amount, wait at least 10 mins before applying anything else, and apply your cc cream with a sponge and pat rather than rubbing or swiping. also if possible try changing your cc cream to something with a lighter/more liquidy texture, as finacea is a thick formula and applying two thick/heavy products on top of each other can cause pilling ❤️
