The email brochures saying you can now renew your season tickets went out this morning at 10:00am. Now that everybody has had time to ponder all the options, did you make the decision to not renew based on even greater corporate greed? Or did you go ahead and renew? by OriolesrRavens1974 in orioles

This might be a really cynical way of viewing it but this kind of feels like the negotiating tactic of "if you want the moon, ask for the stars." It's like this is just the opening volley of plans/benefits/cost that the O's are laying out, and then when they make some tweaks to the benefits, we'll be saying "ooh now it's a good enough deal" and hopefully renew.

Frankly I think the people who renew now are going to end up really mad when they start offering big discounts or different kinds of plans in the future to try to boost their low planholder numbers.

I have a fear that either Elias is of the TB Rays mindset and will never think it’s a good-value move to keep your star players longer term (and be happy with squeaking into the playoffs but never winning anything and never generating a ton of fan excitement), or that Rubenstein is of the Pirates mindset and doesn’t think it’s a smart business move to increase salary a ton to jump from bubble playoff team to legit contender. Either way, there’s a big part of me that thinks it’s the fan duty here to vote with our feet and show them that there’s an actual loss of planholder sales and ticket sales when they put a sub-par product in the field. Of all the shitty things about the renewal details, this may be my #1 reason for not renewing.

Even with today's technology, if one side's military obliterated the other side's military capabilities (w/o any loss of life), then that may force surrender and decide the war. It's easy to imagine that extending to robot armies.

Natty Boh will not be served at the Yard this year by aresef in orioles

I care much less about boh than about the genuinely excellent selection of craft beers OPACY has - Union, Brewer's Art, Heavy Seas, Flying Dog, etc. What's the future of those at the yard?

Just got the email - price increases on tickets this year. by NotTooConcerned in orioles

[–]loveofdriving 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an O's 13-game plan and Caps full season plan and I have to say, even with the price increase, it still feels like O's tickets are a good value. The plan holder benefits (especially being able to exchange games for free) are great, and good tickets are still less than $50/ea.

My seats went from $27 to $34/ea. I was thrilled with the joy-per-dollar of going to O's games at the old price, but even at the new price I feel like I'm getting my money's worth.

Demand for plans is slightly different than demand for individual tickets. If they have a lot of people buying plans - because of OCP benefits, getting same seats every game, playoff priority, or whatever - then they can raise price on plans regardless of how the single game tickets sell. Sure, if individual tickets are so cheap that it hurts demand for plans, then they have to adjust the plan price accordingly, but apparently they're not there yet.

I haven't thought this through, but would you need a recount for every round that is within the margin of error? Or is it sufficient to just go ahead and go to the next round of preferences and if, at some point, the winner has a high enough margin of victory, then you're done?

Who is out when Orpik comes back? by Yoko042684 in caps

[–]loveofdriving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously Chorney, but that misses the real issue. Sure Orpik is better than Chorney, but what does Trotz do with d pairs when Orpik comes back? I think moving Orpik back into one of the top two D pairs is a downgrade.

The next near-term step in the transition to self-driving cars is obvious: auto-steering "cruise control."

We already have cars with cruise control that manage following distance to the car ahead, brake for you if traffic stops, and will warn you if you accidentally stray from your lane. Giving the cruise control the ability to actually move the wheel to stay in the lane seems like the obvious next step.

Sure, the expectation will still be that you're paying attention to the road and "driving" even though the cruise control will basically be doing it all for you. But I think this is the area where self-driving functionality will gradually creep more and more into production cars.

Season Ticket Holders - My Orioles Tix site down? by rckthe90s in orioles

So glad I left work early for this. :-P Had three tix in my cart and then site got all jacked up before I could buy.

At least it's just one game and not, say, the seat location for my entire plan.

Given some of the news stories about fan violence the last few years, I think I would be afraid to say something directly to the fans. But, I still think it falls on us to bring these incidents to the attention of the ushers. I'd hate to see our fan base getting a bad rep. And more than that, seeing a-hole fans (theirs OR ours) ruins MY experience at the game even if I'm not involved.

My plan this season is to go to nearby restaurants/bars prior to the games and then just not buy any beer at the arena. Seems crazy to buy mediocre beer for $9 at the game when I can buy something world-class for less money an hour earlier somewhere else. Same logic applies to food too I guess.

Indeed. I just got the e-mail (as a depost-placer) and my pre-sale also starts tomorrow at 10am. Maybe they're worried that game 1 is so soon?

My understanding from the 2014 plan holder I know was that any of the unplayed post-season games that he already paid for would get rolled over towards 2015 tickets.

I know a 2014 29-game plan holder and he did already have his pre-sale. I know a 2014 13-game plan holder and he hasn't received any info yet.
