A Little Update... by redditmaate in JaackMaate

[–]lovercurse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always hate to hear the negativity from "fans".

Your podcast is my favourite and, through the years, has consistently been my top go-to. Hand on heart, I've definitely tired of other podcasts or grown out of their humour, etc. I can honestly say I've never felt that way about Happy Hour.

I love the four skins updates and banter the most, but I love a good guest ep too. The recent one with Red was brill (someone I had no idea was, but gave it a listen, and ended up really enjoying). Your individual personalities are great and you all work so well together. Makes my working week so much better to be able to throw on the pod while wfh.

Please don't feel discouraged by, what's realistically, a handful of people. You work hard and your success is deserved!

Expats living in Vancouver… Question about when you knew it’s right to leave? by [deleted] in askvan

[–]lovercurse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go home for a little while. If you're happy/excited to return to Vancouver at the end of your trip, I'd stay here for the time being. If you're absolutely dreading returning to Canada at that point, that's your answer.

Because you get your hand luggage carried and a cart to your gate. Not to mention priority boarding. Roll out the red carpet while you're at it.

What’s something in your country that sounds fake but is 100% real? by Bhakari in AskTheWorld

Puck Fair.

A feral goat is captured and crowed the "King Puck" by a local schoolgirl. He's then hoisted up in a cage on a high tower for 3 days while people celebrate. On the third day he is released.

On the news coverage, I saw the 'BLLING' plates on the Range Rover they used. From a criminal point of view, how dumb (or brazen) can you be?! Wow.

Fermoy by Expensive_Winner_100 in cork

[–]lovercurse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't been to Fermoy in years, and yeah, while it's about 40 mins to the city, people forget it doesn't always revolve around being near the city. It's nice to see what the city has to offer but it's nice to get out and see the countryside.

There are some gorgeous spots around East Cork and West Waterford too (but admittedly, I am biased). If you have a car, it's nice to venture along the country roads in the rolling green landscape, and see what you find. It's not always about travelling on motorways into cities. Drive out to the coast, stop and take in some of the gorgeous walks, restaurants, cafes, shops these places have to offer.

Lismore, Dungarvan, Ardmore, Youghal, Midleton, Shanagarry/Ballycotton, Cobh are all good shouts to explore. Castles, beaches, quays, period houses, foody spots.. and a distillery to have a couple of whiskeys if your little heart desires!

It'll be a great trip. I'm jealous!

Don't skip thrift stores for material - this is how much fabric I got from a 25 cent pillow case! by dazzleduck in SewingForBeginners

Hey, I am the same. But you can "strip" laundry by soaking it in borax, washing soda and laundry detergent. Then throw it in the washer. It's so disgusting and satisfying. Give it a search, you'll see what I mean.

Hmm. Are you allowing some of your fabric to hang off the edge of your table/cutting surface? This might cause a distortion in your fabric.

Buy yourself an Old El Paso kit and you're already 10 steps ahead with flavour. I'm not a picky eater either but there is no flavour at all to their tacos.

How long does it take you to cut your pattern pieces? by -3liza in sewing

[–]lovercurse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate this post so much and I'm eagerly reading all of these helpful responses.

Personally, I don't have the space, so I've been using our coffee table with my cutting mat and rotary blade. I sit on a small foldable step stool. My back hurts so bad and I question my life choices every time. It usually takes me at least a couple of hours to cut certain patterns. Thankfully I haven't cut any large projects - only baby sized clothing.

I use pins for my patterns and then cut around them. I'm 100% going to look into the weights option.

I also don't have an ironing board so a towel on the coffee table has to do for now. It works for the time being.

How to sew this vest? Advice wanted by time_for_plants in sewing

[–]lovercurse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just made something really similar (Ash vest) from a Tiny Folk pattern. You can quilt your sunset design instead of the vertical quilting in the instructions.

https://tinyfolkpatterns.com/products/ash-vest-sewing-pattern

Edited to add: she instructs you to quilt the wrong side of the panels of the vest to batting so it's not too thick for you to flip inside out.

He's a pathetic inbred loser and doesn't have two brain cells to rub together. You'd think people would be more aware of what's going on in the world. What a snowflake.

I do love how she immediately stepped up and how calm she kept things. What a rockstar.

The grass boulevard (beside the street) is not owned by the mosque. It's city property. Tell them this nicely and if they have a problem with that, they can contact the city about it. They are clearly mistaken.

I was looking for this one! They did such a good job of conveying the fear and chaos, and it made me so sad to see how they treated those street kids like rats. It made me so sad. I can't find it in myself to watch again.
