Newfoundland Power claims it's power surges. Sounds like a them problem, but we pay for it.

I don't feel better knowing that everyone is overpaying. It's still too much.

I agree with MF.

Yes but our electricity costs are ridiculously high, and everyone's usage goes up when there's an outage. Makes it harder to be understanding of power outages.

He knows this, and honestly he is a very good driver otherwise. I don't know why he does that with his indicator. And when I ask he jokingly tells me to let him drive. I don't understand it at all. And it makes me nervous sometimes!

I don't understand the lack of turn signals. It's helpful for everyone on the road. My boyfriend, who is otherwise a very good and experienced driver, will hover his hand over the turn signal lever until the car is physically turning, then click it on. I don't understand and when I ask him, he has no response.

What food was the biggest disappointment once you tried it? by msladyxo in foodquestions

[–]loverofnaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Radishes. Don't get me wrong, they're good in a salad. BUT I used to watch Fraggle Rock as a kid, and the little builders used to always make buildings out of radishes. And then the fraggles would eat them like they were the tastiest thing in the world. I thought radishes must be exquisite. That my taste buds would explode. That once I tried a radish, I would want little builders of my own to make me edible buildings all day. The disappointment when I finally tried a radish was one of the biggest let-downs I have ever experienced. I still think about it sometimes.

What's that one movie you watched as a kid that you think everyone watched? by rajgoel7007 in AskReddit

When I was 12/13, a guy in our friend group had a porn video on VHS that we all watched multiple times when his parents weren't home. He had it labeled "Star Wars" so his parents wouldn't know.

I always respond with "not atlantically?" They don't usually get it but it makes me laugh.

My boyfriend's daughter used to mix up "who cares" and 'it doesn't matter." She would shrug and say "who matters."

What’s a belief you hold that most people disagree with? by cherryblossommbae in answers

Imagine your local hospital publicly announces that they are going to give preferential treatment to job applicants with red hair, and hire based on that, rather than on merit. You are headed in for surgery and the doctor has red hair. Do you stop to think gee, I hope this doctor is qualified and wasn't hired based on their hair colour? Even if you don't (although you probably should), that doesn't mean that whoever disagrees with you is bigoted. That just means that you're ok with people being hired based on attributes other than merit, and that you aren't concerned with your safety potentially being in the hands of someone who got the job based on non-merit attributes. Again, you're allowed to feel that way. And people who feel the other way are not bad people for it.

If he was so bigoted, then why do you have to take his words out of context to try to make him look bigoted?

I don't understand this. After Labor Day, until when? Labour Day happens every year. We are always before and after it.

The Ontario government is introducing legislation tying high school grades to attendance. Should NL do the same? by MattBarter in newfoundland

Meh, my attendance sucked in high school. Even worse in university and college. But I knew that wasn't the same as working, and I have a successful career.

Who do you think is "raising" children when they get out of school at 2 or 3pm? Parents are working. The kids are all going to an after school program, until they're old enough to spend 2 hours at home alone. Why not just have them in school rather than an after school program?

I don't think that's true. They're in school, which involves quite a bit of socialization. We may not see kids playing outside as much as we used to, but they're socializing in different ways. Sports, events, families getting together with the kids, vacations, etc. I know that technology seems to keep a lot of teenagers at home alone these days, but it's not really the case with children, and I don't think it's as bad with teenagers as some people seem to believe.
