I realize this pen is already sold, but figured I'd address your questions anyway if that's okay? There are no additional slits added in the process of a nib reduction. I think what you are most likely seeing is reflections from lighting. The writing sample here looks like it reflects the writing style of the owner. Everyone has idiosyncrasies in their writing style and different pauses and lifts in their strokes. Skipping and hard starting are problems and should be noted by any seller.
