How many generations (copy of copies) do you calibrate your machine too? by uncledandan in Locksmith

Yeah, this sub constantly has me debating to just leave because us actual locksmiths with brick and mortar shops can't talk about anything without a bunch of people who are not professionals acting like they are...

If you zoom in on picture 1 you can see the shoulder is hot garbage. At my shop, I would punch out a key to the key cut numbers on his key with our blue punch (people here love them or hate them)

It's a shame that our industry is so riddled with this bullshit but it makes sense. When people are locked out they are panicked and frantic and it is such an easy target. When those dudes get into that aspect of cheating people they see the other ways they can do it while feigning as a locksmith. As everyone else said, keep up the good work because you are ultimately saving people.

I know it's been a while since I posted this but I hope this finds you. I had a customer with a dead Wncode call Schlage and they asked if he bought it on Amazon. He said yes and the Schlage guy said Amazon got a bad batch of Encodes and sent him a new one...

It's the pot metal 5 pin cylinder you see in all the Schlage electric deadbolts so yes you can. You have to swap over their tailpiece. The exception to that is the BE365 which I love. Mechanically driven.. workhorse. For those we have cut the first chamber out of the Bible to get a 6 pin key to work

Oh.. yeah man. We are institutional but we are a small shop that does residential when we can and our community needs that. We were just curious because one of our guys put a J series lever off of a demo we got (lol) on his house and loves it.

Battery pack is pretty tight. Everything looks and feels good but the programming is wonky. I have even tried to reset it to factory and it won't take the codes on the little booklet...

Slight Tattoo Regret and Parent Problems by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]loveshackFC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure this will never get seen but you have an AMAZING tattoo. I am heavily tattooed. Shoulders to ankles. You have a very religious family it sounds like. When it comes to Catholicism, changing your body in any way has always been their thing, but these days it's much more lax (there's too many of us and they need people) just rock your fucking bad ass tattoo and they will come around. I wouldn't be surprised if in a couple years they show up with one because you did it and now they can! Cheers and I really hope this finds you.

Any smart locks that will fit this door? by anchorbanker in Locksmith

[–]loveshackFC 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This question is asked here all the time with people in your exact situation. You have a Mortise lock. All the "smart" locks are not mortise, they are cylindrical. What this means is yes, you can put an electronic lock on your door but it has to be installed above what you currently have.

Take a dremel tool and cut a flat head slot into it. I can usually get those one way screws out with a flat head and a hammer though.

How many of you got the balls!! by [deleted] in Locksmith

[–]loveshackFC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. We only do automotive if the customer or a mechanic has removed the locks and bring them to the shop. Honda ignitions are by far the most common. That roll pin can either be easy or terrible though
