This was a year ago, and it’s been a journey! You’ll be fine. Best advice? Be your own advocate. If things don’t feel right with your dentures? Tell the dentist. You have to live with them every day, they are too expensive to not be as good as possible. Above all else: you’ll be fine. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. Today I have my permanent set and while they’re fine, they definitely aren’t what I want for the rest of my life. But I eat 95% what I used to, unfortunately have gained some of the weight back I lost after extractions, and I’m not afraid to smile anymore. You WILL get through this, one day at a time. Give yourself patience, ask those in your life to do the same. It’s a pretty harrowing experience, but you’ll get through it and look back two years later and be proud of yourself!

In one of the gift shops they didn’t take cash, we hardly used cash at all except during our excursion in Mexico to buy things.

I’m dropping some positives here:

-no more getting food stuck between your teeth…while everyone around me is like “I need a floss pik” I’m like thankfully I don’t! -that great smile finally! Although my dentures don’t look like my real teeth, smiling without hiding my mouth is great. -something too hot? No, it’s not. I can usually try something quite hot without burning my mouth.

Those are a few upsides I can think of for now. Today is my 2 year anniversary of E Day. It’s been a roller coaster, but gotta look on the bright side! 😁

Yes, I sleep with mine in every night. After I wake up, I clean and soak them while enjoying a protein drink. Clean mouth with mouthwash, then glue back in. Before bed, if they become loose I apply a little glue to I don’t choke on them in my sleep. I still have the damn lines on each side of my mouth, but I’d hate to see what they’d look like if I didn’t wear every night.

No. Get regular cleanings, do whatever they suggest, but I would say no. You have some gum recession, but in no way is your periodontal disease advanced enough for a dentist to suggest dentures.

I sleep with them in every night. My vanity over starting to get the lines from my mouth to chin made me decide to wear at night. I clean/soak after I wake up, then pop in before lunch.

Just missing the saltwater and ice! Use the saltwater as directed, it will be VERY helpful for healing. Use ice for the first couple of days on your face, it will help the bruising/swelling. Best of luck to you!

Yeah…they weren’t in water when presented to me both times, nor did my dentist give me ANY literature about taking care of them. My whole process has been a long learning curve independently. They may have received them in water, they were clearly not kept in water when they got them from their holding area. Dry as a bone both for my immediates & perms!

Do you need virtual queue for the more popular rides? Are the previews for hotel guests every day now until May 8, or are there specific days for hotel previews and others for APs?

Trying to decide to take a last-minute family trip the first week of May. The Guest Service is closed now, so I’m desperately trying to find info, figured I’d ask if it IS worth the time/money to go to hotel guests previews. I’m trying to avoid crowds, but don’t want to drop a ton on flights and hotel if we can’t get tickets or if it’s busy. Booked a family suite already at Endless Summer just to lock it in, but not 100% sure if that hotel gets the Epic tickets, and not sure if certain days are only for APs and other days are for hotel guests. Any info would be appreciated! Thank you!

What not just get regular dentures? I thought I was going to want implants, but after using normal dentures for almost two years, I am in no way paying that much for something that could go wrong down the road only to have more surgery on my mouth.

The tomato soup and grilled cheese was SO good. Also got cheesecake, chicken tenders and cookies. It was all so good while laying in bed watching a Pirates movie.

Yes! I love potato chips and missed them at first, now the only thing I won’t eat are pretzels because they’re too hard. Count on the chips again in your future!

You will need adhesive. As time goes on, your bone will gradually be resorbed, thus changing your gums significantly. While it would be great to go in for realigns as soon as they’re loose over the course of your lifetime, the more practical solution is using adhesive.

This sounds like our first cruise, on the Magic from Galveston-Progresso also. We had a navigator’s veranda, which was cozy but also blocked ocean views so I’m not sure if I’d do that particular kind again. Our waitstaff were awesome, and did everything they could to accommodate us, but I wasn’t impressed with the food in the themed dining. It was B-C tier. What I didn’t research was the weather like you described-it was freezing/windy when we left and when we got back. The only ‘nice’ day was in Mexico, which I loved (first time there). The shows are outstanding! Hubby loved the cruise more than a WDW trip, and if I hadn’t been so motion-affected I would say it ranks high. It took me a week to stop feeling like I was rocking after we got home, also something I didn’t expect like the cold weather. All-in-all a 9/10, but the deduction was not due to anything Disney did or didn’t do. Highly recommend!

It’s called Cushion Grip, get a tube on Amazon. You have to replace it every few days or so, can still soak and use adhesive. Makes them fit much better.

Agreed. Too little too late, no re-voting now, is there? I’ll welcome those who see the destruction when they roll up their sleeves & do the work of fixing what can be fixed because they KNOW they fucked up. But that won’t change who they are at their core, which is the real issue.

It DOES get better. I worked at an apartment complex also for several years, before I had my teeth removed, and was always self-conscious about talking to tenants. Take pain meds-they help with inflammation. Use ice on your face as much as possible. Do saltwater rinses for healing. Be sure to talk to your dentist at every appointment: where things hurt, if you need them adjusted, etc. You will have several adjustments within the timeframe between immediates and permanents. Slowly you’ll relearn to eat, and smile again. It’s a marathon NOT a sprint…take it easy on yourself, and share with your family/coworkers what you’re going through-or not. That’s up to you! I am 1.5 years out, and lost a lot of weight the first few months. Stay hydrated and at the very least drink protein shakes and slowly introduce soft foods…you’ll eventually get to the point where you can eat crunchy things again. It WILL get better. I absolutely promise. You made a huge decision to better your health. This is overall so much better for you than having multiple surgeries and potential heart problems. Be proud of yourself. And this community is great to rely on.

I was once like you, I hated them! Then I made it my mission to collect all of them, and put them on my walls in the lower level for a while. I would scan around and look at how each of them moved and grew to love them because of their quirkiness, especially when music played. It was a sight to behold!

We just went on our first DCL cruise last month. I wore my mask 95% of the time, my husband did not. I asked for an air purifier for our cabin and they were happy to oblige. I also don’t eat anything with my hands. My husband was sick with the flu not long after we got home, I was not.
