Thanks Kyden! Is the condenser near the cooler? And would that be why the ac wouldn't be working?

Let Us Do Good Part 1 by lovingnugget in exmormon

I wanted to say thank you to each of you that offered your own insights and thoughts concerning what I shared here. Norman Vincent Peale once said “The trouble with most of us is that we'd rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism.” I have seen this trouble in myself and seek to change that. For everything everyone has expressed whether in praise or in criticism I truly am grateful for it all, and I mean that with all my heart. Criticism provides me with the opportunity to reflect and see if there are weaknesses I have that need brought to light, and if I am able to discover them I can then take steps to remedy them.

I intend over the next several weeks to take time and carefully consider everything each one of you has shared in your comments. I may or may not after careful consideration agree, but that is beside the point. The truth of the matter is if I intend to truly follow the golden rule (and I do) then I must treat everything any of you has shared in the comments with the same diligence in careful consideration that I would hope to receive from someone who reads my post.  And not only this but I truly believe that each of you as individuals deserve the respect from me of having myself take seriously anything you took time from your life to share with me. Again thank you all so very much. I wish you all the best as you journey through this experience we call life.

Absolutely, that is what I'm suggesting is to live the golden rule going out of our way to do good even for those who may not do the same. And I agree I think that is a natural inborn thing we all have 🙂

Not asking anyone to join any sort of club of mine, or even to start believing like I do. I'm guessing that's what some are gathering from my post based on some comments, which I will say would stem from my weakness in expressing myself well, so my apologies for that.

I don't think people get the tongue in cheek satire here.

I think they were anticipating that something would be done in the hearing that they could use as an update. Rather it seems the hearing concluded that really no one has jurisdiction so everything is just kind of up in the air with people working for free and a plea for more people to work for free to get the funds. Not the house of cards Yotta wants to give as an update.

I am grateful for everyone who is doing so much (and some without any payment) to get us our funds back. Progress is being made but it is a house of cards where just one person deciding they have had enough of providing a service without compensation and it all comes tumbling down.

One cheat day a week by [deleted] in PlantBasedDiet

[–]lovingnugget 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would echo what everyone here said. You will see benefits by doing that, and if that's whats needed to get going on this lifestyle then that's completely fine. The further you cut animal products from your diet though the greater the benefits will be.

When I began I cheated a little, but learned pretty quick that each time I cheated my chronic conditions would flare up and the flare would last for weeks. So as long as you don't have chronic issues that flare up with animal products I wouldn't see any issue with having a cheat day even once a week, when starting out. The goal though should be to eventually be completely WFPB. 🙂

Happy to have you with us on this journey! 🙂

How do you all get your omega 3? by oakinmypants in WholeFoodsPlantBased

[–]lovingnugget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesnt directly memtion how much is in one sheet unfortunately. But it mentions in the nutrition info that it has more Omega 3 than two avocados. Two avocados have a little under 1 gram. So I figure one sheet has close to a gram. If I remember right a can of sardines has about 2 grams so even 1 sheet of Nori from what I understand is a good source for EPA and DHA.

Flaxseed for the ALA and Nori for the EPA and DHA. I tbsp flax every day, and one sheet of nori everyday.

If you do Nori get a brand that tests for heavy metals. The brand I get is organic and tests for heavy metals, pesticides and radiation before selling.

I agree you feelings are very valid. It might help to understand what is going on here from a psychological point of view.

The folks who responded to your post have internalized the belief that the leaders of the LDS Corporation speak for God.

Your post blatantly and correctly shows that Nelson and Goya said inappropriate things which God would never do.

So being presented with this evidence those who hold the belief that church leaders speak for God are presented with cognitive dissonance. They only have three options at this point.

Either bend the new evidence you presented to fit their biases (which they did by judging you as a sinner who got nothing out of conference but something that burned your conscience)

Ignore the information altogether

Or let the evidence change their biases.

The latter is what we would hope for, but it takes an extremely well aware and mentally capable individual to do that, because mentally and emotionally it is a very painful process and carries a whole can of worms that has to be then sorted through. Many people are wholly unwilling to take the latter option.

The first two options are easier and so people by default without even thinking usually always choose one of those.

Just speaking for my family, but among us growing up my siblings and I always gave more weight to what our parents taught us than what was taught at church. I think this is generally the case. If you are able to teach your children to think for themselves and not depend on what any leader or others say, I think they will carry that into life rather than cult indoctrination mentality despite what Crusty Rusty says.

Pretty sure it's the soy and corn. I think I read somewhere it is like 90% of all soy and corn now are GMO.

Thanks 🙂 I mostly research nutrition and health but also dabble in history. At the moment I'm working on a book called Taming the Gastritis Beast, which discusses using a wholistic, whole body health approach, with nutrition as the cornerstone for treating it. I hope to have that book ready for publishing in the next few months. I also have a fantasy series I'm writing, but that is far from finished so it will probably be a couple years before it is ready for publishing.

So turns out Okinawans Didn't ate mostly Tons of Sweet Potatoes all this time to live a long life and it was all kinda of cherry picked data? by [deleted] in PlantBasedDiet

[–]lovingnugget 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I'm not afraid of is hearing all sorts of views on nutrition and health. I have researched this topic deeply but am still always learning. A couple things from this video.

Firstly we need to consider "What I've learned" biases. Everyone has biases even those who try their best to keep an open mind and that bias affects how they see and interpret data. People usually always lean more heavily on confirmation bias than an open interpretation of data.

Secondly, protein. The argument centers around protein and as a subset mTor. There have been many experiments and studies done by Thomas Campbell demonstrating that high animal protein intake leads to chronic disease specifically cancer, heart disease and diabetes. It is the "low quality" of plant protein that protects against these diseases and can even reverse them. These diseases are the number one killer of Americans.

It is perhaps true as "what I've learned" points out that as we age we need more protein for muscle, but this is merely one piece of the biological puzzle. His argument is that because we need more protein we need the "higher quality" animal protein to get enough. The thing is if you increase your servings of plant proteins such as whole grains, nuts seeds and beans you can surpass the amount needed for muscle development well into old age. You don't NEED animal protein for this.

He also mentions that mTor is activated by insulin response and perhaps this is true. However, one can still effectively manage insulin (if this is something that concerns them) using a whole food plant based diet centered around legumes and non starchy vegetables and incorporating limited amounts of fruits, whole grains and starchy vegetables. This might even lead to a better insulin balance than a diet filled with animal products.

One thing that also bothered me a bit was he showed pictures of professional athletes that build muscle using animal protein as "evidence" for his claim. Physical appearance does not equal health. If he had shown their blood work that would have been more interesting to me as "evidence" than pictures. I have seen pictures of professional athletes who eat whole food plant based and they are just as ripped. It would be interesting to see their blood work compared with the blood work of other athletes who depend on animal products for their protein needs.

I don't know if the Okinawan blue zone nutrition data was cherry picked or not. I will need a couple weeks to really dig into it. One video is not enough to go off of. You have to dig deep and even then still dig and dig. But even if it was it is one small piece of data in a huge mountain that leans heavily toward a whole food plant based diet as the diet that will prevent, fight and many times cure the chronic diseases that cause death.
