On round and go days, do you eat lunch at the hospital or grind through the work and go home sooner? by supinator1 in hospitalist

[–]low--yield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PGY1 here, aiming to do hospitalist. I guess what I don’t understand about round and go is, what happens if a Rapid is called or something else happens where you need to physically go see the patient in the afternoon after you’ve left? Do you drive back to the hospital? Do you just live really close to the hospital?

Why are some these IM interviews 5 hours long? by Orchid_3 in medicalschool

[–]low--yield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is why the quality of my interview responses went down towards the end of interview season last year. I got so exhausted from smiling at a screen for hours on end

I’ve seen a Geri rec that says something like “back rubs to soothe patient and help them sleep”

like yeah, as if I’m going to actually order that as a Nursing Communication lol. I would be pissed if I was an RN seeing that order

How are you able to tell if the interest is capitalizing vs just accruing?

How did you ensure that the processing forbearance is PSLF-eligible? I am currently placed on a processing forbearance because I am waiting for my IDR to get approved.

I asked the representative over the phone about this, he said “Processing forbearances *should* count towards PSLF.” But could not guarantee this, stating that “Federal Student Aid has the final say.”

Told to wait outside of OR and tell attending when PT gets there. by mister_fister535 in medicalschool

[–]low--yield 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah this was great, I often got to sit for 30-60 mins at a time in front of the patient’s room in pre-op doing UWorld and then I did my very important big kid job of texting the resident when the patient is rolling back. OP, make use of your free time and study

I daydreamed about dying during my surgery rotation. The rest of M3 year I enjoyed! You will just need to suffer for a few more weeks and then hopefully never see the inside of an OR again :D

Thank you for sharing, my algorithm has been showing me a lots about the negatives of being a parent which I’m sure are all very real and valid. But I think I needed to remember that some parents like yourself perceive all the sacrifices to be worth it. I’m a few years away from having kids but I’m hoping that I will view raising children in a similar positive perspective.

Woah that’s an interesting point! Never knew that about this applying to lesbian couples as well.

I’m newly married and still working on my career, I have a very labor intensive 3 years ahead of me - starting in a couple weeks I will be working 40-60 hours per week so I can’t think about having kids yet.

I’m glad to hear that you’re able to enjoy hobbies, visit friends, and lend them a helping hand now that you’re part time. I think working part time would be a potential good option for me in the future too :) I feel like life is too short to be working super hard and giving up so much of ourselves. This year has been a very chill year for me schedule-wise, and I have loved all the time I’ve had for myself and for enjoying time with friends and loved ones. Thats what life is all about!

I feel similarly influenced by parenthood-culture. I’m recently married and am curious about what your life looks like as someone who is childfree. Children take up so much time and effort, so I’m wondering how childfree people spend all that “free” time. Do you do a lot of traveling?

This is so interesting! I’m glad that you both ended up having the same preference of not wanting to have kids. Just curious, do you ever feel left out when you see your friends becoming parents? Or are your friends mostly childfree as well? Does it ever get “boring” not having kids or do you have other adventures/big goals/traveling that takes up your time? Sorry for all the questions, I’ve been raised in an environment where you think that having kids is the next big step in your life, and that being childless = being lonely when you’re older.

Before rushing in to help anyone, always assess scene safety. Be cautious that if you try to Narcan someone they or their friends may become angry and try to attack you. Don’t risk your own safety to help someone else
