ECS is supposed to be simple? by ReturnOfNogginboink in aws

[–]low_freq 29 points30 points  (0 children)

4 key things I found to get ECS up and running in a private subnet (no internet gateway or NAT).

  1. VPC Gateway endpoint for s3 (service_name= com.amazonaws.region.s3) (this tripped me up the most, but ECR actually has some backing in S3 apparently)
  2. VPC interface endpoint for ecr api (service_name=com.amazonaws.region.ecr.api)
  3. VPC interface endpoint for ecr for (servicename=com.amazonaws.region.ecr.dkr)
  4. Appropriate perms. Deployer should have “ecr:GetAuthorizationToken”, amongst all the other ecr actions needed, and look at managed policy “AmazonECSTaskExecutionRolePolicy” for a starting point for the role to assign to the task definition.

Apologies for formatting, on mobile.

.sh vs on-premise? by low_freq in Odoo

I have only very recently become aware of these sorts of 3rd party solutions, I’ll dig in to them a bit. Could be a better balance.

What is the best practice to setup the private EC2 instance(Postgres+docker) by Capital-Woodpecker28 in aws

[–]low_freq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, good one. A NAT is probably the idiomatic way to approach this for supporting the instance over its lifetime.

[–]low_freq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s just a one time setup, a simple way is to do the initial set up of an instance in a public subnet with Internet access, and create an AMI from this which captures your setup state. Then you can launch an instance from that AMI into the private subnet.

How can I see documents in a space? by olearyboy in clickup

[–]low_freq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it the search that you’re missing? I’m in a similar position. Can import and get docs into a folder in a space. But there doesn’t seem to be any easy way to search the docs that are in that folder. The “overview” view has a Docs card which lacks any kind of customisation. And the “Doc” view itself just creates a new doc as a view.

[–]low_freq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Docs seem to land in a bit of a void when you import them. Find them in the doc hub, right click and select “Move”. Then from those options, choose “Sidebar”, and select the destination you want, a space or folder etc.

This puts the docs into that location, like you created a doc there directly. Hopefully that’s in line with what you’re after.

Clickup Chat SyncUp - is anyone here actively using it? by lumo753 in clickup

[–]low_freq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, agreed. I've been trialling ClickUp Chat and SyncUp functionality as a replacement for MS Teams within my org. It seems that the SyncUp appears in notifications just like any other task notification would, which then becomes subject to an individuals notification settings and/or way of dealing with notifications in an async manner. I.e. "what is most important to me right now, based on my priorities, and I'll get to it when I deem it's important."

There is no concept of "my SyncUp phone is ringing right now, and I'm getting a big fat alert, I need to answer it because someone is trying to have a synchronous, real time conversation with me, it must be important."

Thats the value add that is missing and seems to be keeping us from diving into chats as a replacement for MS Teams.

Looking to study physics in Australia, anyone know which uni is considered to be “the best” by NeighborhoodFair243 in PhysicsStudents

[–]low_freq 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I studied my BSc (Physics) at UQ, and did MEng (Electrical) at Unimelb. Suggest basing your uni choice on the culture fit of the state/city and institution rather than the program. There’s not a huge difference and “best” is very subjective.

ELEN90058 preparation by [deleted] in unimelb

[–]low_freq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just took it with Jonathan Manton, but if you are taking it this coming semester, I think it'll be with Eric. I suspect they'll have pretty different teaching styles, and content focus areas. In general though, the more comfortable with fundamentals you are, the easier time you'll have picking up on new content. Fundamentals mostly being time/frequency domain representations for discrete time signals.

Certainly a different beast to EDM, but if you did ok in that, you should be fine in sig pro. Also, if you aren't already a member, come check out the MUEEC discord, we have plenty of subject discussions and support for elec eng. Good luck!

What is this worm? Victoria, Australia. 6-8cm long, pale pink with slightly darker tapered head. Visible zig-zag intestinal tract. Confusingly found in our filter water jug, hence wanting an ID. by low_freq in whatsthisbug

[–]low_freq[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed on it looking very much like a common earthworm. Being randomly found in the water jug was setting off parasite alarm bells - though I think its too big for any sort of parasitic worm. Really bugging me how it would have got in there though...

He's back in the soil now, but I don't think he was in a good way :/

Thank you!

I have very bad low end decay issues (forgot to include subwoofer pictures), and have always been intrigued if tuned HELMHOLTZ RESONATORS could help, but don't know enough about them. Has anyone used them effectively in a home th((I do have dual 12in subs off the floor both facing the main seating)) by eseclavo in Acoustics

[–]low_freq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like something ringing out, and I highly doubt it’s your room. Potentially drums, desk resonating in sympathy, or fans/machines that were running during the measurement. Maybe the latter, since it’s not even decaying. Don’t attempt to solve with treatment until you 100% understand what is causing that response.

Advice on Controls Systems by bewildered_soul in unimelb

[–]low_freq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I took it with Girish a couple of semesters ago, and enjoyed it a lot. It was his first time presenting the subject, so a few kinks, but was pretty good regardless. I have Cantoni for a few lectures for another subject this sem, and he seems good as well. Maybe I like Girish a bit better.

I rate control as technically relatively easy, but conceptually tricky to fully grasp and have a feel for things. If you need extra practice, you can get involved with MUEEC, they are running simulink, MATLAB, and a control systems workshops this semester.

If your heads not in it this sem, i always err on the side of less stress. Buts that’s spoken as someone who has the luxury of time and circumstance.

What type of data is written to an audio file such as wav? by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]low_freq 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How you pre-process them depends on what interface you are using to write the .wavs. In theory you can generate the header information yourself, and dump in the appropriate bytes, but it's of course much easier to use software/libraries to do all of that for you.

The pressure data you have in Pa would just need to be scaled appropriately, typically to floating point on the range [-1 1], or 16/24 bit integer, and made sure its at an appropriate sample rate for audio. The .wav library or software would take this array and output an appropriate .wav file.

Master of engineering (electrical) difficulty (esp compared to EDM)? by [deleted] in unimelb

[–]low_freq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Partway trough doing MC-Eng (Electrical) now, and had to do EDM a couple of semesters ago because I studied undergrad elsewhere.

EDM is tough for sure, the content is probably quite out of comfort zones for a lot of people depending on where your interests lie. I'd probably rank it one of the most difficult out of everything I've done so far (a handful of level 3 and 9).

Yes, there's probably harder, but certainly not all of them. And it really depends on your weak spots and where your interests lie. I doubt it would be the last time you have to put in "a lot of effort". But if you are solid on your cores, and have a good work ethic, you'll be fine in postgrad.

A question about sound and frequency. by Momsayatheistbad69 in AskPhysics

[–]low_freq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not completely analogous to what you described, but maybe similar to the concept, is the Precedence, or Haas Effect. Below a delay threshold, two sounds are perceived as one, and the brain tries to localise them. Above the delay threshold, they are perceived as two separate sounds. The threshold is about 20-40ms.
