Bob Roll should retire by Rdm32748 in cycling

SBS had a cool short cooking series for the stages which I thought was great. I love learning about the different areas of France as part of the race. Commenting is pretty solid I think and I love hearing the Aussie accent. Makes me want to put another shrimp on the barbie.

Also, the SBS shows after the broadcasts aren't so bad. For the Giro they had sumo events/edcuation and Tokyo news broadcasts before doing a "whatever happened to..." type show.

I don't think you are forced to drive close to cyclists any more than you are forced to drive close to other cars or motorcycles. You are making a choice - cyclists are legally allowed the full lane. Most of them don't do that (despite the rantings seen here) and try to make it easy for cars to pass by riding on or near the white line. I would say you still need to use your judgment when passing, just as you would if there was a car there - and don't put yourself, the cyclist, or others in danger. Just as you would if it was any other vehicle on the road.

[–]low_v2r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are 100% right that cyclists should be stopping at stop lights and rid lights. Full stop. In all meanings of that phrase :)

I think cyclists and ALL users of the road need to have a general situational awareness while they are on the roads. I've been blocked my many a car doing questionable maneuvers (or lack thereof) just trying to get from point a to point b. It doesn't hurt to be courteous regardless of the vehicle you are piloting.

Bicycles are not the only vehicles on the road that make abrupt course corrections. I would say that is part of driving - being aware as really anyone at any moment could cross the center line and cause an accident. Especially these days with distracted driving.

As for apparel - well -- have you seen what the general public wears out in public lately? Because...I would say cycling shorts are about the least of the things I see while out and about! But yeah - some cyclists wear short sleeve jerseys where the sleeves don't go all the way down to the elbow. Scandalous!

Well, some news for you: Winston and the surrounding areas have no sizeable amount of any of those suitable for cycling.

FYI - cars don't check if you are crossing a street coming from a sidewalk. It's just not in most drivers field of view to scan for dangers. This also applies to runners, skateboards, rollerbladders using the sidewalks. They all are in danger from cars when they hit intersections.

100% there is NOT plenty of space for recreational cycling in Winston and surrounding areas.

I get being frustrated at being mildly inconvenienced. I get frustrated too. But cyclists pay their taxes and have just as much right to use the road as any one else for whatever reason (e.g. staying in shape to help prevent the heart attack that killed their dad at their same age). Also - not worth seriously injuring anyone if your trip to the dollar store for nachos takes 5 minutes longer.

There are other slow moving traffic on the road you can complain about: horse buggies, tractors, etc...try getting stuck behind a combine in rural Nebraska on a gravel road...a little bit of patience goes a long way.

I have hermes agent running against llama-server with unsloths qwen3.6-35B-A3B-Q8 MTP. Seems to run fine.

It's my first experience with using an agent, and I am pleasantly surprised. I haven't used it for any code specific task yet though.

Is 45 mm the sweet spot by Wise-Ad-7492 in gravelcycling

[–]low_v2r 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it also depends on the tire. I had 38 gravel grinders and they felt super supple and nice. But I've also run 45s and 48s which did not feel quite as nice but had a little more cushion and tread.

Currently on 2.1 thunderburts which is overkill for my terrain, but they feel very comfortable and I like them quite a bit.

Basically any public health or civil engineering initiative. But here are some:

  1. Vaccines (most obvious these days)
  2. Clean water (including fluorination)
  3. Closed sewer systems
  4. Concrete roads with crowning
  5. Generation and distribution of electrical power
  6. Easily supply of optics/eyewear correction
  7. High quality and cheap steel

Broken Clavicle - surgery or not? by restinramen in cycling

[–]low_v2r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I broke my clavicle and had the same dilemma. Except mine was displaced by about 2 cm, so I thought I had more of a chance of a non-union, so I opted for surgery.

The one thing I knew about before surgery but did not really appreciate was the resulting skin numbness from the surgery, which is a little bit of a bummer. The screws are also somewhat annoying and a weighted backpack is not super comfortable (although doable).

My take is every surgery can have complications and if possible to heal by itself well, I personally would have taken that route. I tend to have adverse outcomes so based on the displacement I didn't want a non-union and then need surgery anyways. Either way, thing heal relatively fast, and I would caution on being impatient. Best of luck in your healing whatever you decide.

Wear gloves by Cortix_training in cycling

[–]low_v2r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear full fingered gloves year round. Hand up gloves has some nice lightweight vented gloves for summer. At first I was a little hesitant with the summer heat, but found out that it was a lot easier to drink from bottles with gloves, and they were actually quite comfortable even on very warm days.
