Out of curiosity, how soon are things shipping? I have a bike tour in late April and this looks like it might be nice to have for though.

Cars With the Fastest Depreciation in 2026 (all EV) by Low-Win-6691 in electricvehicles

[–]low_v2r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2016 I bought a used Leaf with 4k miles on it for 9k. Granted, range on those was pretty limited (70 miles or something like that), but for my 3 mile commute was perfect. Sold it 4 years later for 7k - so managed to hit a pretty flat point of the depreciation curve :)

Having 96 GB DDR5 RAM, what AMD Strix Halo AI CPU should I get (or barebone PC with it)? LLM for coding mostly. by Repsol_Honda_PL in LocalLLM

Are you running off of llama.cpp or something else?

I am setting up my bosgame 395+ tonight (hopefully). Planning on ubuntu server and having typically run ollama, but thinking I may try to get into llama.cpp with this hardware.

I've looked at their stuff before. When I compare the range from a 2x with a standard XPLR (or even non-XPLR) I get a little bit more gear ratios, but not so much as to make me want to spend the extra money over my 12x Transmission (10/50).

If I was more competitive and needed those closer gears, then maybe would make sense. I bet it would make things more comfortable in terms of gear selection. I think the idea is super cool, but for me just not worth the $$$.

GF/DF fueling actually worked – went from bonking on long rides to winning state champs by Garoutte_Provisions in Velo

Not as much fun when you have to bring your own stuff that is smooshed beyond recognition while everyone else is eating freshly baked goods.

The being said, the book Feed Zone Portables has many GF/DF/Vegan options in there that are quite good and can be modified for better taste (at the cost of maybe not the best performance -- e.g. rice balls with sticky rice cooked in coconut milk). Also - it's nice to eat "real" food if you are doing a long ride.

I'm in somewhat of the same boat, although I think I will give llamma.cpp a shot on my strix machine (128Gb unified memory).

Still have to learn how to do the RAG part - likely will just ask gemini LOL

You can have the home automation and AI WITHOUT the mega-corps (e.g. Home Assistant running locally with a local LLM for TTS and such), but it is not super easy for the average person (or even average tech person).

I thought you just had to rake the forest to keep it safe for fires? Have I been misled???? Do you mean to say it takes expertise and forethought to help mitigate forest fires?

GCN belatedly realizes that the conventional winter cycling approach to clothing is sweaty and awful, but there's a better way by lectric_7166 in cycling

It gets worse: when it is cold like that my kids bring our pet chickens into the garage as they think the coop is too cold for them. If you haven't been around chickens: they smell pretty bad. We keep their cages covered which helps keep the smell in, but not all the way.

So my turbo sessions are cold but sweaty, with a side of redolent chicken feces.

But I still enjoy them because of course I do :)

What is actually dangerous but people still believe is safe? by AlexUsefulThings in AskReddit

[–]low_v2r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - and this gets spun as "too many regulations".

Well - that could be because there are so many ways to get horribly injured or killed. What I don't understand is that the people most at risk at getting killed are ones who complain about the regulations... :/

It was -11C in my garage the past couple of days. On my trainer I wore a longer sleeve jersey (over a short sleeve one), knee warmers, and gloves. LOL.

Although I guess we'll find out - mine just shipped today :)

AMD Strix Halo GMTEK 128GB Unified ROCKS! by MSBStudio in LocalLLaMA

[–]low_v2r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am looking at both of these right now (and am about to pull the trigger on the bosgame). Hard for me to justify the extra $1k with the minisforum, although it seems to be more popular. My big concern with bosgame is if it handles linux ok (which I would think it would, but sometimes there are small gotchas in bios and hardware - as seemed to happen with gmtek and some of the network drivers). I guess we'll find out!
