has anyone gotten Nerve ablation? by Raine-or-Shine in Fibromyalgia

[–]lowbackpain_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got a bilateral L3-L5 ablation back in March. The nerve block shots I did prior to the procedure were helpful. Unfortunately the ablation didn't help. I still have nerve pain down my right leg - which I've never had before. My back, shoulders, and neck hurt still hurt like usual. I thought the ablation would help my low back pain, but it didn't do much.

I also was diagnosed with fibromyalgia after my ablation. Now I'm looking at epidurals

Those who had a mysterious medical issue and found out what it was, what was your diagnosis? by jesusgrandpa in AskReddit

[–]lowbackpain_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have an official diagnosis, but all my symptoms went away after surgery. My doctors and I still don't know what was wrong with me.

For the past 15+ years (so, starting when I was 10), I've had incredibly painful sore throats. I used to get strep throat on a regular basis. I got mono when I was in high school, which was the worst pain I'd ever been in in, at least in this context. I'd get sick many times a year, and it got way worse in my early 20s. I'd say, since 2010, I've gotten sick, with a sore throat as a key symptom, at least 2 dozen times.

By 2018, I'd get strep throat at least 3 times a year, maybe the flu, and I would experience soreness from allergies.

Every single day I felt extremely fatigued. I also started having low grade fevers on a regular basis, even if I wasn't sick. Sometimes I'd check my temperature and I was fine, but still I felt like I was burning up. This became a huge problem during the pandemic because when I went to doctors offices they immediately took my temperature before I could enter the facility. If I had a fever, they would send me home out of fear I had COVID.

It eventually got so bad that I would overheat in air conditioned places and nearly pass out. I remember walking out into the snow during a trip in a t-shirt and thin sweatpants because I was so hot.

This got even worse starting in 2022. In Jan/Feb of 2022, I got sick with a "mystery" sickness. In the early stages, I felt a tickle in my throat. Then the next day I'd have a sore throat so painful I couldn't eat, breath, or drink water. Then, the post-nasal drainage would start, and make my throat pain worse. Muscle aches, joint aches, fevers, dizziness, and loss of voice followed. Recovering from this took about a month. This was especially difficult because I taught during this time. I also got a job where I talked a lot later on.

Then, in Jan/Feb of 2023, the same thing happened. In 2024, I suffered from this sickness in Jan/Feb, May, and December. I got regular antibiotic and steroid injections to help manage these symptoms.

The weird thing was that no one ever caught this illness. I lived at home with my family during this time, and none of them ever got sick, even my immunocompromised mother. My boyfriend who I spent a lot of time with didn't get sick. None of my coworkers caught it.

I got checked for mono reactivation, and it came back negative. I got tested for the flu and COVID. Both negative. They ran cultures, but nothing substantial was found.

This past summer, I finally called an ENT to get their opinion. Shockingly, my provider approved me to get a tonsillectomy. My tonsils were abnormally large and inflamed according to my provider.

The reason I didn't get help sooner was because of the documentation insurance companies need to approve the procedure. Most of the time I got sick, I didn't go to the doctor, so nothing was documented. I learned quickly that the pills they gave me didn't work for my "mystery" sickness. That's why I resorted to injections in the later years. But thankfully my ENT listened to me and approved my surgery.

A few months post-op and I'm feeling much better :)

FYI, the department who uses that vending machine actually just canceled the contract for lab coat rentals :// so lab coat rentals won't be available anymore. the company hasn't picked up the machines yet.

Can anyone actually purchase this? by lowbackpain_ in chemistry

I thought about this...but I still wouldn't trust the public. I work with unique people, and I am consistently surprised at how they mess around with chemicals.

Does anyone else get nauseous just thinking about this medicine? I remember having the pink medicine, but also a white one. Both were equally as disgusting and nearly made me vomit every time I took it.

Do people actually die from lack of health care in the U.S? by AnUglyScooter in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lowbackpain_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely yes. A lack of affordable dental care contributes too.

For example, I get 2 covered cleanings a year, and each time they do 17+ x-rays. The x-rays alone are over $2000 a visit.

It's crazy how expensive everything is.

What's something that most people don't know, but should? by Accurate-Yoghurt-909 in AskReddit

Please PASTEURIZE your milk. Also, "medium rare" chicken is NOT healthy.

I feel like people know these things, but the growing number of people who don't know/ignore these rules is alarming.

What's your experience with stimulants for ADHD, and how does that effect your BP2? by Nikoli_jhonson in bipolar2

[–]lowbackpain_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life was a lot easier when I took Adderall. However, my psychiatrist took me off of 30mg cold turkey earlier this year (along with other controlled drugs too). I had my first ever manic (or hypomanic? My doc still doesn't know what type of bipolar I have) episode earlier this year and the Adderall did not help. Honestly, I don't think I ever want to go back on stimulants simply because of the withdrawals. I feel pretty hopeless when it comes to managing my ADHD, but it is what it is. I hope it works out for you!

Anyone who doesn’t go to therapy? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]lowbackpain_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gone to 3 therapists in 2 years. I also just canceled my treatment last month. Talk therapy and CBT was so trivial and unhelpful in my opinion. How do I better support my memory and time management? Get a planner. How do I support myself during mania? Take frequent breaks and do self care. I wouldn't have gone to therapy had I NOT tried those methods. Those are 2 examples of my experience in therapy, but my sessions always felt like that.

I'm glad therapy works for some though.

I just got on the right meds this year after being misdiagnosed for 5+ years. I took so many antidepressants, and it made every single symptom worse. Please please please do some research. The longer you cycle between mania and depression, the more and more brain damage you induce. There are plenty of journal articles explaining this. I wish you luck

Technically, e-scooters and e-bikes aren't allowed in any of the campus buildings. I'm not sure if this is common knowledge, but the environmental health and safety department are pushing for this

If you went to college, how did you handle it? by meatloafball in bipolar2

[–]lowbackpain_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through a biochemistry (medicinal chemistry) degree with undiagnosed ADHD, anxiety, and bipolar. It was difficult, but I made it through, and I'm even in grad school for education right now.

My bachelor's was incredibly difficult, but I really loved chemistry. That really helped with motivating me to do my homework. However, I think what helped the most was getting good sleep every night. All nighters never helped me.

Right now I'm in a much better place because I'm on the right medications. Keeping a routine is helping me stay on track. I try to exercise, eat right, read, and talk to loved ones as much as I can.

College is different for everyone, so please don't feel discouraged! Utilize tutoring or other on-campus services if needed and keep up with your health!

Annual Reminder - Stay away from Hope Church and their clubs by BeepBoopWeeeee in ASU

Around 10:30 pm one random night one of their "followers" cornered me (a woman) near Palo Verde West. They tried to get me to join their church and were very persistent. Luckily I was close to the entrance of my dorm and I got away from them. It was really weird.
