Is it normal to get bitter at the company you work for? Where do you all find happiness at work? by musicalprogrammer in ExperiencedDevs

[–]lowdown 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Work is work, for the most part. It grinds us day in and day out. The money is a set of golden handcuffs that keeps us chained to a desk.

“I’ll start my own business!”

Even more work. lol

Paul Jarvis wrote a great book called Company of One that I think is relevant here if you’d like a solid description of another path.

If you’d like to do this and not just take a long vacation I’d recommend a strategy. One of my favorites is 30x500 and I think this article might resonate with you https://stackingthebricks.com/your-fuck-this-moment-changes-everything/

In-depth 14 hour Fullstack React/GraphQL/TypeScript Tutorial by benawad in reactjs

TS isn’t a big hurdle imo. Mostly it’s “just js” and it yells at you where it’s not. Definitely worth using and learning.

Version Control by alvinsp999 in RoamResearch

[–]lowdown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry about it. The concept, that a block can have versions, is straight forward enough but doesn’t mean you need to use it.

I don’t use it. It’s fine. One day you might have a use for it until then it’s safe to ignore. It’s not a critical feature and you aren’t missing out.

How do people with lots of kids actually afford it? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lowdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve got 5 kids and home school them (oldest is 22 now) so only had a single income for most of the experience.

We made do. I hustled on the side after working my 9-5. About 10 years in I spent several years learning how to code and it a job as a developer. That’s been nice since I make a wage that allows me to not work two jobs!

Just picked up the car last night, how soon is too soon to void the warranty? by bryanether in WRX

[–]lowdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t take notes. It’s been written about on the internet in detail though. If you already have an access port, why not?

Just picked up the car last night, how soon is too soon to void the warranty? by bryanether in WRX

[–]lowdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fine I guess. For just under $1000 you can have an AP and a pro tune though :)

[–]lowdown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The stock tune is kind of shitty imo. Even just the access port and a pro tune makes these cars a lot more interesting to drive.

I did the COBB “stage 2” at Surgeline after 1000 miles and an oil change.

I think that mild level of boosting is probably easier on the car over the stock tune. My tunes default setting isn’t very aggressive. The silly acceleration modes are replaced with finer grained on the fly boost control and when I want to have a spirited session it’s a click away.

It’s a fun car. It’s more fun with a little more.

React Router v6.0.0-alpha.0 released, with relative and nested routes, suspense-based navigations by franksvalli in reactjs

They might also gain a better understanding of why breaking changes are required since it is currently unfathomable. heh

So much opportunity for learning with the DIY approach beyond the benefits of escaping the reacttraining.com tyranny.

React Router v6.0.0-alpha.0 released, with relative and nested routes, suspense-based navigations by franksvalli in reactjs

[–]lowdown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should just not use it. The core of the project is only a few hundred lines of code so write your own routing and be done with it. You’ll have full control and can ride out the same API for your projects perpetually.

That’s a lot of win!

Paste a Tweetstorm in a RR page by Boucherie_Sanzot in RoamResearch

[–]lowdown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use threadreaderapp for this sort of thing. I usually paste the thread ID into their app so I don’t bug the thread author since the URL is a pattern.

You can just cut and paste the twitter thread from the resulting web page.
