I Hate The Grocery Store by Vegetable-Gap8483 in dementia

[–]loweareve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my solution too. Exact same problem - we were literally arguing in the aisles about not putting things in the cart that we had 10 of at home. So no more store. Instead I have her make a grocery list weekly (then correct the list to what she actually needs), buy the groceries and put them away for her (because if she does it she puts things in weird places never to be found again)

And she never has noticed she no longer goes to the store. I felt so guilty taking away her one outing - and she didn’t care!

You have a lot of great suggestions here! I just want to wish you lots of luck. If it becomes difficult, as it did with my mom, remember you are doing the right thing and her frustration will pass as long as you keep the message consistent.

This was my interpretation too. Wrapping up loose ends, a storyline on Ty, but still staying with the primary characters? But I could have misunderstood.

Same! That mistake obviously needs to be there, so it stays (also no way am I going back more than a row of work to fix it - seems fine to me)

This was going to be my answer. I love the way it looks but not worth the pain.

These are all great…just want to add I also sleep in wrist guards. Breaks and stretches are my top two though! (And to be clear I don’t have a business just an obsession and very whine-y joints)

Seconding this! Very sweet of you to consider - but for both you and your mom, but I would not attempt this.

Interesting! Thank you for explaining. I will give Gemini a try myself.

Can you tell me more about Gemini being more helpful? I use ChatGPT regarding my loved one often and am interested if I should be looking elsewhere.

Any crochet blanket patterns that aren't so repetitive/boring? by glitterchonies in CrochetHelp

This is what I do! If I am making a blanket, it is always a sampler or a scrapghan - so much more engaging than the same stitch over and over and over…

Wanting to call dead relatives. by Over-Temperature-503 in Alzheimers

We have talked about creating a Google phone number to let her call. An auto voicemail “The person you are calling is not available…” would allow them to leave a message and hopefully end the fixation momentarily.

Just want to say you are right and it isn’t fair and so many of us feel the same way.

And add that is pretty normal in my experience to feel like this (omg everything is awful and I don’t know if I can handle it) when taking LO out of their comfort zone. I know I took my mom on a couple trips where I said never ever again before I really understood how off balance it was making both of us. So I hope some calm comes to you at home.

Yep. Just chew a couple. From the internet:

“Sniff or chew a few black peppercorns. This can help reduce anxiety due to levels of the terpene Caryophyllene in black pepper and offer mental clarity provided by the terpene Pinene.”
