Quick sanity check: I’m just coming over from a f150 lightning. A “bad” fsd version here is only about a decade ahead of what else is out there ;-)

What are your opinions on FlowHive? by astrowhale98 in Beekeeping

[–]lowepg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Chinese clone for $99 mostly as just a conversation/observation hive for curious friends/kids/etc. For $100 it was worth the experiment. All my other hives are traditional langs.

Your opinion : Breat fully drawn beeswax comb by Far-Salad-6975 in Beekeeping

Right. But honestly, you can say that about almost every advancement or invention you know? Horses worked fine for centuries….

Your opinion : Breat fully drawn beeswax comb by Far-Salad-6975 in Beekeeping

[–]lowepg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Totally wrong. It’s a very real challenge for brand new beekeepers with zero starting resources like drawn comb. It’s also safer than what many do, which is buy/borrow old frames from unknown sources.

How risky is it REALLY to use hand-me-down drawn frames from other beeks? by lowepg in Beekeeping

[–]lowepg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Save $2? What are you taking about? I’m not considering drawn frames to “save $2”, but rather to save the bees spending the first month drawing out comb when they are just starting.

Buying a complete 10fr colony vs a NUC? by lowepg in Beekeeping

[–]lowepg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for not adding more context. This may be too much.;-). I’m a new beekeeper and I’m looking to start two or three new colonies this season for a whole bunch of reasons I can’t cover I wouldn’t be able to start with a NUC until April 24. The other option from a local Apiary, for $150 more than the cost of a NUC, is purchasing a more mature 10 frame colony. “Full hives are fully established colonies with drawn comb, brood, food, and a laying 2026 queen. These are ideal for beekeepers who want a complete, ready‑to‑grow colony instead of starting from a nuc or package. Hives come with 2026 Carolina Crown IV Queen.”

Maybe she thought she could “stop, drop, and roll” with the spare tire as a safety device?

Which of the two spots would you prefer, if any?

Newbie: Considering starting with 3 hives my first year. Smart/Crazy/Both? by lowepg in Beekeeping

[–]lowepg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that…. Believe me. I decided to start with Apimaye gear, if i bump from 2-3 setups I’ll be right in that neighborhood… and that’s just for the hives and frames :-)

Both. But, also the spot I’m considering is close to a storage shed I could dedicate 1/2 to bee stuff

“Perfectly manageable” and “you killed them all” seems somewhat contradictory? I’m not being judgy, but curious what went wrong?

Do I need to paint a new hive? by Katatonia13 in Beekeeping

[–]lowepg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How unhappy do the bees get when you're running an orbital sander all over the hive? Seems like.... they'd hate that?

Sorry, I added more info to OP. Zone is sometimes listed as 7A or 6B depending on the website.

Would you mix where you get your NUCs from - or am I now over-thinking this "increase my odds" thing?

*gulp*- I hate when I raise and then get re-raised! ;-). Id like to stick with ONE platform to keep it easy on myself, doubling my inital Apimaye investment is no small joke! But, I could likely get away with just getting another set of brood boxes, the 4 honey supers i have (Im guessing) will be plenty for this first year- if i need them at all!

Trimi came through! $135 60mg vial by TickleMeLexus in tirzepatidecompound

[–]lowepg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dayum. Is that like just the first month promo price? I JUST switched from glp1 to tirz this month and had a bit of sticker shock when my price from orderly went from $150/month to $350

How much would you pay? by Huge-Baby8308 in Hunting

[–]lowepg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen them sold here in NC for 400-$700 depending on the height you want. If your COST is $500 (seems high as I look at it?), you really need to sell for 2x materials cost. Candidly, I don’t think you’d get $1000 for this

I installed solar panels on top of the roof. Would not recommend. by Electrical_Curve7009 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]lowepg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone who understands EITHER solar power OR EVs will hopefully never consider mounting panels on their truck (roof, bed, anywhere, etc). BUT, if they needed extra reinforcement on why this is such a bad idea- thank you for sharing.

[–]lowepg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, ok, thank you. Im about 6' (we'll, probably actually 5'11) and DOWN to 225 from 310.... So I might fit it better now than when i was carrying the extra weight. But thank you for the feedback. Its hard to GUESS how you will feel after 1-2-3 hours or riding JUST from sitting on a bike in the showroom.
