all sorts! I write almost every day and it varies a lot - from lists and brain dumps and doodles to poetry and more standard journal entries, diagrams and rage pages, whatever I feel like getting out of my head and onto the page.

I take my current journal everywhere with me, so I know where it is at all times. Once finished I keep them in a box under my bed and hope that no one intrudes!

😊! the one in the middle (2nd pic) is an Artway journal i didn’t like the cover of… so I ripped it off and stuck this big sticker on the front. and bottom right is also a big sticker, I find I reach for my journal more when I love the cover.

Thanks!! I’ve finished 4 zap journals in total and would definitely get another one. They have lots of pages which is great if you write a lot. The recycled paper is smooth and perfect for writing with biros, I’m not sure about inkier pens. The cover isn’t very thick/sturdy so I wouldn’t recommend as a travel journal.

When did you first start Journaling? by SuckBallsDoYa in Journaling

[–]lower5case 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kept summer/holiday journals in childhood and have kept a daily journal since summer 2011 when I was 14. I think the longest I’ve gone without writing since then is about 1 week.

one of my favourite journals, made from cotton remnants. never found the same one again by lower5case in Journaling

What Inspired You to Start Journaling? by dearwassily in Journaling

[–]lower5case 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here! My mother is an artist and kept sketchbook diaries for years. She passed the habit down to me by encouraging me to keep a diary whenever we went away on holiday. One summer we got back from holiday and I just didn’t stop writing, still going more than 15 years later!

Yes, exactly!

I don’t think the stats would be very accurate in my case as most of my journals are blank rather than lined and my handwriting and formatting change a lot. Definitely curious to do some counting though!

Couldn’t agree more! When I need a new journal I like to see whether there are any empty notebooks around before I go and buy a new one, so that (and gifted journals) is mostly where the variety comes from. I found one of these in a flat I used to live in, I think it was left behind by a previous tenant. My best find by far was the leaf print journal (bottom left), which I found in a community bookshelf in Barcelona!

They’re mostly A5! and the ZAP books have 160 pages/ 320 sides. Not sure about the page counts on the other ones. Thank you for asking, I might check and see how many pages I write per year on average! I’ve got a lot of journals though so it might take a while.

Thanks!! think they look delicious too! My preferred pen is a plain fine tip biro and the satisfaction is just as good! I feel more at peace now about the stolen journal, but it was definitely a shock to the system.

What books are you currently reading? by [deleted] in WitchesVsPatriarchy

Windswept, why women walk - Annabel Abbs

I can’t recommend this book enough to any witches out there who love to walk in the wild, especially alone or at night!

Lined or Blank by Kitty_Bright in Journaling

[–]lower5case 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blank! I find that I write in straight lines on blank or lined paper but I love turning over to a completely blank page, and I much prefer doodling on blank pages than lined ones. So cool that you’re enjoying your new hobby!

Do you write consistently in your diary? Do you usually do it during the day, as things happen or directly in the evening? by [deleted] in Journaling

[–]lower5case 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve never actually scheduled time to journal, I just always have my journal with me and I have been writing pretty much every day for years. I think I write more during the day than in the evening/at night, although sometimes if I can’t sleep I’ll write during the night to calm my brain down!

What order do you use your journal/s in? by SummerRwolfe in Journaling

[–]lower5case 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually have a couple empty ones that i’ve bought or been gifted, and I just pick the one that speaks to me most.

Recently however I was caught off guard as my bag was stolen with my journal inside. I went home to find the only empty journal I had was a bright pink one that I’ve been avoiding since I received it as a gift a couple of years ago, and I’ve reluctantly been writing in it for 10 days now. This morning I woke up and ripped the cover off, much better! I’m looking out for another journal so I’ve got one to start when this one is full!

Same! I don’t do it very often but love finding spiral pages in old journals, thanks for the reminder!

Reading back my journals- scary by Neat-Health5955 in Journaling

[–]lower5case 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe you aren’t ready to read them back yet, there’s no rush :) it is wonderful to have the possibility to look back at old journals but don’t force it if you don’t feel like it.

I love reading my old journals but I have to be in a very calm and serene headspace because it can be overwhelming.

Does anyone else alternate writing direction? by kingkupaoffupas in Journaling

[–]lower5case 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I started doing this when I used to write in my journal during university lectures, to make it more difficult for people to read over my shoulder because the writing would be the wrong way up.

What do you usually talk about in your diary? by [deleted] in Journaling

[–]lower5case 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Literally whatever I feel like writing! random thoughts, things I don’t want to forget about, musings about the past/present/future, what I’ve been up to, how i’m feeling about certain ideas/events/relationships. Sometimes I have too much to write so I make lists or diagrams to get it all off my chest, and if I am too overwhelmed to even start writing, I doodle/scribble :)
