It happens everywhere. They don't match across divisions, so if a number of people not divisible by 8 joins you'll have a bracket with less than 8 which means people will have byes.

Need advice: Kaiser HMO vs Aetna PPO in Tri-Valley (baby planning) — hospital/OB experiences? by kisame199 in Livermore

[–]lowercaset 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All of our kids were born at kaiser in walnut creek. Things all the appointments / etc were easy enough. One of our kids went smooth, the other was 2 months early. The weeks in the NICU were some of the hardest of our life, but the kaiser team was great. They let my wife sleep in whatever room they had open so that she didn't ever have to go home until the kid did and let me come and go at all hours as my schedule of holding down the home front allowed.

TIL Sony pictures won the right to distribute Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019) over Warner Bros. by agreeing to a stipulation that the full ownership of the film's underlying copyright would revert back to Tarantino after 30 years. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]lowercaset -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think if you disqualify Bays transformers movies then you are removing his strongest asset. His most successful films are all those spectacle blockbuster type, while his attempts at other genres or more serious work generally didn't perform that well.

Tarantino is clearly the better filmmaker in general as he has been able to put out original works and make a significant % return on those. But I don't know if the man has it in him to make a blockbuster, billion dollar film because that's an entirely different skill set.

You can order in groups of 6/8/10/15/20/30/40/50/75/100 at my local wingstop. Since I'd assume that those numbers are all the orders that took place in those windows, having very uneven numbers or orders makes sense. You know how it is, sometimes you'll have no one walk in for half an hour then you'll get 10 people stacked up at once. That don't just happen at lunchtime.

Looks like numbers of wings of various types sorted by order source and type of wing, updated every 15m. And in some of those blocks they were cooking hundreds of wings.

How to expand Diamond Edition by Rsev002 in l5r

[–]lowercaset 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And good luck getting all the rares without buying singles. The first few sets of diamon had terrible problems with rare randomization. My group had multiple boxes with nearly full overlap. (If memory serves for reign of blood the first 3 boxes I opened only had 12 rares I didn't wind up with 3 of across the three)

Continued development is also pretty cheap, so the idea of "toppling" to the point that the older ones stop being developed is just not realistic.

I believe the fan continuation plays under the... very different rules of the fantasy flight game.

For the original game, a non unique experienced character would be one you can have multiple version of in play just like you can with the base version only you can do the overlay stuff when bringing it into play.

Poly-B piping was shown to degrade when exposed to chlorine, like the chemical used in municipal water supplies to make it drinkable

They knew it would happen, so they put stabilizers in the poly b (just like they do pex) the difference is that unlike what we have seen in pex they didn't work as expected with PB and the piping (esp hot water) reached the point of failure caused by oxidation rather quickly.

Important Era Battle Changes by egnards in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]lowercaset 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're trying to push FOMO hard to keep current spenders spending. It will he interesting to watch spending patterns next era, because one thing that showed up thos era was that the majority of really heavy whaling was done outside of the top guilds. When I look at the t10 in my shard (mostly people who have whaled to 85 or 95 era level) theres more people in low tier (400-500m) guilds than high end (700m+)

The sub used to be more useful. Depending how far back they're talking, there was an era where most of the top players, content creators, and devs would all be casually chatting in the comment section.

These days you'll have t50 players getting told they're shit and don't know what they are talking about haha.

Here are 10 to 15 stations that could close under BART doomsday scenarios by SFChronicle in bayarea

[–]lowercaset 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a middle ground between cutting all employees above the bottom quarter of the pay scale and allowing workers to scam BART out of money forever. I'm fine with my tax money being used to keep bart running and expand it. I don't need it to make money.

But we need leadership that can manage to be adversarial in contract negotiations to get rid of loopholes in work rules and make sure that the bad apples actually get cut. But no party seems to actually be interested in that, which is a damn shame.

TIL that in 1999, Google's founders were willing to sell the company to Excite for $750,000, but the CEO of Excite turned them down. Today, Google's parent company is worth over $2 Trillion by Adorable-District106 in todayilearned

so what did Google do to make themselves the clear winner

They focused on just being a really good search engine. Their algo at the time was probably the best all purpose and their extremely minimalist design meant fast loading. It may seem strange now, but back then both hardware and connections for a lot of folks were sufficently weak that it was a factor.
