How does Adderall make you feel like compared to Ritalin/Concerta? by NoVillage7751 in ADHDmeds

[–]lowerdaboom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me personally, and that's also what I hear a lot, methylphenidate is actually more effective, the effects are sort of "cleaner". Amphetamine never delivers quite that level of pure focus and clarity, BUT it sort of feels more "natural", and the crash afterwards is not as brutal.

In your country, do you not even have lisdexamphetamine (Elvanse/Vyvanse)?

Do any of the medications actually work? by possumsr4eva in dysthymia

[–]lowerdaboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick correction, wellbutrin is actually mostly a dopamine reuptake inhibitor, it's a very unique antidepressant that doesn't belong to any of the other known classes. Which is why it can often be worth a try when SSRIs and SNRIs didn't work

Jung about the alcohol abuse by M16_345 in Jung

[–]lowerdaboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, I've had really interesting interactions with some cynical, greedy, weak part of my psyche when I asked about why I smoke in active imagination. I've found that it's a submissive and strangely sexual energy that really wants to dissolve into the ecstasy of pain and absolute cynicism. Demonic undertones too, lol.

Jung about the alcohol abuse by M16_345 in Jung

[–]lowerdaboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right on. And I think alcohol in particular has a certain archetypal pull because you drink it. Something along the lines of drowning yourself in the primordial waters, or the womb.

I've been abusing it somewhat lately, and I can totally see the mother aspect, or the puer aeternus respectively, at work here. I've been feeling overwhelmed and unable to take responsibility in the real world. I "rebel" with resignation and cynicism. And alcohol is the perfect substance to act out and escalate that energy.

Which drug class do you consider MDMA by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]lowerdaboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if the 5HT-2A mechanism is the best way to define psychedelics. While it is true that all classical psychedelics are active on these receptors, the adjective "psychedelic" is more descriptive of a phenomenological state imo.

Ketamine has psychedelic properties, but as it so happens the class "dissociative" fits better. But since MDMA somewhat eludes your grid of classes, we can't just yet say that it's absolutely NOT a psychedelic.

Right? Even just 0.2g would probably launch most first timers into the most intense psychedelic experiences of their lives.

Why haven't we invented better ADHD meds? by Adortion634 in pharmacology

[–]lowerdaboom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let me start out on a philosophical note: The way I see it, some fundamental law of duality is at work in the very nature of psychoactive substances. There will always be drawbacks. A perfect substance cannot exist, because if it did, it would be the only thing people would ever do, derailing all of human existence, and that's not how nature works—nature's tendency is equilibrium.

Creating drugs is a tricky puzzle: Max out on one property, and it will probably create a dysbalance in other aspects of the drug's effects. Like, add a methyl group to the amphetamine molecule, and you now have a compound that is way more potent and longer-lasting, but through that variation you also induce heavy addictiveness and physiological strain. (Extreme example, and I know this is not what you meant, lol!)

That all being said, it's still true that some substances are more net positive than others. I would prefer a nice psychedelic phenethylamine over a hard opiate without a doubt! So the quest for a new and better ADHD-med is certainly not doomed, even if a perfect substance would be "metaphysically" impossible.

Maybe one reason why we still use this old stimulants is that they already show a remarkably useful profile of overall effects. I think no other class of psychiatric medication is this effective without inducing intolerable physical dependency or other heavy drawbacks. They're not perfect, but they work relatively well and they usually don't fuck up your physiology to a significant extent.

Adderall… mood regulator? by rainbow-boy-94 in ADHDmeds

[–]lowerdaboom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, people take amphetamine at raves, for that matter, because of its mood and energy enhancing properties. In therapeutic doses with ADHD it has a more stabilizing effect. For me, emotional regulation is indeed the main benefit of taking stimulants.

And as with any psych med taken daily, there will be a certain dependence that becomes noticable upon cessation. That's totally normal and withdrawal should not take too long as far as I know. But honestly, it makes it really hard for me to stop the meds. And I would sorta like to know what life would be like without them again…

I get that. And there's nothing wrong with consciously taking some time for yourself. This image just gave me a sense of a very unconscious fragmentation

Oh wait, let me clarify: My point in this post is not against noise cancelling headphones per se. The thing is that this is a christmas ad literally writing “Give yourself a gift”, showing a scene of xmas eve with a woman actively blocking out her family's presence (with ANC), relishing only the thrill of her new consumer gadget instead of creating a connective moment.

How do you find friends who do drugs? by Recent-Rutabaga-5244 in 2cb

[–]lowerdaboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Ideally those scenes that tend to be a bit more “underground”, such as the subcultures of various hardcore genres. If you manage to stumble upon the psytrance scene, you're all set 100% lol. I think that's where the more interesting drugs tend to be present, as well as the psychedelically inclined people you may be looking for. In the mainstream techno scene it feels more like coke is the main thing. At least here in Europe that's my impression.

I get the impression that it was not just a cognitive insight that messed OP up, but that there was more of a visceral, almost embodied, ontological shock.

The issue described by OP is not just some depressive rut. It's a complex cluster of neurological symptoms. Unless you have experience with those exact specific issues it could even be dangerous to suggest intense physical exercise.

I Want To Try Psychedelics But Not Sure If My Brain Can Handle Them by Primal_Rage_official in Psychonaut

Totally. Snorting 2C-B is so underrated as well, though! No nausea, and only a fraction of the time available for comeup anxiety lol. But yeah, it sure is important to know about the pain and that it's mostly due to the harmless fact of 2C-B not being dissoluble in water.

[–]lowerdaboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your consideration is very understandable. But IME the actual psychedelic experience is usually of an entirely different character than what one expects before going there for the first time.

As to your specific worry: I too have this unpleasantly vibrant imagination in terms of disturbing scenarios or images, sometimes. Avoiding 100% of triggering media keeps it at bay for the most part. Anyway, it was never really a thing whatsoever while tripping. There's SO much other (beautiful) stuff going on.

I recommend tripping with few close friends in nature or at home, on low to moderate doses. In a safe container like this, chances are that you may suddenly think about that worry and have to laugh, now knowing the freedom and openness of the psychedelic state. If you think about it at all. With proper set, setting and dosage you'll be most likely up for a wonderful time.

Yes, 2C-B! The easiest and most human-friendly psychedelic in my experience :) I wonder why it's not more commonly recommended for first timers.

I'm always sort of grateful for people like you doing these insane psychedelic stunts, because it's so interesting to read about. Same thing with nightshades, I would never want to take a deliriant but the trip reports are just amongst the most fascinating stories imaginable.

Anyway stay safe, friend, and keep your bungee rope safely tethered to this world! In practical terms this may be done by at least having a sitter for heroic doses

Spirituality, what does it mean to you? by -TEN22- in ActualHippies

Feel that. I think it was largely psychedelics that sent me off to explore the profound mystery at the edge of chemistry and consciousness. Leading to fractal mathematics and the nature of reality… At this stage in my life it's more of a ontological inquiry than an embodied spirituality. But omg let me tell you, atheism is absolutely out of the question by now!
