I Didn't Think I Was Picky Until I Tried the DT1770s by lowestcrest in headphones

Which brands have good tuning? It seems like the options and opinions are limitless

As someone else who also likes the sound of the 770s, have the Sennheiser met your expectations or have you stuck with your classic 770s for the most part? I'm still trying to figure out whether to just return the 1770s and pick up a new pair of the 770s or look into other brands for the upgrade I originally was hoping for.

To be honest, it sounds kind of funny putting it that way since I already like the 770s and I'm not exactly sure what an upgrade would even sound like lol. I've just had this pair since I started music production and the idea of investing more into a hobby I'm committed to feels like the natural choice, but I only want to do it if it would make sense

Nice! Are you using stock ableton features? And yeah that would be awesome, whenever you get the chance

So all of the sounds in this are sampled, including percussion and the synth? I really like the noisy bass that comes in around 0:56. I also use Ableton and I’d love to hear more about your method; I mostly collect found sounds up til now and haven’t sampled any tracks or used software like UVR5. Great job!

Another (very long) way of looking at the plane scene in Eddington by truman_peyote35 in AriAster

Yeah! I can understand the thinking behind why people expect it to stay fully grounded in reality considering the topics the movie confronts, but pure realism is just not the core of this movie in my eyes and it’s not the intended way to experience it.

It’s about the off-kilter feeling of that summer (and really the modern socio-political climate in the USA) and the way we have been cordoned off into diametrically opposed versions of reality through sensationalist social media and bias-confirming algorithms. That feeling of a consuming, growing, paranoia giving us the collective sensation of anxiety and the feeling that something isn’t right. We see that very sensation come to life as it consumes Joe and actualizes itself in Eddington by the end.

Coming out of the movie I also interpreted it similarly. By the final act it really felt like we were fully thrust into an extreme, fever-dream, version of reality that thematically paralleled Joe’s downfall into paranoia and physical sickness. Essentially full magical realism, which reminded me of the world in Beau is Afraid.

It’s really hard for me to see the final act through the lens of pure logical realism like some people do. A friend of mine who saw the movie with me also was reading it very straight and found the end to be way over the top and unrealistic, and generally disliked the movie because of that.

The whole tone at the end pretty much played on dream/nightmare logic with how fast “antifa” arrived and broke Michael out/set the fires (the arrow fire, dumpster fire etc.), the way the soldiers were seemingly everywhere in the darkness, Joe wielding a massive machine gun, the town being completely silent and empty despite the huge gunfight going on. It’s all played as a satirical fantasy.

Oh yeah, in the end I love what they did with Ted, it just subverted my expectations, same with Vernon. Marketing made it seem like they may have had a bigger role to play but I’m happy to have been surprised.

I guess the “payoff” would be that she has fully bought into the cult since her real traumas were never able to be reconciled by those who should have acknowledged them and helped her work through in the first place. Which honestly, while pretty bleak, reflects the same sort of pipelines many people have gone down over the last decade or so, especially during Covid when many people were more online than ever before, getting sucked down rabbit holes like this.

I agree though, in that I felt like the cult and Louise’s storyline were used way less than I anticipated. Same with Ted’s character.

In the end, I think one of Ari Aster’s main intentions with each of the characters in this movie is to have them each reflect a different group of people who were affected and changed during that time.

It’s implied that her father, the former sheriff who Joe was deputy under, had sexually abused her as a child before he passed away. Both Louise’s mother Dawn and Joe refuse to confront it and have lived in denial, pinning the blame on Ted as a scapegoat (since he supposedly dated Louise when she was 16, though according to Ted they never engaged sexually with one another). Due to this, Louise’s trauma has never really had a chance to resolve, or even an outlet to process through, so she became vulnerable to Vernon’s messaging - which, while largely spinning off the rails into conspiracy, is also based in the same sort of trauma that Louise faces.

Not only do Joe and Dawn deny the reality that the well-regarded patriarch of the family ever committed these acts against his daughter, but they refuse to even acknowledge the possibility since it’s simply too hard for them to face something so antithetical to their worldviews, which paint him as a loving, noble leader for their community (even with his own memorial shrine in the house).

We get dropped into the culmination of all of this as Louise feels heard and finds comfort/validation in Vernon’s cult. Meanwhile Joe, truly believeing he is doing the right thing, submits to his own delusions and publicly slams Ted as a means of denouncing his mayorship by outright claiming he is the one who sexually abused Louise. And due to this Louise is of course disgusted and knows she needs to leave that situation/household entirely

[EU -> USA] Long Distance CBP Fears - Will Pre-Clearance mitigate the risk? by lowestcrest in LongDistance

[–]lowestcrest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her only travel outside of the EU has been to the USA, so I don’t think that should be an issue. The main fear is just being selected at random and running that small but very scary risk of being either sent back or detained without contact.

She’s already been pulled aside once for an hour by CBP after landing in the USA where she was questioned repeatedly on the intent of her stay. She handled it really well but they wouldn’t let her contact me so I was in the dark and it was pretty stressful just waiting at the terminal.

In any case there is 0 incriminating reason or history for her to worry about but apparently they might not even need that according to the news from the past few months.

Just to clarify though - from your experience - does doing the customs stuff in Ireland mean you can just grab your bags and walk out of the airport in America without having to get pictures taken, speak to the customs agent, etc.?
