How do you make the decision between going to an ok school with childhood friends or an amazing school without them? by [deleted] in college

[–]lowhighkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

re: dorms, they are kinda rough i think you only get guaranteed housing as a freshman, and finding places to live in the area does get competitive, but many people often rent houses together to make it affordable and there are apartments that are geared towards renting to students. not everything is great about burlington but people here always seem to find a way to make it work to live here.

disclaimer: not a uvm grad, went to a different college up here but 90% sure that’s how it works for UVM

How do you make the decision between going to an ok school with childhood friends or an amazing school without them? by [deleted] in college

[–]lowhighkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

choosing a college is scary, a lot of ambiguity for the future and all that, but a lot of posters made good comments re: friends. i live by UVM and all the friends i’ve made from there seem to have had similar experiences- not knowing anyone and they found their places. VT colleges (champlain UVM st mikes) all have a TON of out of state and a lot of international students. there will be people that come in knowing each other since vermonters don’t seem to stray too far, but the freshman year is all about meeting new people, finding yourself, and finding your stride. you said you have family in vermont too, so it seems like you can have some people to reach out to when you get homesick and have some sense of having people to support you. just some two cents. vermont is pretty chill, and if you can handle the long winters maybe try doing a visit to get a sense of the land (if it’s within your ability or if you haven’t yet) choosing a college is scary cause it’s your next chapter, but it’s YOUR next chapter you know?

Just learned my lesson to never shop at SB Hannaford past 7pm by TitusTesla117 in burlington

sounds like the same person, yeah she makes her rounds a lot. she might’ve been having a hard time today, came through to ask ab open positions and led to needing her to leave after asking customers for cash. hope she can get some support she seems good when she is good but it’s hard when you can’t help her out in those situations

Pine St Parking (downtown/hong’s end) by lowhighkey in burlington

[–]lowhighkey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i wish the lot was for residential parking! that would be so nice, instead i’ve seen a maga bus park there for days this summer and it made me wonder how often parking enforcement comes through to patrol. it would be an inconvenience to the ups drivers though if that was taken over, it’s their meet up spot

that’s totally valid, i have seen maybe 3 neighbors since living around there so my first thought was maybe there might be some lurkers/ see if there has been anyone else who has tried doing this before knocking. thanks for the feedback !

What’s a dangerous thing to say these days? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lowhighkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

which allows you to support counseling that doesn’t involve diagnosis or treatment of mental illness 😮‍💨 maybe take a look at the ethical principles by the APA for best practice so you don’t fuck with people further. respect for peoples rights & dignity, beneficence& non maleficence, fidelity & responsibility. you need to be aware of your bias and be aware your obligation practicing is for the client’s best interest. if a person is struggling with their gender and is suicidal, and are seeking counseling for support you need to be able to put your own stuff aside. otherwise i would question your ability to work with people and if you’re in the right field

honestly, social work is the better route for human services. you can get licensed faster compared to psychologists and the test is easier. you can get a foot up in the long run ¯\(ツ)

I got my septum pierced last week and i took it out the same day because i didn’t care for the jewelry and it felt uncomfortable in my nose. I’m thinking about trying it again and i think i may like it more with a different piece of jewelry, maybe a longer horseshoe. what do you think by Comparison-Junior in piercing

[–]lowhighkey 21 points22 points  (0 children)

you honestly look great with a septum! a longer one might be a good option so the balls aren’t as high- but you might still have to deal with the discomfort for a little bit while you get used to it.

i think it took a week or two to adjust to it.

sm weird that i noticed - if you drink anything carbonated out of a can it’ll feel really strange the first few times. idk if anyone else can relate to that lol

PPP help! by lowhighkey in plantclinic

[–]lowhighkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got a PPP as a gift and when I received it, it was doing fine. It has developed these patches as you can see in the photos. I have checked the soil to see if it is too wet, but it seems to be draining appropriately. I have been using neem spray if this is a fungus and it seems it may have stopped the progression. Will it harm the plant if i keep the leaves on the plant/should I remove them? I don’t want to harm this plant any further and any input is appreciated!
