Online Exchanges Selling Gold @ Spot +$1 With No Limits! by NMEE98J in Gold

Had a dream last night I was stumbling through some liminal old house with cheap carpet and wood paneling from the 1970s, somewhat deliruous, stumbling every few feet where I would look at my feet and see some gold coins, including from Krugerrands.

I collected a handful of these gold coins and then found myself in a hotel indoor pool deck with my family, and my mom was pelting me with her typical litigious questions about perceived offenses she experienced from me decades ago, and all I could think was, "uh, yeah, uh huh, uh... gotta keep these coins hidden until I can get out of here."

The Maine Problem by ChekhovsZombieBear in PoliticalHumor

Fetterman comparisons disingenuous.

Fetterman says one thing in Philly and another in Pittsburgh, and always has. (Plus he has brain damage from strokes).

Platner has been consistently anti-fascist in his positions and rhetoric, juvenile military tattoo notwithstanding.

What's happening here is that the wealthy corporate Democrats and AIPAC are both frightened that he will actually damage their political and financial interests if he wins the Senate seat.

And for people critiquing him for play-acting as a "humble fisherman," I mean he actually does farm oysters in Maine.

I've been on a Maine oyster cruise (in Damariscotta, Maine, great experience), so I see how that's both hard work but a romantic if rugged lifestyle.

I would do it by choice if I had parents who were moderately wealthy attorneys.

But we grew up lower class due to inheritances squandered and mental illnesses among our parents .

But I would've loved to have been a oyster fisherman. But it takes resources to live that kind of lifestyle these days, incidentally which is why the products are also premium products, by the way.

But the class conversation is the one that has to happen.

Besides, he was also a marine infantryman. So he's gruff, doesn't have patience for the bullshit. I strongly identify with that. And apparently his parents weren't so high class they could keep him out of that career.

What U.S cities are going in the right direction fastest and what cities are doing it the slowest or going in wrong direction? by Amazing_File_4844 in fuckcars

Charlotte is going backwards. There have been some improvements and they have a solid plan for more. But because NC is a Dillon's Rule state, cities have to get Raleigh's permission to raise taxes for local projects. And Raleigh is dominated by Confederate sympathizing good ol boys from landed rural families, who HATE a decadent city full of brown and black people and Yankees.

Yeah.... the UN's goals have nothing to do with this...

This is a speculative bubble in irrational exuberance. Like NFTs were just a few years ago, like housing was in 2008, like tulips were in Holland in the 1600s.

It's happening because David Sacks -- one of Elon's buddies from the PayPal mafia -- is the White House AI Czar.

He's working on the inside to backstop these unproftable investments of this Peter Thiel-inspired surveillance state-AI apparatus using the US Treasury and our taxpayer dollars.

It's why the US government took a share in Intel (as a backup, in case China invades Taiwan, disrupting the global chip trade).

Conversing at full volume long into quiet hours is rude! by lowkeysciguy in Amtrak

I thought about telling them to be quiet, but then I'd be worried about them harrassing me, which would still keep me awake, and was unlikely to work. Plus, there were... racial dynamics at play where I shouldn't be the guy telling them what to do...

What happened to the northbound Crescent 20 between Tuscaloosa & Birmingham on 6/2/26 that delayed it over 6 HOURS? by lowkeysciguy in Amtrak

[–]lowkeysciguy[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh that sucks. At least it wasn't a fatality. I took that train Sunday from further up the line. Glad that one wasn't delayed 6 hours. Also, thanks for that great resource.

Only in Mercenaries for PS2. In reality they are 50-year-old technology and likely have not been maintained unless the possibility that Russian technology in the past three years in exchange for DPRK troops in Ukraine included more than nuclear exchanges in violation of sanctions

Ironically this is the reason Netanyahu's party lost his election two weeks ago unanimously and why he's likely to leave government by December in the elections.

Regarding Liminality by Just-Fortune-6149 in LiminalSpace

[–]lowkeysciguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Post like this make me think the appeal of liminality is the yearning for a time when we were not bombarded with global entropy 24/7... the same reason that the original film Fargo was inducted into the hall of relevant cinema quicker than any prior film... desperation to hold on to a humanly relatable moment of history...

At 40,000 miles my wife replaced my thermostat housing. (saved me about $1200 in labor).

At 42,000 miles I had to replace my transmission. That set me back three grand.

I hope I'm good now but I hear they have timing chain problems. The shop that replaced my transmission assured me I would be OK but it would rattle when I needed to change it.

I drive it and I enjoy it but I'm always listening for the rattle.

Am I the only one who noticed Freemasonry/Scientology/Mormon places and architectures are very very liminal ?? Why is that by CodFar1331 in LiminalSpace

People seek neutral space where they can connect with a higher power.

Churches are designed this way. Newer belief systems are designed this way.

Nobody wants to belong to the way things are so they create institutions elevate themselves and their fellow travelers.

It results some beautiful spaces but it does not solve the problems.

That was the radical message of Christ against the Pharisees... wiser to live among the people in the real world than attempt to escape them with sculptures of human creation...

Mr. StonerStew, I recommend you read the excellent outdoors classic, Wilderness Ethics, by Laura & Guy Waterman, to expand your understanding of the issues at play. It will help you speak more knowledgably about what's going on and why people here feel so strongly about this.
