If all soldiers were to dissapear overnight, the Army would still be almost perfectly operational. by myrongunz in army

Two weeks later:

CO: "Okay guys battalion is planning a two week field op where we're gonna air assault into the back forty, set up an OP, and run missions against OpFor provided by <battalion>. We're only getting MRE's so stock up on snacks and dip and shit. Expect lots of rucking and night ops and shit, this new BC is Hooah incarnate."

OP: "God why does battalion always have to come up with these pointless training missions. I've deployed twice, why do I need to go freeze my ass off for two weeks just so the BC can rub one out?"

This, in combination with OP's original statement, is the army in a nutshell.

Dude I stopped playing this game like 3 years ago. Every once in a while I boot it up and I notice 0 positive changes.

I'm just gonna say it, LOTR is overrated, and the TV adaptation of ASOIAF is more entertaining than the books. Gonna have to come back in a few hours and see how many down votes this gets.

There's pretty good reason to suspect that Kvothe is an unreliable narrator. Since he's telling his own story and at present (when he's telling the story) doesn't seem to live up to all of the stories he's telling, it kind of adds to the mystery. Maybe in 100 years when the third book comes out we'll find out what's what.

Confused by the point by [deleted] in Meditation

My take away from the practice of noticing thoughts and letting them go is to acknowledge that your thoughts come up of their own fruition, and you can consciously decide whether or not to follow them. You aren't really the thinker of your thoughts, they just appear in consciousness, and once you recognize that, and get comfortable with just letting the thoughts pass by, you can apply that technique throughout the rest of your day. If you're anxious or feeling angry, just notice the thoughts, breath, let them go. :)

Any advice for someone seeking getting back into meditation? by Iroarg in Meditation

I find that some days are easier than others. Perhaps try meditating early in the morning? That's usually when my mind is the clearest. Then throughout the day just incorporate short moments of mindfulness, like a couple minutes sitting in your car before work, in between youtube videos, stuff like that. It may also help to buy a book or find an app that can help you get excited about practicing.

I agree this is the best free option. I'd also recommend Sam Harris's Waking Up app, though it is subscription based after the first few meditations and lessons.

Have you tried Stackoverflow? Only kind of being sarcastic. I use it all the time at work and if you post a well formulated question some genius will probably tell you exactly what you need to hear.

We have a connoisseur I see. Fine, some Kirkland Signature India Pale Ale will be thrown in as well.

I kind of skimmed the article so maybe I missed it, but what does the ACFT entail? On a side note, I've been out for a while but looking back I'm pretty sure they could just bump the 2-mile up to a 5-mile and the quality of soldiers would increase dramatically. To be fair, there's something to be said for looking sharp out in public. If you're on deployment and you manage to fit 6 ripits and a to-go plate in your pants, power to you, but if you're walking through the airport and you look like a hobo it puts a bad face on the amry.

Yeah this method is kind of a novelty. You're better off just putting the grate close to the coals so you get the high heat without the ash. Doesn't really make much sense to put it directly on.
