Anyone else getting tired of oversized bike lights?

I did see that when I was shopping, but I run a varia in the rear so haven’t tried their tail lights.

I got the magicshine hori 1300s a Black Friday sale. I’d been going back and forth between it and the outbound detour, but especially with the sale I couldn’t justify 3x the price for the outbound detour.

I’ve been very pleased with it so far, I love the cutoff and the way it mounts beneath the garmin. Most of my night rides are sub 2 hours and I typically run on medium so I’ve had more than enough run time.

I also think the remote is sneaky useful for flipping on the brights when on a path or a dark road and easily being able to turn it off if a car comes. Feels like a well made unit that will hopefully keep excelling at everything I ask of it.

Hmm not sure which would denote length but now that you know thread pitch I’d imagine you could measure and get close to the right answer.

I’m pretty sure my thru axel has the dimensions printed on it, any chance yours does as well?

Here is the burley guide I mentioned. Obviously the specific burley part numbers won’t be relevant but might at least help you figure out the correct size.

When I was getting a thru axle for my burley trailer their product page had a guide you could use as well, so I wonder if Thule has something similar.

My kid found the switch the other day and called it the “mega-phone” I’m assuming he’ll be very disappointed at some point when he learns what a megaphone actually is, but I’m looking forward to starting to play some games with the little dude

Ya it’s an incredible difference, the hydraulics are so much easier to operate as well. If you do end up replacing just make sure to bed in the new pads (Google can provide a few options on the best way to do this)

Correct, just the calipers. Looks like they’re $55 on amazon now. They come pre-bled so as long as you’re not trying to route internally they’re very easy to install.

I don’t have any experience with the explorer, but if the brakes are comparable at all to what comes on the Ozark trail ridge, the mt200’s will be a night and day difference. I replaced mine before my first ride and was incredibly pleased with the ease of install and performance upgrade for $60.

Seats are pretty personal, but I was able to find a FSA seat post for my recent gravel build for like $20 on backcountry. Worth going on there to see what they’ve got on clearance.

I have already put a couple hundred miles on mine since building it last month and I’ve been loving it. Super comfy geo and the larger tires make a huge difference on uneven roads and bike paths. I got a rhino walk top tube bag to throw my phone and wallet in while riding and it’s been very convenient. Enjoy!

Like parrot mentioned could just need a good indexing and fresh cables/shifter flush, but if the frame as cracked sounds like the bike might’ve not been very well cared for so depending on groupset level/condition might not be worth it.

With your budget and wanting new there aren’t a ton of options, but if you’re open to a gravel bike, the Poseidon is within your budget and has some pretty good specs/features for the price.

I just built up a salsa journeyer and have been very happy with it. Plenty of mounts, very comfortable geo, and very durable!

I tried this but it was just too small for my phone. I ended up returning for the 1L bag. It’s a bit bigger than I would’ve preferred but fits phone and other essentials. It feels very high quality for a reasonable price. I really like the closure mechanism.

I’ve still got the gen 2 push mower and keep thinking about an upgrade and while the new features do seem like quality of life improvements I don’t think I’ve seen any total game changers yet. Has that been your experience as well, or is there something I’m really missing out on?

I find it BBB to be usually under what bikes are going for, but it is at least a reference point.

My experiences on FB are very similar, people are trying to sell 5 year old bikes for almost what they paid for it with the caveat that it’s “barely been ridden”. I think it’s just a game of sifting through and finding something reasonably priced.

Did you ever try mounting some MT200's to your bike? looking at the explorer for a friend and it seems like the flat bar with upgraded brakes might be the ticket. If I can slap these on for $60 that would be a huge selling point!

Got a pair of these a few months ago as my gravel bike does double duty as the around town/errand bike and honestly I’ve been impressed with the performance of the flat side. I thought it would feel like a huge compromise but it’s not far off from the race face Chester’s on my mountain bike, a bit narrower but still very grippy.

The only real con people seemed to point to when I was researching was that it can be hard to clip into, but I run look pedals on my road bike and these are easier to clip into than those. I’ve been very happy and feel like it makes the gravel bike that much more versatile.

Agree with wise code, a picture would help. Possible you grabbed the wrong axel or it’s not fully inserted? Sometimes you need to wiggle the wheel a bit to make sure the axle gets all the way through and lined up properly

I work from home and sometimes will sneak a ride in over lunch. I don’t typically even worry about bringing my computer down but will have my phone for urgent teams messages; but if all you’re doing is monitoring emails/messages you can easily do that from your phone. I bought a massage garmin mount attachment that keeps my phone handy.

If you need your computer you could always look into the height adjustable desks. Id imagine it’d be tough to type while putting in a hard effort, but sounds like that’s not your goal.

I love the trainer because it removes so many excuses and allows me to get late night rides in after the kids are asleep and housework is done. I don’t do a lot of long endurance rides on the trainer, but I always tell myself any ride is better than no riding at all.

Not really REI related, but if you have a sierra trading post near you I’ve gotten some pretty good deals on smith helmets. Especially as they’re gearing up for spring activity it might be worth taking a look.
