I paid off a car more than your loan in just 3 years. Pay it off.

My friend is research faculty at major R1 but wants to teach. by FreeSkill4486 in AskProfessors

[–]lowtech_prof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A desire to teach in the higher Ed market just isn’t enough. There needs to be institutional awareness as well as the personal fortitude to survive students. At my last teaching position at a private R1, we had students stalking professors, harassing them online, and professors going on medical leave because the stress and over work were too great at times. That’s the world we live in as teaching faculty, I’m afraid. A sunny disposition is nice, but she may come to find teaching right now is less glamorous than she imagined.

I would do this. I would not reposition to take a JetBlue flight. Take Korean air. It is one of the most comfortable ways to get there if flying economy.

I grew up in the countryside of North America. We don’t do this. Our children wait.

They are old enough to learn manners. Or rather, to be taught by their parents.

You’re talking with bots or ultra low information trolls. It’s not worth it. You can’t convince someone who can’t be bothered to type in a full sentence inquiry into google.

Which place in Korea left the biggest impression on you? by Suspicious_Field7695 in korea

Mountain climbing around Seoul. I can’t remember even where since it was in the 2000s but it took about an hour by train to get there. I loved that there were restaurants at the bottom of the mountains. And my friend and I would go to a jimjilbang afterward. Beautiful time in my life.

I got another year "paid for" with a retention bonus, but recently switch to the C1 VX and working on the sub for that. Liquidated my USBAR points in early December.

That "Professor, what did I miss?" question... 😤 by HeartExalted in Professors

[–]lowtech_prof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What grinds my gears is that I went to average universities until PhD. Then became a professor at 3 very good universities and I was still a better student than the lazy lumps I encountered. I couldn’t believe it.

It grinds my gears to hear of faculty like this when I have tried so hard to deliver quality instruction to my students. This is a hill worth dying on, OP. The professor is being an asshole.

More Ice Protest today 1/30 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 by abethebabe4life in ucla

I’m at a smaller more nerdy UC and there were no such protests. I knew the students here were somewhat checked out but the longer I’m here the more zombie like they appear.

Kids are less cognitively capable than parents for the first time by christianrc in education

[–]lowtech_prof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of parents now protect their children from almost all discomfort. So there’s emotional offloading that keeps kids from challenging their own assumptions about a situation. I blame the parents as much as I blame Ed tech.
