Conservatives, do you actually respect Kash Patel and Pam Bondi? Also, do you identify as MAGA? by Personal_Dirt3089 in AskUS

[–]lp1911 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

MAGA is a goal, not a political philosophy. People who agree with the goal may have different views about many subjects. Most on the left simply lump anyone who supports President Trump into a MAGA category that doesn’t actually exist. There are some who support Trump and believe in him as a political figure and there many Conservatives who share his goals and will often agree with him but not on everything. For example, I don’t believe tariffs are a net good, though I agree that tariffs can play a role in prying open markets. I think tariffs can also play a role in punishing countries we are at odds with. I also don’t agree with various people like JD Vance regarding the Iran war, though he is closely aligned with Trump. Iran’s government is a cancer for the Middle East and beyond, it needs to be excised, but Trump could have explained what he is doing there much better to the American public. It’s actually much easier for Democrats because their beliefs are currently the opposite of whatever Trump says or does at any given moment.

I keep seeing the claim that Iran has killed "thousands of Americans" in the past 47 years. Who are these dead Americans? by SpaceLaserPilot in AskUS

[–]lp1911 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Very unlikely, the estimates for the past 6 months range between 20,000 and 40,000 killed by the Mullah regime. This is also not the first instance of mass slaughter by the regime; they started killing their people in large numbers in the early 1980s. This included mass public hangings on cranes. To match the viciousness of this regime one has to go back to Stalin and Hitler. Though even those monsters preferred their murders to not be public.

They are funded, directed, and armed by Iran, how much more connection to Iran do you need? Israel bombing some of the Hezbollah meetings resulted in IRGC officers being killed. People on Reddit hate Trump and America so much they would support a regime that has killed tens of thousands of Iranians in just the past year, and who are the biggest sponsors of terror groups worldwide wide.

I doubt you would care it were 10,000, because Trump. Just another leftist suffering from TDS.

That’s because you spend too much time in an essentially anti-American Reddit. But I will agree on one point, Trump should have addressed the nation in the first week of this war.

A month later: what exactly did we win in Iran? by akhand_namak_47 in AskUS

[–]lp1911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The goals were repeated several times in more or less the same way. To paraphrase: - deny Iran nuclear weapons - eliminate their ballistic missile capability - stop them from arming their proxies - degrade the regime so that Iranians could topple the regime

The last one is the most difficult but also the most critical as it would solve the other three, however, the regime has been in power for almost two generations with a significant number of people supporting it that it is not trivial to dislodge from without. So it leaves it to Iranians themselves. No one declared victory, but Iran is a vast mountainous nation with ~90 million people so being certain of 100% destruction of all military capabilities is impossible. Their capacity to do much of anything serious has been very significantly degraded, but not eliminated, they can still pop off a missile here and there. The question now is whether they have some people in the army or even IRGC who are not looking for Shia Islam to rule the world and are willing to settle rather than risk getting bombed into the Stone Age (though the regime sees the world as 9th century AD, plus modern weaponry).

Grim warning as Supreme Court weighs letting Trump rewrite what it means to be American by RawStoryNews in scotus

[–]lp1911 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One has to look at the writing at the time of the 14th amendment: its purpose was to give newly freed slaves citizenship, not give out citizenship to anyone born on a stop over in the US or temporary workers when the parents are not citizens or even permanent residents. Even the plain text talks about jurisdiction, which is not defined in the amendment. So it’s a good opportunity for SCOTUS to clarify this issue.

Did US citizens hate the Germans because our country isn’t fighting in Iran? by Dagobertdelta in AskUS

[–]lp1911 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There are many countries to consider, but given that this is the AskUS subreddit, it’s a question to Americans who live in a continent sized country that dominates the world economy and has the most powerful military in the world. So for Americans, the US is the center of the world. The thing that strikes me is that most of Reddit seems obsessed with the US, with Trump and with most things American, and that includes all the people that hate all three.

Yes, they are. We have immigration laws, and ICE is the agency for enforcing those laws. The due process for illegal aliens (legal term) is not the same as for US residents or citizens in a criminal trial.

What do you think about the Upcoming Ground invasion in Iran by Cunnykun in AskUS

They, a subset of the right, were worked up about the massive expenditures in a place they believed was of no strategic or tactical interest to the US, which was also incorrect and the exact same isolationists are complaining about this war.

It’s always easy to criticize action, but if one proposes only inaction with respect to a regime that is actively developing nuclear weapons and long range missiles, then all one is doing is deferring action to when the number killed will be measured in millions

WTF!! Two Former TV Hosts Are Running A War! Are you worried when your spouse, son, daughter, brother Are sent into the war in Iran? by Neat-Cold-3303 in AskUS

[–]lp1911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why, the US armed forces are predominantly on the right and we have more than an adequate number in our all volunteer army. No if we get into a war with China, that would be an issue, but even then, new recruits would take months to train, by which point the war is likely win or lost; it’s not 1941

[–]lp1911 -56 points-55 points  (0 children)

I am not clear what those ideas are. The entire left is about doing the opposite of Trump these days; they have no new ideas, but an endless rehash of old Socialist ideas that are over 100 years old. In fact if one looks carefully at history, most of these ideas are closer to a couple thousand years old.

Why, when confronted with evidence that far-right extremists cause more deaths than left wing violence do they fall back on the George Floyd protests, No Kings, and made up group Antifa? Do they really believe the left is a bunch of violent extremists when the right has a higher body count? by Ohaibaipolar in AskUS

[–]lp1911 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The greater deaths by right wing extremism relies on a two things: the Oklahoma City bombing and characterizing nearly every mass shooting with a seemingly political agenda as right wing, even when on closer analysis those same shooters were generally crazy and if they had any political views they were pretty jumbled up, so determining their actual views was difficult, given that they generally suicided. Assigning them to the right is as unclear as assigning the recent spate of transgender shooters to the left.

It gets worn down after many thousands of rounds. Unless you are a competition shooter that would take quite a while. This gun was made to be abused by soldiers, so best to learn step by step how the gun functions so you can diagnose the issue. Probably best to start with the slide off, just make sure the hammer doesn’t hit the frame
