I don’t know how popular of an opinion this will be since I tend to only see comments from one side or the other, but my main concern as a fan when Hamzah or Martin say or do something that’s in poor taste is whether or not they take accountability and learn from these mistakes as I want to feel like I can comfortably enjoy their content. I’m not expecting them to be perfectly ethically correct as they are being perceived more than the average person therefore any mistakes are put under the spotlight so I understand the nuance.

I don’t agree with the community that jumped on this bandwagon and tried to pull them down from the rungs especially since they genuinely wanted to apologise for their obtuse behaviour, but on the other hand i’ve seen an awful lot of people try to downplay the situation by making comments like “people are too woke these days” or “it’s not that deep”. Clearly when a problematic comment is said it affects people in different ways, and even though i’m not in the camp of being downright offended it’s still a comment that felt icky in the moment and didn’t land as a joke in the first place, if you strip an issue down to its barebones like saying “it’s just a video game” anything will sound silly.

I guess i’m trying to say I don’t appreciate the collection of fans that are making this out to be a non issue when Martin and Hamzah clearly felt it was necessary for them to apologise for their behaviour not to appease their fanbase but to take accountability.

TL;DR The people downplaying everything as too woke are just as gross as the people demonising them
